What was your starting salary after college?

graduated in december with a BS in Political Science. no pun intended.

was planning to go to law school but more and more moving away from it.

BA in physical education, health, recreation administration

didnt get a job in my field got hired by delta airlines started off as a seasonal employee making 11/hr
then got moved up to a ready reserve employee
waiting on them to start hiring us for full time thing is the old people that are working dont wanna retire and thats half the reason i didnt go into my field and at delta a guy works on the ramp and last year made over 115,000 dollars :smokin and he refuses to retire which kinda makes it hard on me to get full time :smh:
dont hate them for it cuz it would be hard on them if they did retire but ahh oh well ill be full time in the next few weeks since it will be a year for me in may and it takes a year for them to make you full time.

Business Econ Major...first job was as an assistant for the director at the gas and electric company in Baltimore, made $38 K...i bounced around since then with my salary going up and down...idk what i want to do and still looking for a job i would enjoy at least a lil bit :\ :frown:

i'll steer clear of this conversation, ha.

talking about and revealing salaries is just going to frustrate me (because either I'll be mad i'm not making enough or mad that other people make more than me).

im tryna save up and start my own something soon

or work up the ladder. i aint stoppin till i make 120k. its gonna take a few years but im willing.

40k to basically browse NT 9-5 isnt really that bad tho. gets too reptitive, however

Accounting

$45k on paper but with all the non salary perks/savings its probably closer to $50k

If I got overtime I'd be caked tho :smh:

I'm an RN and got an associates degree here in the bay area... 80K.  That's only 4 days a week.  If I worked 5 days a week at "full time" it's at least 100K.  But to other nurses in the bay that's nothing.  A bunch of other RN's get paid more then I do and a lot of OT so they make $$$$.  But it's really hard work and most def not for everybody.  But then again like I said, I'm in the Bay Area so cost of living is crazy expensive here.  It's not like I'm rich or anything, I just have enough to be comfortable.  Plus student loans
ohwell.gif

BA in criminal justice. After the academy, easily 50k. And after a year, 80k with overtime.

I have a BS in Criminal Justice. Finding respectable work with this degree is :smh:

What do you do?

What are you doing where you can browse NT the whole week?

Outta high school, I went into management training at pepsico for 55k salary. After certification a year later, I got a 15% raise and became bonus eligible, bumping me into the mid-70's.

I majored in marketing, but most of the marketing offers we're between 30-45k so I took a position in sales management for the cash. And I live in Seattle, so I'm pretty comfortable with what I make/my lifestyle.

I'm thinking of going in sales as opposed to marketting as well. You have to know the right people to get a decent start in marketing. It's pretty hard right now.

Yeah I'm in MA. Thinking about taking the exam this April. Also applied to be a probation officer in 3 different regions.
Take it. I'm taking it even tho its $150 but you get a shot at the Troopers and any city in the state. State jobs are where the bank is. I've applied in CT, MA, RI, NH and if you're out east consider ME.  Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire have academies every 6 months.  Plus the training is top notch if you want to move up to the feds. You just better be willing to move tho.

Probation is effed up in MA, at least at the state level. Apparently they got a lot of criticism cuz they were running the good ol boy system when hiring up to about 5 years ago. Plus the pay isn't great like at the federal level.  I'm not trying to discourage you, but I'm just saying how it is.

PM me if you have any questions tho.

Those that did internship, did you find them at your college career conventions?

No. Go out and find the internships your self with the specific employer in mind. I've been on both sides of the table: intern and employing interns. I'd say 95% of the career conventions/fairs I've attended were terrible

Threads like this are why I continue to put up with the crap my company puts me through.

I wanna leave but I can't think of a single job that wilk pay me as much or give me the same benefits.

I feel like I'm trapped in the drug game and can't get out.

Yeah a handful of people got fired due to the hiring practices within the probation dept. Hopefully things have changed for this hiring period. I have experience in the juvenile justice system and the probation job I applied for is in the juvenile courts so I hope my experience + degree gives me a leg up. Almost got the federal probation job that opened up last spring. 200+ applicants for 2 positions though :smh:

Im opposite id rather live at home for a year or two than struggle. Making car payments on top of student loans is a pain in the a** but im slowly saving once I hit my plateo ill be out finding a new job going to shoot for aove 50k so I can live somewhat comfortable when the time comes. Btw I work in Detroit so making 40k here equates to 55k in a larger city, looking at moving Cali by summer friend is helping me land a gig within his company where id make 60k..
different strokes ... I guess I out more value in the fact of saying "my place"...

You're definitely not doing it wrong by any stretch though...

Those are dream jobs. Don't stress it tho. I heard that they were given offers but have been on standby because of all the budget cuts. They're ready to go but there's no money to train them. That's the entire federal system tho. Everyone is hiring but nobody is hiring.

After I knock this internship out in the summer, I'll be on track for a job with 1 of the big 4 accounting firms as an auditor.

Offer will be somewhere around 50k.

If I get an offer after the upcoming summer I'll probably be somewhere around 100-120k. Investment banking analyst in NYC...so 100-120k probably won't be as baller as it sounds.

right outta college, my first professional job, i made $40,000 + OT.

Thought I was ballin because most of the offers I was originally getting were $24,000-$28,000.
