The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

A lot of people care. It's useful information to help people avoid investing in Consoles that will lose developer support down the line. It also serves as a balance to some of the delusional nonsense people spout in this thread.

Numbers like consoles sold don't matter unless you have stock with the company... I had both systems last gen, and knew exactly which one I was gonna go with (ps4). I don't think there are any more on the fence buyers at this point... Just folks who are waiting for more games

doesn't hurt to post the info when it comes. i feel like if both consoles weren't selling well that the idea of making/having a homeconsole would be dying even quicker in the day we live in where apps and handhelds are becoming more and more popular

Exactly unless you got Sony or MS stock you reap no benefits of consoles sold or who is winning the battle. And as as someone who purchased both consoles at launch, they've yet to impress with the software which is all that matters of should to most; the big developers will always be there for both, too much money at stake not to be.

I enjoy seeing numbers, but who is winning doesn't matter to me. To be honest I wish it was closer.

I really like seeing Vita numbers though... for such an under-the-radar handheld, it still sells well. Sad to see the AAA support lacking.

Seriously, they're fun to look and they DO matter; the more units you sell, the more developer support you receive, the more sales and deals, longer lifespan, more money funneled into 1st party and 2nd party studios, more exclusive games. I don't get where the butthurt stems from? Perhaps it's harder for trolls to troll?

Besides, these are some historic numbers; PS4 is doing what the PS2 did in it's generation, possibly even worse.

I think WiiU doing so poorly is only helping X1 and PS4.

X1 when not compared to PS4 is selling very well itself.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 / 28 AUG 2014
PAX 2014: FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD: FAST, VIOLENT, AND MATURE
Redefining what a Final Fantasy game can be.

BY MARTY SLIVAFrom the 20-minutes of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD gameplay I saw at PAX Prime 2014, it seems like Square-Enix is redefining what a Final Fantasy game can be. Obviously those fortunate enough to have played the PSP game in Japanese (it never got officially translated or released overseas) know that Type-0 shakes things up, but FF fans that haven’t played it are in for a treat with this Xbox One and PlayStation 4 HD-version.

Full disclosure, I played a super small amount of an imported copy of Type-0 back in 2011. I really dug what was there mechanically, but I just couldn’t leap over the language barrier. However, a bunch of Final Fantasy fans whom I trust fully and who can actually speak Japanese told me that Type-0 was incredible and right up my alley. Turns out, they were probably right.

Much of the core Final Fantasy iconography is scattered throughout Type-0. Spells and items have their traditional names, a cute little Moogle popped up every so often and gave your party advice, and a giant Ifrit was spotted wrecking fools in a crypt. That past sentence has pretty much appeared in every Final Fantasy game over the past 25 years, so there’s no surprise there.

But everything else, though, is a completely different story. While I was chatting with the game’s director Hajime Tabata, he kept on circling back to the word mature. And honestly, that’s what Type-0 seems to be.

The maturity starts right at the ground floor. The story revolves around a pair of warring nations, each of which commands a very specific and very powerful crystal. But instead of focusing on either side’s heroes and champions, Type-0 instead shines its spotlight on a class of 14 young cadets. None of them are the game’s main character; all of them are the game’s main character. Tabata described the form of storytelling more akin to a documentary than something like a superhero comic, which is a far departure from the Lightning-centric XIII trilogy.

Each of the 14 cadets brings their own distinct flavor to battles. One used playing cards as projectile attacks, one was packing the whole suite of high-level magic spells, and another was an incredible fast and agile swordsman. Tabata told me that there's a character who only uses a flute, which seems to be the worst possible thing to ever bring into war. All 14 characters go with you on missions, and if all 14 die in combat, it’s game over. But while all 14 are there, you only manage a party of three at any given moment. You’re able to swap between while of the trio you’re directly controlling at any given moment, which leads me to my next point: Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is ridiculously fast.

Sure, Lightning Returns brought real-time action to the FF series, but the speed at which Type-0’s battles occur is insane. I was watching the game’s director play through a series of fights, and I kept being surprised by how action-oriented everything was. It felt more like DmC or Bayonetta than a traditional Final Fantasy game, and I say that in the best possible way. But within that tremendous speed was an obvious emphasis on strategy. He had to continually swap between his party to combat the situation at hand.

A group of enemies up above the cadets were raining down gunfire. He used his mage to erect a gigantic transparent wall that helped shield his party. He then swapped over to the card-thrower, and dispatched the enemies from behind cover. But as soon as that was finished, a group of monsters busted through to the courtyard, at which point he had to swap back to his heavy and engage them face-to-face. T,All of this occurred in just over 10 seconds. The fact that this dynamic existed so fluidly with just three of the 14 characters got me immediately excited for the possibilities and experimentation that Type-0 will offer, and honestly, the speed of the game seems to be something that will ease player’s into the action of Final Fantasy XV.

While talking with Tabata, I brought up a lot of the questions we had immediately following Type-0 HD’s stealth announcement back in June at E3, first and foremost, why isn’t it coming to Vita. His answer was a bit vague, but he kept circling around to the idea of his excitement of finally being able to play through the portable game on the big screen, on new hardware, and the fact that it’ll now be able to get out to a much wider audience.

Tabata also assured me that Type-0 HD will be a full retail game, and while he couldn’t comment on when we’ll be able to play it, he mentioned that it’s currently about 80% done. From the demo I saw, it looked good and ran super smoothly, but don't expect the kind of visuals we saw at the XV demo back at E3 2013. It's still definitely built upon the foundations of a game from 2011. But honestly, that's not a big deal for me considering how interesting the world seems, and how deep the combat options go.

Obviously die-hard FF fans are counting the days until Square gives us another look at Final Fantasy XV, but Type-0 HD seems like something that will make the wait more-than bearable. Its story, approach to characters, and the speed of the action all immediately helped the game sink its hooks into me. I'm looking forward to seeing if all of those people who told me I'd love it were right.

Bruh, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find a vita in my area :smh:. I went to five different stores today and struck out at all of them. A guy working at GameStop told me that no store in the ENTIRE San Diego area has one new. He said the last time he got a shipment in was 1 1/2 months ago :x

Might just have to bite the bullet and pick up the bundle from amazon for $246 SMH

Nice, I didn't know this. They weren't price matching amazon back when I worked there

Imma do you something even better they also price match b and h photo and they have the elites for 92. Boom just saved you another 20 something plus no shipping. Have at it kind sir.

Thanks bro. I would definitely look into this if I wasn't so lazy, but since I am I'm just gonna keep my original order . Thanks for the info though, still repped regardless

People Really Want Beards in Destiny, Says Bungie

View media item 1155753
Out of all the feedback Bungie received from the Destiny beta, the most surprising is how many people want beards as a customization option, with Jonty Barnes, Director of Production, telling Kotaku:

Here’s a funny one for you – this was a surprise – beards. I am not kidding you. The amount of requests for beards – and this isn’t just people, this is cultures as well that find them very important.

At one point during development, Bungie did prototype beards, but at that time, “it wasn’t a priority.” With all the people asking for them though, Barnes says it’s something they should be thinking about in a serious way, and people on the team are actively talking about how much it would take to implement beards.

Barnes added:

But that’s like wow, really? This is the big topic that people are talking about coming out of the beta? For the graphics team – hell yeah! They are all on it. They want beards. They want to be able to give that. That’s super-fun. If that’s the biggest concern for the graphics team: great!

Summing it up, Barnes said he doesn’t know when beards might appear in the game, “but I’m pretty sure by the end of time there will be plenty of beards in Destiny.”

Would you be happy if Bungie brought beards to Destiny post-launch?
Okay, which one of yall requested this :nerd:

User Stats Reveal Battlefield 4 Now More Popular on PS4 Than PC
View media item 1155755
Even if the last few Battlefield games saw console releases, the franchise itself has been known as a “PC” game” ever since its inception. However, if recent data is to be taken at value, it seems a change on the series’ player behavior is already happening.

According to P-Stats Network (via BF4 Central), a site that tracks Battlefield 4 player numbers across all platforms, the PlayStation 4 version of the shooter is now the most popular out of all five platforms the game’s on (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC). You can check the graph below to see how the PC version was at launch the platform with the most active players, but has since been eclipsed by the PS4 version.

BF4PS4_thumb-555x217.png

Given now-gen console versions of Battlefield can, for the first time, have 64-players in one match — which was previously a PC-only feature, that could have been the tipping point for Battlefield players to migrate from PC to the PS4. Add in the fact that BF4′s PS4 and Xbox One visuals aren’t that too far off from its PC counterpart, well, this info is not as surprising as some people think.

Will this continue with the franchise’ next entry, Battlefield Hardline, when it launches early next year? Your guess is as good as mine at this point. Are you surprised that the PS4 version of BF4 has managed to overtake the PC version or should we expect these happening to most multiplayer games moving forward?
Interesting. I doubt 64 players is the real reason, but cool stat nonetheless.

I wonder what PC fanboys of BF4 think about this...

Grand Theft Auto V Coming to PS4 in November, Retailer Claims
View media item 1155757
It looks like Grand Theft Auto V will be driving onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November.

According to a recent Twitter post by GAME’s Croydon store, GTA V will hit now-gen consoles on November 1, just in time for the holiday season.

1st November for #GTAV who’s excited? I know we are!!!

— GAME Croydon (@GAMECroydon) August 28, 2014

Rockstar has yet to comment on the release date, but the Saturday release date seems a bit odd. However, GAME’s Croydon store has insisted that “that is the date we have on our calendar!”

Just to double check, PlayStation Lifestyle will be reaching out to Rockstar for a confirmation on this release date, so hold tight!

If GTA V is indeed coming out on PS4 in November, will you be picking up a copy? Or will you be getting one of the other big titles coming out this November?
Who's still checking for this game? Or was TLOU the only re-release your copping?

Finally got a larger vita mem card. Downloading all the psMINUS games and sale games since FFXHD came out and took over my old card. Started Guacamelee, great gameplay, was not expecting this game to be this good. I'm excited to start all these "new" games. Vita is such a sleeper tho.

I'm so ******* sick and tired of this crap :smh: these characters had the damn nerve to attack MS for their DRM policies but little did anyone know they have their own. If quite sure I've never had this problem with my Xbox One and its extremely annoying that I now (finally) figured out what the issue is (have to make this PS4 my primary in the PSN settings menu) but I cannot even do that because PSN is once again down for scheduled "maintenance". Yes I'm mad

I did say this before but maybe you missed it.

You can also make your PS4 the primary device on the SEN website.

Login and then go to the devices tab.

I think numbers do matter.

Before the current gen released last year, the media was projecting their demise talking about Mobile and Tablet games taking over, the industry is dying etc but look how the PS4 is proving them wrong. Good numbers means developers especially the Japanese ones won't ignore consoles either.

Me personally, I think it's interesting to see consumer behavior in responses to what the console manufacturers are putting out in terms of hardware and software.

X1 when not compared to PS4 is selling very well itself.

I dunno, if it's selling this well now, it should do better since everything has been pushed to 2015. Just found out Deep Down has joined the 2015 club as well. With Bloodborne, The Witcher, Batman, Battlefield all early next year, I think it'll keep it's momentum.

The Xbone isn't doing so hot either. As much as I don't trust VGchartz numbers, it's got the right idea of how the Xbone is doing in Europe. It's doing decently in the UK and US but it's so bad elsewhere that it's got competition from the Wii-U after Mario Kart dropped.

I've been missing GTA like crazy. I can't wait for the remaster

Also the beta is delayed to 2015 :x

Looking even better. More variety in locations and spells.
Good to see the game outdoors. I thought it'll be dungeons only. Really shows of the lighting.

4p co-op is good to see too.
