If You Are Looking for/Interested In Working With The Federal Government...Come In. Positions Availa

Had a dude who used to work with the alphabets start with a private company I was with for a day until his background check came back then he was let go. Odd, but doable.

Definitely possible....

I have a "record" and before the Expungement....had one of the worst on paper. And an Arab name in the DC Metro area.

Still had offers from LoC, DHS, WHS.

Same boat, expunged long ago, but always weary when government positions require finger print or DoJ background checks. Haven't had issues with private companies as their background checks aren't as intrusive. So I've kind of dismissed the public sector for that reason, might start looking into it again.

All depends on a lot of variables:

-Type of crime
-Pattern of behavior
-Convictions/Charges
-Quantity/Quality
-OPM/Contracted Personnel Security Investigator
-Agency
-Clearance (Public Trust vs Top Secret Poly W/SCI Background)

Worth a shot...you'd be surprised some of the higher GS folks and what they have going on in their personal lives. Huge debt, DUI after DUI, Child Porn, Assaults, Domestic stuff.....

He most likely never reported his transgressions to OPM/Agency and/or wasn't due for a reinvestigation for some time.

This. They are looking for you to tell the truth just as much (if not more) than they are about you actually doing something.
Got my secret clearance last week.... Trying to get top secret next lets go!!!
Congrats. You on your way

About gov't people with cases as stuff...

I actually worked in a BRAC building that the agencies hadn't moved into yet. My team was the internal backbone for all the agencies to tie into for everything (inter-networking between agencies, external routing to their off-sites and internet in general, VOIP, DNS resolution, etc.)

We were keeping our servers that we hadn't installed in racks in a random office closet. Once agencies were starting to move in, the office personnel came in and started posting the labels on offices for the "Big Wigs" and conferences rooms and stuff. We were near where the Records Management section ended up being, and the closet where we were storing our servers ended up being labeled with a sign that read...."Child Pornography Records/Cases"

Like I figured they had cases where they would have to investigate some of their own and outsiders as well, but to have an entire records closet just for that?!

got a federal air marshal invite to schedule for the their battery test in my email this morning....anybody else get one?

the MOS (job) i have in the army just passed a mandated rule that you have to have a secret clearance to maintain your position.

I have been in the military 10 years without one lol. As far as the TSC you I have no idea.

It is really up to your company on that one. They definitely have to have the work to put you on, but your company can definitely elevate your clearance if they want to.

I originally got my clearance that way. They wanted to bid on some new work at that level so they put me in for it.

I was lucky though. I got my secret as an intern in college and my TS within the first year of working FT once I graduated. Then when I moved on, I found a job that was at the SCI level but they were hiring at the TS level, as long as you were SCI eligible to get read on and went from there.

JS was right about getting it as early as you can though. Dudes used to always say get it before you get married, have kids, buy a house and all that stuff. It is just more mess to report on those things when you fill them out.

Looks like I need to go after a clearance after I knock this PMP out. I'm rocking with the public trust but doing well for my age. Always trying to go higher tho.

Just hired a guy on my team that had a Public Trust. Well...he got sent a contingent offer. Contingent on him getting the secret at least to start. We were waiting for him to get the interim to bring him in, but we checked and it said that his investigation was closed, so we are guessing/hoping, that means that they actually finished his full secret.

This is about 2 months in the works for those wondering about their timelines about now.

For my current line of work I don't really need a clearance. I'll likely have to go to another company and get them to pay for it. I want they pay bump that comes with having it and a PMP, but I have the perfect work-life balance at the moment. Guess I can wait for my company to get some work that needs a clearance and I'll hop on that.

A secret isn't gonna bring a big jump, if one at all they are so common . The bump usually comes at TS/SCI or TS/SCI w poly .

Like Wright I got my Secret while interning my sophmore year, still waiting on this dam TS/SCI .

2 months is considered quick too these days.

Clearances in the NCR/DC Metro area are ridiculous slow...moved around a lot? Minority? Family living overseas? Legal troubles? Debt? Documented Drug "Experimentation"? As long as you can explain everything in painful excruciating detail.....you will be okay.

Essentially you can do some "wild pyscho" s***, just not all the time, no pattern of reckless behavior and be able to speak to it...like why you did it.

I'll post a PM I just sent/responded with to another member:

Just the verbiage is off a little....

Companies wouldn't "hire" Government Contractors.

Government Contractor means: a contracted employee to a specific Government Agency

Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, Boeing, Raytheon, SACI, Leidos etc. are examples of Large Government Contractors.

Small Government Contractors vary from 1 person companies to 50 person companies to ### etc.

You can work for Northrop and not be a Government Contracted Employee working on an Agency/Client site. Think someone doing payroll, IT support, internal Contract Management, etc.

Hope this helps some.

Usually wherever there is heavy Military/Defense presence...Government Contracting Companies loom nearby.

Yea the secret is really just the stepping stone you should use to try and find work that is willing to hire someone already cleared but they are willing elevate you. Especially if you are around the DMV area (just checked and you are). There is a ton of cleared work around here. Just depends on where you are trying to work and what you want to do at the job.

Hell yea man. When I checked on his status and they closed, I was like...ummmmmm.....so is this a good thing or bad? I was like no way in hell it finished that quick and is going to be a positive thing for me.

Before my last contract ended, I had filled out my re-investigation paperwork like 9 months prior since my 5 years was coming up. I wasn't about to be off a contract with my clearance status up in the air. Luckily me and the PM were cool and she talked to the corporate security people and they got to work on it. I got notice about 6 weeks before my contract ended (another company won) that my clearance came back and I was good for another 5 years. New company came in playing hard ball on numbers with everyone (everyone but like 3-5 people).

Called up my previous employer to find out that my old team leads and managers were senior level management, directors, and PMs. They slid me an offer with a raise to come back and rolled out

.

I watched a dude take forever with his clearance. He had like 6 brothers/sisters and he was trying to find all of their addresses and stuff

Another guy was from the Ivory Coast and his parents still lived there and he knew his brother was state-side but bounced around, so he had to track him down for a legit addresses to document.

I believe he also had to turn in his non-US passport and get rid of his dual citizenship. His took a while to come through too.
