You do realize that you can apply this logic to EVERY official thread we have right? RIGHT? The Jewerly thread takes away from topics about specific chains, the movie thread takes away from threads about specific movies, the _________ thread takes away from discussions about _________.

HORRIBLE logic.

da jewelry thread is a discussion on jewelry where you're going to get critical and detailed information on all things jewelry, you can make you're own thread

about "yo imma buy some earrings" and you can either wait till someone who know's what they're talking about responds or you can post in da jewelry thread and get

help quicker since everyone there shares a common interest...and da jewelry thread would survive if you moved it to sneaker showcase,  TAN would wither

away da SECOND you removed it from general.

da TAN thread's "fuel" is information thats being siphoned off from da rest of general. official threads run on their own enthusiasm that was generated by da posters

on a particular subject.

The front page goes 50 topics deep now and the OLDEST one was replied to less than two hours ago.  The front page used to contain less than HALF that, and at peak we'd see maybe 6 pages of topics per day.  I can go 5 pages back and find replies that aren't even 24 hours old.  

Posting activity in this forum is UP from Yuku.  If it looks stagnant to you, it's because you're seeing more posts per page and thus the effects of "shuffling" aren't as obvious.  

A topic that would've slid to page 3 on the old board is now at the bottom of page 1, not because people are posting less, but because the front page holds more than twice as many threads.  

One topic full of junk isn't changing that.  Would you rather have those users on NikeTalk and reading your favorite threads or on Twitter posting random comments about nothing?  

If it were actually harming the forum in some way, I could understand the argument - but there's absolutely zero proof of this.  It's 100% opinion held by a relatively small number of users.  I don't consider that terribly compelling - especially when the thread's most vocal opponents simply enjoy arguing for its own sake.  

If you like arguing... argue.  I don't care.  Just realize that we're not going to regulate the community based on a silly debate being waged out of sheer boredom.  

That's effort that you'd be better off devoting to developing SUPERIOR discussion threads and it's time that I'd rather spend improving the site.  How about this:  stop wasting my time with this nonsense and I'll spend some of it working to produce a second run of NT fitted caps.

contribute to da rest of NT and not be confined to one thread?

2. to say that there's no proof of this is misleading, there's a reason you instituted prohibitive content on that thread "no shoes, no sports, no music" because

there IS a danger in turning that one thread into its only island in NT where instead of going to a respective section and get da news they rather have it all

splattered in one thread. i do thank you for that though.

Ninja, you still arguing this? Is this some sort of filibuster? You've said your piece, much respect. However, Meth has provided some fine points and TAN is not going anywhere.

Think of it like a spam filter in itself. All the things we would find stupid and pointless go to TAN where they enjoy it. It's out of the real discussions, and everyone, except for you, is happy.

That rule is instituted in ALL THREADS. You don't post about Jordan's in the Nike boards, or it gets moved. You don't talk about Penny 5s in the Nike Retro, or it gets moved. You don't talk about your painted Jordan's in general, or it gets moved to sneaker art.

The thread is about misc. topics. Not the thread about everything.

1.  All threads are junk by somebody's standards.  We offer a variety of posts for a reason.  If you don't like one, find or create another that suits you.

2.  I cracked down on the content of the thread to maintain the standards of organization that make NikeTalk useful and (somewhat) easy to navigate.  Users want to easily locate content of interest.  Burying everything in one 2 million page thread doesn't make sense.  If it's just a glorified chatroom for people to say "good morning", "I like turtles", and "good night", then who the hell cares?  It's a lot more difficult to make the claim that such a post is actually detracting from participation in discussions that you or I might find interesting.  That sort of small talk can occur in a thousand different places.  It's no more of a distraction than somebody's other social feeds.  

It meets a need that SOME users have.  It's not like we've got Albert Einstein in there posting cat memes because he's become a prisoner to TAN and is no longer capable of contributing to society.  I need a better argument than "I don't like it."  

3.  I'd like to think that moving the damned site off of Yuku took precedence.  We've had bigger issues to worry about.  Remember, too, that the lead time on something like this is over 3 months.  Even if all of the arrangements were made tomorrow, you still wouldn't see the end result until summer.  We're in the "exploratory" stage right now, but the good news is that all of the principals involved in the last run have expressed interest.  The fewer problems we have to worry about, the more time we can spend making it happen.

It rly takes away from general cause majority of posts are nonsense.N not really thread worthy. But it does provide lulz.
I can see how the fast pace of the thread can scare ppl off.

No, we're not.  They haven't even been designed yet.

We're just getting the band back together.  

And even if we were taking pre-orders, do you really think we'd use this thread to do it?  I'll share more details if and when the project advances.  My point, here, is that our team has an awful lot to deal with as it is.  The last thing any of us should want is to have petty little distractions waste staff time and energy that could go into things like fitted caps, contests, charitable fundraisers, and other community-building activities.  

The more capable our fellow members are of setting and maintaining a high standard for themselves and others, the less time any of us will have to spend dealing with petty squabbling.  

If anyone wants to revive the existing NT fitted topics, feel free to provide suggestions for the next run.
