The Graphic Design Thread UPDATE: 1st post filled with info. 2nd with NTer's portfolios.

Not sure if this forum or the Apple forum can help, but

Quick Question: Whats the best way to go to get Photoshop for my Macbook Pro? Torrent? Is there a basic out there for free?

No. They had an intern from France last winter, but seeing you're from Australia it might be easier to get an internship with one of our European offices.

Also, I'd look into The Kennedys in the Amsterdam office. It's the cousin to the W+K12 program that I was in—except you get housing and pay. The directors of the program, Alvaro and Judd, are super talented and really awesome. They just opened up the applications for this round.

I think I might apply, actually. Do you know the percentage of applicants that are hired? onetruesoul onetruesoul

Real excited

Got a new job working for this online shopping company doing graphic work. Could possibly get promoted to a higher position if i do good enough

Pay is good too. Compared to my previous jobs (still in college) and itll go up

Guy that hired me said i wouldn't need to look for a job after i graduate so that's another plus

It's all based on if we have new clients, need new hires, etc.

In the Portland office they kept 8 of 12 of the creative interns (art directors/copywriters) and 3 of 3 of the design interns because we got some new business in and needed people.

But worst case scenario, the W+K name on your resumé won't ever hurt you.

As for the Kennedys, since it's only a class of 6, they keep a good amount. But once again, it's all based on the office's needs.

Did some album art for a friend

Sick. Reminds me of the guy that did Blu's album cover. I can't think of his name right now but his style is very similar. Actually, if anyone can come up with his name, that would be greatly appreciated.

That's good to know. I might have to look into it! I just got offered an internship at an ad agency down here! I start on Monday, I can't wait.

Things are looking up for the NT design crew!

Nice man!

Some illustrators aren't too great at design and some designers aren't too great at illustrating. If you can learn to combine both then you will have a leg up on your competition

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. Now for the hard question; do you think my work is strong enough?

Your work is competent and doesn't suck. It's well designed.

But, I can't honestly be the judge for if your work is strong enough because only the studio managers who go through the books know what they need. They might need more motion people than branding designers and vice-versa. The design department here has people that range from illustrators, to photo manipulators, to branding designers—It's all based on what accounts need what kind of designer.

But, to hell with it. Apply. What do you have to lose? If you don't get it, you just continue your hustle as a designer, nothing lost. But, if you don't apply, you'll always wonder "what if?"

If you want, go to LinkedIn and look up the recruiter here (they're not hard to find). Email them. Let them know you're interested in an internship. They like people who are passionate about wanting to be here. They might make sure the managers look at your book when it comes through.

Good luck.

You're exactly right, thanks again. I'm planning on applying for sure, I just needed your opinion so I could get a barometer check for my expectations.

Have a rep good sir.

Can anyone design me a flyer for an upcoming event I have? Pm or email and we can work it out: Theopticool@gmail.com, thanks

Did anyone get back to you? I'm a bit swamped with some projects right now, so I hope you got that worked out.

Anyone have any examples of sales flyers/sales banner/sales ads that they've done?

Sorry, don't have any that are portfolio worthy brosef. Why did you need that example specifically?

Just looking for something general. Something like/better than this. You know something around this idea/concept or whatever. Just a basic sales ad. I've tried searching for tutorials on Google but don't really find much
