Let's be real, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is Kanye's best album.

I honestly don't get it either, I mean I know music varies by opinion but I have no clue how any one can rate this album a classic. Album was completely wack and wayyyy overproduced with the exception of devil in a new dress and gorgeous.

I agree with you man. I don't get the "classic" talk with this album at all. It had very little replay value for me.

No.

Joint was hyped beyond belief and TO ME, it didn't live up to expectations. For something to be deemed "classic," (to me) it needs to have replay value. It doesn't. As a matter of fact, I think this was his 4th best album behind LR, CD, and Graduation. Not for nothing, his G.O.O.D. Friday efforts were 10x better.

You can look at all the commercialized "classic" albums over the years...It was Written, 36 Chambers, Ready To Die, etc...how does MBDTF hold up to those? I can put on ANY of those albums and enjoy them just as much as when I head them the first time.

MBDTF is just another example of people overhyping an album. if you want to hear quality rap albums from 2010, listen to Distant Relatives and How I got Over.

His best album in my opinion

Don't care if everyone loves it or hates it. This is easily my favorite album by him. Graduation would be #2.

A lot of people don't like it because of how many songs had been released early. The only song I had heard before the release date was "Power" so it was all new and fresh for me :smokin

Album was trash and bars were below average what makes this classic the production ?
roll.gif
how can an album be classic with wack lyrics dudes throw around classic too loosely
i was gonna say gorgeous
ghostwritten
but then theres this^

definitely overpoduced tho. i'd like to know how much he spent on it

WRONG.

LR is Ye's magnum opus. The pinnacle of his musical creativity. Everything after LR doesn't even come close.

I prefer MBDTF to the other albums, but I gravitate towards songs like runaway and devil in a new dress.

His other albums are really upbeat, which is cool but I prefer my music to have a dark twist to it,

If you get past the lyrics and whatever other reason everyone hates on it and enjoy it for it being good music... then it's a great album.

You guys really don't like Dark Fantasy? Gorgeous? Power? All Of The Lights? So Appalled? Monster? Devin in a New Dress? Hell Of a Life? It might not be the best hip hop album, but as far as music is concerned it's a great album. All those songs are great in my opinon. Runaway, Blame Game, and Lost in The World are pretty good songs too. I don't get all the hate for this album... :rolleyes

Why would I want to get past the lyrics on a hip hop album? I could go cop a Daft Punk album if I wanted to hear some crazy beats

The way I always say it, Kanye is my favorite artist.. he isn't my favorite rapper nor would I rate him in even top 10. But from a musical standpoint, his catalog is better than anyone else's in the game. For example, MF DOOM is above and beyond a better rapper than Kanye, but on most days, I'd rather listen to a Kanye album than an MF DOOM album. But to each his own.

right, I feel you. But if you can rate any single part of an album as trash, then how can it be anywhere near classic. Kanye's lyrics arent always tops, but he got by just fine on CD and LR. He just lost himself somewhere between there and here.

So if he's your favorite artist, and 90% of what he's doing is rapping, and the rap lyrics are trash then........

:nerd:

Big Sean tainted MBDTF by saying 'Kat Stacks' in his verse..

How dare he say her name on a Kanye West album?

Big Sean wasn't even featured on the album.... this doesn't make sense. I know you are referring to his verse on "See Me Now" but that wasn't on the album....

That's kinda how I see Kanye Too. So I agree with all of this.

You know what's funny to me? I remember when Kanye released a short film that went along with MBDTW. It was a bunch of nonsensical crap that a lot of his fans deemed "art" to the highest level. Dudes almost looking TOO hard to find symbolism which equates to his "genius." It's laughable.

I really think we're at the point (with Kanye), where if he released a 4 minute song on iTunes of him farting in the studio, people would say he's on some next level stuff.

No doubt champ.  I mean, I got no problem with folks liking or having Kanye as their favorite rapper/artist, but as usual when it comes to Kanye some of the statements by his fans are just flat out ridiculous.  I'm surprised somebody hasn't mentioned how much "passion" he has for his music.  As if he's the only artist in the game currently, not just rap either that has "passion" for their music.  These dudes are so gassed by anything he does it's funny and sad at that same time.

My bad for finding MBDTF and Kanye's catalog in general very enjoyable. My bad for being able to listen to most of his albums almost all the way through without skipping many tracks. I really enjoyed WTT as well. I can't say the same for Jay-Z's catalog as a whole even... ya Jay is a MUCH better rapper than Kanye, not even a contest... but half of his albums are filled with unlistenable filler tracks. His catalog is kinda meh....

In my opinion, yes, Yeezy's catalog is better than most musically. Does a lot of it have to with the production he uses? Probably. Doesn't make it any less enjoyable for me to listen to. How many of you who are hating hard on Kanye saying Take Care was a great album? Aside from a few tracks, that album is pure garbage.

It's kind of like how people praise the hell out of "Life Is Good" to me that album wasn't that great. Yes, it was a good album. But the replay value on it is pretty poor IMO. *Puts on flame suit* I don't think I ever played Life Is Good all the way through, and couldn't tell you the last time I played a track off it. This is coming from someone who said Nas won the battle vs Jay.

The beautiful thing about music is it is subjective, what I like you might not like, and vice versa.

Late Registration is definitely his best work but I still play MBDTF from start to finish.

They're actually the only two Kanye single albums I have on my iPhone.

I can't really rate them but I know that Late Registration>>>>>>CD, Graduation, 808's & MBDTF
