Associate Degree

I have been trying to get a federal job for as long as I can remember any help?

def gotta get up on LinkedIn

Bruh I work at Natonal Guard Bureau 8n the DC area. The military in my building are guardsmen on active duty. They work normal hours and go home. Where are you located and are you willing to move? Talk to your command about title 10 or ados orders. Search usajobs for jobs that require "guard membership".

Where are you located? You should look into ados orders to the National Capital Region. Regular Army guys despise gaurdsmen out here.

The military ion ados orders seem to never leave. We have some thats been here since Katrina. Title 10 folks are trying to get on ADOS since its so cake.

Yo I need to get up with you. The guard recruiters are playing games in returning my calls and I need to do a IST.

Do you have some number I can call to jump start this process?

DM Me.

That's common logic, but Contractor (a skilled one has infinite job security, gets paid more and has flexibility to badge flip (think of yourself as a mercenary married to the dollar and not some lame Fed Agency).

TRUTH.

Your speaking that real . I have recruiters sending me offers every week, I would never be worried about losing my job once I get my full clearance.
One company was offering 150K I couldn't believe it lol. He read my profile wrong he thought I had completed my Masters which would allow me to be hired as a SE III. I don't even have 2 years of full time experience, the money is out here.

Just like you said if your making 130K+ and can't survive a month with no job your doing something wrong. There is a possibility that you lose your job as a contractor, but if you are a highly valuable person it takes no time to pick up a new job here in the DMV.

Are you guys seeing these offers all based on LinkedIn?

Yes and Indeed.

LinkedIn is like that if yours looks professional.

Busy dealing with American Airlines all week and the last 24 hours. Police, $5000, a rental car I've had for 3 weeks now smh.....so if you want to help me help you and get a faster response, tweet me & American Air.

@nabdelilah on Twitter or someone please make a thread here. I've got them on Twitter, Facebook and email responding with the basic "sorry" blah blah blah for profiling me and my "Arab" name, taking my drivers license and challenging me to come across the counter to get it back. Sheeeeeeeeeesh. I'm 6'4 230 and 5 years ago would have thrown the Indian POS through a window.

:nerd:

gonna need make a profile on LinkedIn

Yeah everyone should have a linkedin profile. Its an online resume and real opportunities can come from recruiters finding your profile.

I don't have a picture or anything on my profile just the companies I have worked with and the job title, and my educational background.

VP of Service/Delivery of my last company was in the Guard....high up too. John Epperly. Contact him and tell him I sent you.

So you must know John Epperly or something. He was always going to get awards and such, he helped my old girl's brother with an issue at the NG. He got multiple other NG folks jobs in the area too.

Name a company/agency and I can provide a better review than Glassdoor and let you know the real deal on if you would want to work there.....IMO obviously :D

Just got a VP of Contracts offer via LinkedIn in NY........and I am not even looking clearly.
Best thing about LinkedIn , we aren't even looking , but we are constantly receiving offers so we know whats out there.

I have it real sweet where I am now not sure if I want to ever leave.

- 5% raises every year

- 3.5-4% bonuses every year

- Will be a SE III by my 5th year of working full time (Promotion to SE II coming in feb which will be 2 years working full time)

- Manager is cool as hell

- Make my own schedule leave and come as I please just have to work 40 hours

- Wear anything to work (jeans, t shirt, and sneakers my usual)

- Work 10mins from BWI

I'm always taking trips I leave Thursday after work come back Monday morning and go straight to work.

(I leave my car in the garage at work so no parking fee just uber to BWI $15, super clutch )

I clearly must be doing something wrong in DC to not be getting hits with 10 years experience my
field (Environmental Health) plus my degree. I'm guessing it comes down to the field being very non-target rich.
Even though I'm making the switch to programming specifically Javascript, getting a job matching my current salary
is difficult. I see why people rarely make a move to better themselves, these jobs offer terrible pay and lack
advancement.

So many dead-end jobs on LinkedIN, Glassdoor, Craigslist it's insane!

@Osek206  you might not start out as high, but you will advance very quickly. For example max salary for a Software Engineer 1 at my company is 93.5K (min is 53.5K, this big gap is why strong negation skills are key) , so you can only imagine the max for level 2 and level 3.

Wow, that gap is insane. I wasn't given much to negotiate on this current position being that's it's part of a union. I'm just
ready to change jobs/careers for more opportunity and way quicker advancement. Taking a pay cut in DC is not ideal
with the housing/ apartment pricing. My problem currently is just finding the actual jobs in my field that are open until I have
enough skills to switch over to programming. I've kinda given up on the feds (EPA, OSHA) the KSA's are a pain/pointless.

I completely understand, NOBODY wants to take a pay cut around here. Cost of living is too expensive.

Yeah that gap shows you how these companies will get over on the people who are just happy to get an offer and are scared to negotiate.

Avg salary for Software Engineer 1 in the DC area is 65K I don't recommend anyone to take less than that. If you do, 60K should be the absolute lowest.

Yo I need to get up with you. The guard recruiters are playing games in returning my calls and I need to do a IST.

Do you have some number I can call to jump start this process?

I need more information. What state are you trying to leave and what state are your trying to join?

What are you ultimately trying to accomplish? Why are are trying to leave your current state?

Are you moving to the DC area? Did DC tell you they had slots available?
