I never drew the comparison of the Ian Connor crowd to Travis. That's more like those Awful Records dudes like Father and Carti etc, imo.

C'mon bro I know he don't rap

I meant in a Tumblr/internet sense, he exists in that same realm. Travis, ASAP, Ian, etc all got their image/aesthetic and some of their popularity straight from the web pages of Tumblr. From the way they dress right down to that corny pose Travis does in all his pics

I was at SXSW and Travis was literally the only rapper performing at the Tumblr showcase 

I'm not saying that's a bad thing tho, hell a good portion of Kanye's worshippers are on Tumblr i.e. the Been Trill/HBA/Pyrex/ crowd.

I'm an artist and I have some homies/fam in music and fashion so I've came to know that crowd pretty well, there's a lot of overlap with those 3 things on there. That crowd, from what I've seen, actually break bread to support their artists tho. ASAP did 100k back to back first weeks and I think it caught a lot of people by surprise his first time around because they didn't really see him as being that "popular" in the "mainstream". That's the primary reason Wiz hired Ian to style him, he wanted to tap into that market and re-brand himself.

I don't think he's doing ASAP numbers but I do think people will be surprised with Travis's sales.

As far as Awful Records, I guess you could say that because of Carti but for the most part they're just regular Downtown/East ATL hipsters.

Edit : I would say they're different in the sense that they're not really making songs name dropping high fashion designer brands like Travis and ASAP but I agree they do fall into that Tumblr counterculture lane.

Personally Travis aint Tumblr-dependent to me in the same vein as ASAP/Ian. B4 tumblr was even popping like that Trav already met Kanye and was signed, but he fits the aesthetic of that so he took advantage of that.
