The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

New PS4 owner here.

What games is everyone playing?

I was able to get NBA 2K15, FIFA 15, and Destiny...

I know Modern Warfare comes out in about a week, any other games I should check for? Mostly into sports but also like shooters. Not really into RPG / action.

Major PS4 System Software Update v2.0 Available Tomorrow

Here’s a recap of some top features you can expect with Masamune in list form:

 • Share Play: PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game — even when they don’t own a copy of it. PlayStation Plus membership is required for certain Share Play features.

 • YouTube: Upload your gameplay highlights directly from PS4 to YouTube by clicking the “SHARE” button on DualShock 4. In addition, a YouTube app for PS4 will be available to download from the PlayStation Store.

 • Themes & Colors: Personalize your home screen background with select themes and colors. As a big thank-you to the PlayStation Nation, we want to kick-start your dynamic theme options by giving away a theme for two of the biggest titles gamers will be playing on PlayStation 4 this fall; Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Both themes will be available for download on Tuesday.

 • Live Broadcasting Enhancements: Search filters, archived broadcast support and more have been added to Live from PlayStation

 • Content Area & Library: Find and access your content quicker with a redesigned Content Area and improved filter and sort functions for the PS4 Library.

 • USB Music Player*: Insert USB memory with music in your PS4 and start playing your favorite tunes in the background.

 • What’s New: To make the activity feed more relevant and timely for you, What’s New will add Friends of Friends suggestions and Live Broadcasting updates from your friends at the top of your feed.
PS Vita and PS TV Update
Also available tonight is a new system software update (v3.35) for PS Vita and PS TV, which includes 4-player Remote Play support for PS TV, as well as the Live from PlayStation app, which allows you watch game streams from PS4 on both your PS Vita and PS TV devices. A full features list and instructions for updating PS Vita and PS TV can be found here after the update goes live.
PS App Update
Lastly, don’t forget to update your PlayStation App on your mobile devices to the latest version. The new 2.0 update will include a redesigned home screen, and a new layout for tablets.

This has been an amazing first year for PS4 so far, with more than 10 million units sold and a robust set of new features already added including SHAREfactory, automatic pre-download, and more. We are pleased to see the great feedback we’ve been getting from fans like you, which helps us to make PS4 the best place to play.

Let us know what you think about these new features and let’s keep the conversation going!

When it's working properly and the in game challenges appears it's so dope. When it's not :smh:

Will there be an option to buy avatars? I know you can just use pics from your phone but I'm curious. Really happy about the music in the background too. It wasn't a neccesity for me but it'll be fun to run some music in the background while playing BF and CoD: AW

You guys think Sony will do a price drop for the PS4 to counter X1? I know if I was an uninformed parent and my child wanted a video game console, I'd go with the one for $350.
1080p Debate Is A "Weird Echo Chamber," Far Cry Dev Says

Alex Hutchinson adds that people don't buy games for resolution alone.
Far Cry 4 creative director Alex Hutchinson is not interested what a game's resolution is--1080p or otherwise--so long as what he's playing is fun and feels new. Fresh and unique experiences sell games, not necessarily 1080p resolution, he says in a new interview with Total Xbox.

"It's certainly not something I care about in a game," Hutchinson says, also confirming that Far Cry 4's target resolution is 1080p across Xbox One and PlayStation 4. "It feels weird to me that people are cool about playing a sort of retro pixel game, and yet the resolution somehow matters. It's like: is it fun, is it interesting, is it new, is it fresh, are there interesting questions?"

Hutchinson went on to say that some people might not even be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 900p in certain circumstances. "I'm just in it for the experience, I'll play a SNES game if it's cool," he said.

He added that creating new gameplay experiences, instead of just boosting graphics, is where he wants to place his focus. "If our thing is 'woo, the same exact thing you had before, at twice the resolution, instead of a new thing'... A new spin or an evolution, I think is much more interesting," he said.

Hutchinson's comments come after Crysis developer Crytek said earlier this month that it's getting increasingly difficult to "wow" people with graphics.

Asked when he thinks gamers will stop caring about a game's visual performance above all else, Hutchinson suggested that, in a way, they already have.

"I think they already have secretly," he said. "Think about how things used to be--it used to be the graphics on the back of a box that sold a game. And even since the Xbox 360 and the PS3, that sort of era, like early 2000, I feel like 99 percent of the time it's gone away."

The topic has resurfaced of late, Hutchinson said, due to the conversation about the relative power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "It's [only brought up] because of the disparity, the idea that one version is being held back. I don't think that has sold consoles for a while now, he said.

Overall, Hutchinson said just because 1080p might make headlines frequently, it doesn't mean it's a topic that's actually a meaningful one for a large percentage of gamers.

"It's the same challenge we had all across the business, where five percent of the audience is online commenting, and 95 percent are just buying them or not buying them," he said. "We create these weird echo chambers for those issues, and sometimes I wonder, I don't think this is real."

Far Cry 4 is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game launches on November 18 across all platforms, and the PS4 version has a special multiplayer perk. The game's release next month could be followed up with a Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon-style spinoff, too, according to previous comments from Hutchinson.

Sony is adding all these new features but the feature where my PS3 friends can see on my PS4 is still missing. Also when will we able to store music files or even have the capability to stream said music while we are playing the PS4.

Shareplay runs at 720p/ 30fps.

Kind of bummer, but it's not shocking. It's. start at least.
