Pretty sure you can side with a faction at anytime. You have to talk to the faction rep and then buy this piece you have to wear. Whenever you do something, instead of getting Vangard/Crucible rep, you will get rep for that faction instead. If you don't want to earn if for them anymore, you can just take the piece off and earn it as normal. There is also that FWC faction that is over there by where you buy the sparrow and jump ships.

Man I am still trying to get to Vanguard level 1

I am working on level 2 with the Crucible though.

I have been trying to decide lately if I should work on Vanguard or just join another faction and go with them for now.

Here is a link to a guide discussing and breaking down the armor and weapons for each faction by class. Since I am a Warlock looks like I am rolling Dead Orbit or FWC. FWC doesn't have an Auto Rifle from the looks of it, so Dead Orbit might just be the winner in this one though.

Also. some other stuff I read about today and did not know. Figured I would share it in case someone else didn't know either.

 As soon as you hit level 15 with one of your characters in Destiny, the second subclass unlocks for ALL of them. So if you get to 15 with your Hunter and then start a brand new Titan the next day, you can equip the Titan’s second subclass right off the bat from the inventory screen.
Let’s say it again, just to be completely clear: The first character of yours to reach level 15 unlocks the second subclasses for all of your other characters, whether or not you rolled them already.

 Say you find an Encrypted Engram for a primary weapon at level 5, but you stash it in the Vault and promptly forget about it until you’re at level 15. If you go and get it identified then, you’ll find that it has stats appropriate to your current level. There’s something to be said for holding off on ID’ing anything prior to level 20 and just stashing it all in the Vault. It’ll be like Christmas (or whichever gift-giving holiday you celebrate) once you hit the endgame!

Might end up taking it another direction though so I can have my Super and Melee skills on a reduced cooldown:

 
When you pick a faction, you must decide which two armor attributes you want to focus on.

Intellect:  reduces the cooldown time of your Super

Discipline:  reduces the cooldown time of your grenade

Strength:  reduces the cooldown time of your melee special ability

• Dead Orbit: DIS/STR (Melee and Grenades)
• Future War Cult: INT/DIS (Grenades and Super)
• New Monarchy: INT/STR (Super and Melee)

Choosing which factions you want to work with is a simple combination of which abilities you use most and which faction interests you more. Other details such as weapon appearance/patterns and emblems could also be considered. There’s also a question of gun choice:

• Dead Orbit: Offers no pulse rifles, 1 Legendary of each other archetype
• FWC: Offers no auto rifles, 1 Legendary of each other archetype
• New Monarchy: Offers no pulse rifles, 1 Legendary of each other archetype

idk i just googled destiny factions and the main three showed up then this..the eyes of osiris and 7 seraphs

The Osiris faction is Destiny has its name based off the Egyptian god of death and the afterlife. Little is known about this faction or its purpose in Destiny.
