Why isn't there any parity in women's college hoops?

I don't get it....you can pretty much pencil in the same teams year in and year out for the top seeds in the tourney, and its almost a guarantee that a #1 will make the championship (I think). On top of it all, I saw on Sports Center that UConn beat some team by 75. It's crazy. That shouldn't happen. Top seeds getting home games, etc. When was the last major upset of Baylor, Uconn, Tennessee, etc. that anyone can remember? How is this supposed to grow the sport if you're getting the same thing each and every year?

Call me crazy, but honestly parity would make women's college basketball worse. It was at it's peak of popularity when UConn was on that crazy winning streak, at least from what I saw. If something like that didn't happen what would have caused the casual fan to even watch it? As sad as it is to say people won't watch simply because it's women playing. No one cares that it's actually a skilled fundamentally sound game, there has to be a gimmick, and the insane lack of parity is said gimmick.
 
Don't think the talent pool in the women's high school ranks is as deep as say the men's game. Sp the top end talent usually graduates to those programs you usually see at the top, your UConns, Tennessees, Stanfords, UNDs, Baylors, Texas A&Ms, LSUs.

They also have good coaching.

Good point about UConn and their win streak.

I just think the system is extremely flawed. I would love to see the stats on 2 v 15 upsets, etc.
 
because women don't leave college early to go pro. star players are in school for 4 years. so a coach has 4 years with said players and additional years around her to recruit talent. its that simple.

imagine if coach Cal didn't have to worry about 1 and dones. anthony davis would be a junior playing alongside this monster class they have coming in next season

This has nothing to do with it.


As somebody already stated...the top tier talent pool in Women's CBB is very slim compared to Mens. In the Mens game there is great HS talent all around the country so no select few teams can just stockpile all the great players. On the women's side there are very few elite women's HS BBall players. Outside of those top players, all the other recruits are pretty much mediocre. So the top schools like UCONN, Tennessee, etc can just pluck those few elite players every year and remain head and shoulders above every one else.

I disagree. i mean Maya moore was a star from day 1 at Uconn. If you can get one fo those. you're gold for 4 years. The point on elite females is true. Once you hit the top tier teams (Uconn, Tenn, Stanford, etc) you can chose which players you have. Uconn has MCD's all aericans riding the bench. If it was the men's game, they'd transfer immediately.
 
I agree with OP but it's the only sport between men and womens March Madness to have a 16 defeat a 1
 
Simple, the best players go to the same handful of schools. And athleticism advantages in the women's game is HARD to overcome.

the difference between the number 1 ranked team and the 10th ranked team in college bball ant much

but in womens ball number 1 ranked team play the 10th ranked team and its a 20 point win

What about home-court advantage in the NCAA tourney? Whatever miniscule shot of an upset a 15/16 seed would have is entirely out the window.
 
As much as we know it never will be, I feel the same way and would definitely like for there to be. Id definitely be more interested in it.

I'm pretty sure they do that for attendance purposes. If they held the earlier round games on neutral courts, they (NCAA) would embarrass themselves with how few people show up. :lol:

Just looked up at the TV and saw UCONN is going for their 10th Nat'l championship under Geno...

:wow: INSANE accomplishment

but again, to me, it speaks volumes about the disparity of competition in women's hoops.
 
There's only big coaches at ND , UConn , Ohio State , Kentucky, Stanford , Maryland, UNC , South Carolina , Baylor and Texas A &M . Geno is a step ahead

Duke gets 2 Mcdonald All Americans every year , but Coach P can't coach for sh*t.

Was just having this convo last week, I agree it's not really changing much.

They don't need to have 64 teams in their tournament - that would be a start.

Side note, Geno is 295-14 since 2007......and been to 13 final fours since 2000 :lol:

That's ******* INSANE!!!! But it speaks volumes about the landscape of NCAA women's basketball...

I know Geno spoke out about a couple of issues with men's hoops last week, however, I wonder if he's made any comments about the lack of parity in women's hoops?
 
Another title win, and now Breanna Stewart returns and three more 5-star recruits come in including the #1 player in the country :lol:
