Kobe Bryant Appreciation Thread

That guy that trained the Olympic team said he's the hardest worker he's ever worked with.
That was from a post on reddit, and he offered no verification or proof when asked for it.

That doesn't mean Kobe doesn't work hard, I don't know who denies that.

Uh no it doesn't. Just because Kobe is better than Ray Allen, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett or anyone else that's been around 15+ years doesn't mean they aren't making the same sacrifices and a degree of dedication.

Kobe's skill level and talent emphasizes his work ethic more than his work ethic emphasizes his talent.

You guys have taken this Kobe is the hardest worker angle to the point it's a slap in the face to other athletes.

You don't train with them. You don't eat with them. Stop with this nonsense.
Where in the box score do they record "work ethic", I must have missed it.
Kobe Bryant is the hardest worker in the game.  By far..the hardest and most motivated player.  He's one of those players that doesn't take his talent for granted and continuously gotten better throughout his years.  What kind of player do you see at the age of 34 still shining like he is, and still a top 5 NBA player.  He prepares like no other player; his passion, bums comparing his work ethic to Chauncey Billups or any other player  continues to drive him.  Wasn't he compared to Vince, AI, and TMAC and outshined them all?

Lol @ Big J 33 trying to be funny, get out of here clown.

I'm not a Lakers fan, but I have a ton of respect for Kobe Bryant. That facebook rant he left was golden.

He could be the hardest worker for all I know but this Kobe work ethic/toughness angle has morphed into another monster where he lives on another planet and has 48 hours in his day and not 24. Like it's not fathomable anyone could also put forth the necessary dedication.

Tim Duncan drops 15lbs at age 35 to reinvent himself, you hear nothing. Ray Allen is still putting in hours each day at 37. Al Horford comes back weeks earlier from a torn pec to play in the playoffs and nobody is calling him the toughest SOB on earth. The list goes on. No singular athlete at this level is so far ahead of his peers in this regard and it's insulting to insinuate so.

As a BASKETBALL player and not a 'warrior' Kobe IS leaps and bound above anyone who's been around as long as he has. Work ethic plays a part, a big one...& it does for everyone in the result of their success or eventual downfall. Have others lacked? Obviously. Have other pushed themselves to exhaustion as well? This should be obvious as well. Kurt Thomas just played on a BROKEN FOOT, that's kind of tough. Of course Kurt Thomas can't jump over a phone book or run a 40 time in under 6 secs. Ability matters.

Not everyone has Kobe Bryant's game. That's what has kept him one step ahead.

6-9 months |I

Really hate to see him go down like that, especially with all the fight he was putting in to make this last playoff push, along with all the injuries.

That FB post was amazing though... Its stuff like that that doesn't make me doubt that he'll come back & still be a dominant player, even with such a serious injury like this.

In the NFL you have players like Terrell Owens, Adrian Peterson, RG who got Injured and healed quickly and was back on the field. Owens and Peterson hit Rehab hard, but the doctors where more impressed with how their bodies naturally healed. Kobe can out work Owens and Peterson in rehab, but if his foot doesn't heal right it doesn't matter.

can we just leave this as the appreciation thread and not who can out work who in the rehab department?

As it stands right now in terms of his overall body of work.

1,239 games
31,617 points
6,575 rebounds
5,887 assists
1,828 steals
1,637 3's
416 30 point games
120 40 point games
24 50 point games
169 double doubles
19 triple doubles
10 time All NBA (possibly 11 this year)
15 time All Star (every year of his career but his rookie, and the lockout 99 season)
9 time All NBA Defense (a stretch)
5 titles
2 FMPV's
1 MVP (and one stolen from him)

Career 45/33/83 shooter.

As of now, 25.5, 5.3 and 4.8 per game which includes his first 2 years on the bench.

In his 15 years as a starter, he averages out to 27.4 pts, 5.7 reb, and 5.1 assists per game.

In those 15 years starting, he's been in 2 lockouts, and missed various games either thru injury, suspension, or rest. 141 total. If he had played those games averaged out, his numbers would look like this

33,721
7,004
6,316

So overall, his number flesh out fairly close but still clearly are skewed by playing 150 games as a teenager without much playing time.

His playoff totals will have to wait another year before they can be raised. :smh:

In his 17th season, 15th as a starter, he averaged 27.3, 5.6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. At age 34. 24-25 year olds struggle to put those numbers up for a full season, this guy did it after playing in 1,450+ games overall with playoffs, preseason, Olympics, and countless practices not included.

This year was one of his 3-4 best seasons overall.

Laker leader in games, points, 3's, ft's, fg's, fga's, 3pta's fta's, steals, minutes, 3rd in assists, 3rd in rebounds, and a ton of other stuff. His playoff numbers lead in everything except rebounds of course, and 2nd in assists. (of course)

It's a shame that some people are celebrating a serious injury to a player. It's pathetic. :smh: It's unfortunate that some of us will learn to appreciate him as a player when he's gone.

Go suck it. Kobe is one of the last real ballers left. He stuck with the same team his whole career through up and downs. He showed everybody else how its supposed to be done

Kobe Bryant once took a dip in shark-infested waters, because he’s Kobe Bryant (Photo)

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-b...took-dip-shark-infested-waters-235110117.html

Kobe Bryant has played through broken fingers, and a severe and painful knee condition that resulted in him having to undergo fluid draining procedures in-between playoff games. His final two points of the 2012-13 season, following a seven-game run that saw him average 45 minutes per game, came at the free throw line, directly after he badly tore his Achilles tendon. He’s a tough dude.
Possibly a crazy dude, too. Because he sometimes puts himself in a position to where he could be swimming with sharks. And not in the metaphorical, Hollywood-sense. In the, “giant boat and shark-infested waters of the Pacific ocean”-sense.
Daniel Buerge of Laker Nation was kind enough to find this photo that Nike rep Heidi Burgett tweeted out on Thursday. After the jump, you’ll see a large picture of Bryant, pre-injury, as taken and explained by Nike’s Eric Avar:

Here’s a larger version of the photo:

(Courtesy Twitter.com/heidiburgett)
Daniel Buerge has the text from the photo’s caption:
“Avar witnessed Kobe Bryant’s alpha male personality firsthand on a deep sea fishing trip about 60 miles from Newport, California. “There are sharks, whales, dolphins all around, and he’s like, ‘If I jump, will you jump?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, we just saw sharks.’ He says, ‘Come on.’ No sooner do I say okay, he takes off his shirt and jumps. I literally grab my camera, and got this shot just in time.”
In Kobe’s defense, the whales and dolphins may not be aggressive enough to attack. He’s just playing the percentages, with this one. That’s what you do when you have Kobe Bryant-sized confidence.
And cojones. Get well soon, Kobester.
