Great coach...and why would parity matter (to him) if you're getting the best of the best recruits and dominating the competition?

Nothing will change.
it's starts with the top talents. uconn scoops them all up, not their fault. but there are the exceptions when the best ladies do go somewhere else.
tenn-uconn was a really good rivalry for awhile
post #37 of 80
What was uconn's record against baylor when griner was there? Wish there were more players like her at other schools to make games interesting.

It's just UCONN.

Tennessee and Duke used to be great 10 years ago, now ND , South Carolina and Baylor have passed them

Funny thing is this was supposed to be a down year for uconn. Geno is an all time great coach no matter how you cut it. I do not believe he has had the number 1 player since Stewart. He picks and chooses wisely who he recruits. All of his players have to be coachable. There is a player that is on south Carolina that was a recent number 1 and he did not want her as she wouldn't fit in his system.

They almost lost in the beginning of the season.

91 in a row is ridiculous. That shouldn't be happening in a sport. Yeah geno and the school are far superior but they shouldn't be 91 games superior.

Candance Parker explained it.

She said the drop off from the BEst HS players and the Next Tier Below that is a significant dropoff. Great than that on the men's side.

Men: The difference between A Top 10 HS players and a Top 50 isn't THAT significant.
Women: The difference between a Top 10 HS and a Top 50 player is HUGE

So that is why the best teams stay great

Interesting point, did not really know that.

The range between the very top womens teams and the next tier has always been wide, I would have thought by now it would have started to close a bit. UConn just played #20 South Florida - the score was 102-37. laugh.gif

They're 138-1 since March 23, 2013
They've yet to lose a single conference game since entering the AAC (58-0)

Women's hoop, is so unathletic in comparison to the Mens game.. There's a guaranteed blowout game each and everyday there's a women's game, especially in College.

The truth is, it is hard to see this team losing again for the foreseeable future. They are the top team in the country this year, and next year’s team will include 6-6 Duke transfer Azura Stevens and Megan Walker, the No. 1 recruit in America. ESPN commentator Kara Lawson was being dead serious when she said during Monday night’s broadcast that the consecutive winning streak could reach 200 games. Their last defeat came on Nov. 17, 2014 when Stanford pulled out an 88-86 win in overtime at Maples Pavilion. That win ended a 47-game winning UConn winning streak.

The Real number one reason for the lack of parity, and i'm sure it's been mentioned in here,

is that the pool is just so much smaller in men than in women.

There's not a lot of women that grow up playing basketball, relative to men. So a team like UConn can monopolize that pool because there isn't that many elite players to begin with.

With Men, there's sooooo many kids that grow up hooping, that it's inevitable that everyone won't be able to play for Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc.

With women, it isn't like this. The experience for women growing up playing basketball is drastically different and varies tremendously.

A primitive fake example would be:

Say like there's only 25 good basketball schools but with men, there's like 6000 good players. Inevitably, the talent pool is greater as opposed to women, where there's only like 25 really good players for 400 schools.

I was just reading that the girl the Mystics traded for said she'd be in favor of 9 foot rims.

Why do you think it's a bad idea? I think it would spark a lot more interest in the game if there were more players who could play above the rim.

It wouldn't be real basketball. Having a bunch of women dunking on small rims would look ridiculous

Well for a few reasons.

One, the lack of support for women's basketball isn't because they 'can't dunk' :lol the product being lesser than men's basketball is much deeper than dunks.

Two, it would do more harm than good. Can you imagine the backlash and reaction from WNBA players dunking in the air on 9 foot rims? It would be ridiculous and turn the WNBA and women's hoops into a circus. Midas whale let them play with trampolines too. The WNBA and women's hoops as a whole is vying for legitimacy, and playing on 9 foot rims completely goes against that.

Few people are already watching as it is. I dunno if that many people would care with lower rims.
