The Graphic Design Thread UPDATE: 1st post filled with info. 2nd with NTer's portfolios.

Anyone willing to help me with a small and quick mock up for $5 paypal. I just got a MacBook Pro and don't have time to do it. Its a simple Shirt mock up delete and add words. Should be done in less then 10 mins. I'm in a rush and have my birthday dinner.

rafael.torres.jr@gmail.com for any takers or a better idea of what is needed.

I'm not digging the way the new bamboo and new intuos look. Like a huge touch pad.

If you're really into photoshop, image manipulation, digital painting, etc., I'd start at the intuos pro.

What up NT creatives!

Advertising agency 72andSunny's in house ad school, 72U, is looking for candidates for their summer class.

Check it out here: 72U

Anyone have any good ways to build up a portfolio? I graduated and got a non-creative job. Now looking to try to get in a more creative position somewhere but finding my portfolio is seriously lacking and holding me back.

Make stuff.

If you're looking to get a design job, make things. Smart things.

If you want to do print start with movie posters series. Figure out if there's an interesting story to tell through the visuals.

If you're into UI/UX/Icons, make icons, logos, etc.

If you're into branding/packaging, look at a product you like, then think if there's a better, smarter, more economical way to present the product.

If you're into environmental design, start with your local mall and figure out how you're going to translate the message of directing people around.

If you're into motion, begin with an intonation piece, or a motion invite to an event.

Basically, just make work.

The hardest thing is to become self-motivated to do work. Especially after you're done with your day job.

Good luck.

This has definetly been my main issue, glad to hear that it's not just me. Seeing all these job openings around me though I need to just suck it up and get on it.

It really is hard. Especially when you have a a day job.

Start by scheduling time into your day. An hour or two dedicated to thinking, concepting, drawing, planning, etc.

As you get into your work, you'll start getting yourself into a better work rhythm.

Thanks for the responses, will need to just schedule some time between jobs and get to work.

Has there been any discussion about possibly doing any kind of weekly/monthly contest in here? I know they are hard to get setup and keep people involved but could be fun.

Did i follow you back? Usually I do, let me know if im slippin

^

I don't think you did, but it's all good lol

I just feel like I want to do EVERYTHING.

I'm working on a series of posters that pertain to famous philosophers (Hume, Nietzsche, Feuerbach)

I'm trying to learn to code so I can use processing and other tools to create data visualizations

I want to make my gf some large format posters for her birthday, with either screen printing or digital printing

I want to get beck into product design, I dabbled in it for a little but just kinda felt like I wasn't good at it after not trying for very long

I'm planning on creating my own font soon

I want to re-do my website

And I have school assignments and other classes, as well as a job 5 days a week, a gf, a puppy, and I still have to put in time at the gym

Feeling overwhelmed
