JB is in a unquie position of having a wide and varied consumer base. When I go camp at a shoe release the melting pot of individuals never ceases to amaze me. You have everything from the 15 year old rocking his snap back to the 35 year old waxing poetic about the days past in the sneaker game. You also have almost every race/cultural represented is one form or another. Thus, JB is smart to be eclectic in there colors ways and releases. As the saying goes, you cant please everyone all the time. That being said if a colorway looks good I'll cop. However I'm not a fan of 'bastardizing' retro Js (squadron blues come to mind). Leave the more outlandish color ways to the LBJ,KD, Kobe's ect

Just in general, it's cheaper for them to release older retro color ways.  They just "leak" a few pics online and stamp a release date on it and the hype monsters take over.  This is the exact reason Nike/JB only releases such limited quantities, because they want hype to build and for their product to become a commodity . By having this secondary market value, it makes their future releases just as popular.

If you wanna talk marketing go to you... Ie. people like myself...

People like me are it's biggest marketers.. Unfortunately we are also their biggest suckers cause we don't get paid

I'm not sure what that video is , I'll check it out later. I'm surprised how no one has yet to mention how these retros are being pushed by rappers. Then people on blogs and NT go nuts, yet Nike/JB spends no advertising dollars on a re-issued shoe and the shoe is more successful as a release then when it released as a new model. Genius....

I see, but they're late on that. Also note, a lot of people that are at Adidas started out at Nike, so that move was inevitable. But Nike doesn't explicitly say "hey we gave this rapper a shoe deal". It's unsaid. Look at Wale (Nike) vs. Swizz Beats (Reebok). Wale doesn't have a know deal, but come on, he gets hooked up with stuff months in advance (pine green foams, Spike Lee Knicks cw foams) takes pics, they get posted here and the board goes crazy. I been following rap for a long time and some rappers are all of a sudden sneakerheads (Fab, Bun B, Rick Ross, Wayne etc...). These dudes weren't heavy into kicks like that before. Now you see them with upcoming releases months in advance left and right. Someone tried to tell me that Bun always was. Don't mean to go off a bit but if he was, how come he didn't bust out a hot pair of kicks in the Big Pimpin' video? If memory serves me correct, he had a pair of white AF1 lows. At that point UGK wasn't unknown, but at that point rap was largely localized outside of the NY area (98-99) with the exception of Master P. It was right on the cusp of rap being "de-regionalized" and put on a national scale where they are seen more.

I wouldn't put Bun in that conversation with the rest.

And I think social media has just shown you the interest of a lot of them away from rap.

And Air Force Ones are a classic sneaker and it was a summer video, it fit. To prove you're a sneakerhead you have to wear a hot pair of sneakers all the time?

I'm def not a fan of the colorways and retro+ JB/Nike releasing these days. I like the design of the Lebron X but colors are horrible. It's like the execs reach in a bag of crayons to pick the colorways. Having a big foot makes it worse in terms of trying to understand JB/Nike. They release Joker and Crimson III's above 14 but the 88 Retro III stops at 14?! WTF is that about. I had ZERO interest in a Joker or Crimson but would have, or attempted to cop the 88 Retro. Kicks have always been an interest of mine which I will continue to pursue but the way shoe culture is now, smh. Can't stop won't stop, but it feels like companies want me to quit...

No, but the way I look at it, if I know I'm going to get more exposure that I was getting before in this video (from Bun's perspective) I'm going to wear something hot. I'm by no means saying he had to, but c'mon you know how rappers have always gotten down. Maybe he was into shoes like he says he was back then. I'm not saying he wasn't, I just would like to see proof is all. Dudes that have always been into kicks it's well documented that they have been. I just find it real convenient that some rappers are now saying they are "sneakerheads". Just seems suspect to me to just add to the hype, and I like Bun B .

Squatch, I'm about to give up man. It's starting not to be worth it anymore lol

Well Bun actually lives it, goes to Sneaker Cons and is more involved in the culture. He doesn't need to do that, so I don't think his authenticity should be questioned. It doesn't help his career.

Someone like Fab or Jim Jones just wear what they like or what matches. Which represents most people.

People up here make too big of a deal about celebs wearing sneakers.

I can't say I agree, but def can't say I blame you bruh. Many releases now aren't worth it! LOL Joker and Crimson III's left a sour taste since they didn't run the sizes on the 88 III's. I'm like damn these hyphy, if that's a word, *** colors get size runs but a classic is treated as a LS or QS. Found a pair of wearable DS OG Penny Air FLight 1's recently for a buck. Could you imagine if that was ANY DS Jordan shoe from 95?

Wearing 'heat' helps your rap career as much as it helps your b-ball game. Rap has always embraced what's hot in the streets but those companies have rarely embraced rap. Adidias did it to increase exposure and make a buck. Companies now doing the same to increase the bottom line. "Dis is a bidness!" LOL

bright, neon colors have been "in" for a few years now . . .
Which Retro+ colorways of the Jordan signature line were released in neon colors the past few years? Meaning II-XIV, because the I doesn't count, imo.

Agreed. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention all along. Yeah, I know he goes to sneaker cons and whatnot. All I was trying to show was that you see celebs more and more screaming sneakerhead when we know damn well they aren't. Nike knows this. Just like your last statement says people here make a big deal of it. They watch this board, know who people on here follow. Give said celebrity shoes to be seen in. Boom. Shoe blows out in the store. They know what they're doing. We, NT ARE their marketing department . Their marketing scheme was so good originally, they could afford to get lazy with it and make money without spending additional dollars in advertising. But I ain't falling for it. I see their game :smh:.

Squatch, those recent color 3's are def a slap in the face, but face it, Nike/JB mostly caters to kids who have basically disposable income. It sucks. They make colors for that demographic, in addition to the OG colors, which includes older and younger demos. That compounds the demand. Add that to people copping muliples to re-sell, hypebeasts etc and you will have those on the outside looking in on some releases. As far as pricing goes, they have no incentive now to reduce prices. Everyting is flying off the shelf. What realy woke me up to that were the black suede X's. Utter trash :smh:.

Yeah but that Crimson color was bordeline pink. But I will say that I was in class looking at some shoes and a much younger female said, " Iwant to buy my son some Jordans but all they have is those red and black shoes. I showed her the newer colorways and she went ballistic, LOL. But as some cat in the XX8 thread was saying about class and JB being the premier brand of basketball shoe. Where is the balnce of class with evolution. Those original retro+ colorways were classy and subtle. I think it would be simplier and show more class just to offer an ID option.

I think JB is doing exactly what they should be doing.  They are bringing back enough of the original colorways to keep the older generation satisfied and also tapping into what's trendy.  Right now, the bright distracting florescent colors are in.  It's all over the place.  That's what people(mostly younger) want right now.   JB has to tap into that market.  Before long, the fad will fade and we'll start to see less of the bold colors and more subtle colors again.  Just as we'll be ready to lose the skinny jeans and prefer a fitted cap over a snap-back.  These trends are just a merry-go-round cycling through.  I remember all of these things being popular when i was a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's.

Most of us older heads 25+ are OG snobs, I would love for JB to just re-release all the OG colorways of my childhood but we arent the only consumer. The younger generation brings in alot of JB/Nikes revenue and they demand bright flashy "look at me now" colorways. I love Nike/JB marketing scheme as a company because as stated earlier they are in a unique spot of being able to cater to older heads with the OG colorways, and newer sneakers heads just getting into the culture & at the same time push technology limits with sneakers like Flyknits & their Flywire technology. Nothing has really changed with Nikes philosphy since the 90's, they are in the forefront of all sneaker companies. Nike does it 1st & all others follow.

Honestly, the retro+ colorways are either a real hit or miss.

You have successful executions, like: Laney V's, Cool Grey IV's, "Pacific" VII's, etc...

But then you have bad executions, like: "Joker" III's, Stealth X's, Orion VII's, etc...

Overall, I like how JB is trying to cater to a new market of consumers, but I wish that they would stay more true to the original colorways.

This.
I think its good that JB is releasing both, og and new colorways for the air jordan retros.
But they should keep the details of the og colorways true not altering them.
About the xx8, i dont see them being a moderate success but actually a big surprise hit despite the critics were quite bad before the release.

Yep, look at the colorways that come in the Lebron, Kobe and KD.

JB is also competing and trying to gain that consumer.
