this kind of thing irks me to no end

National Association for Fat Acceptance. really?

and then everyone gasps when this guy has the temerity to say what many people are thinking

Why do we continuously allow fat people a pass in society as something we should just 'accept'?

I dont mean a few pounds overweight either, im talking about corpulent, clearly health-threatening weights like the woman in the video is currently at.

I just feel that it is flat-out irresponsible to look at these people who have clearly made the choice to put their health in danger (dont even start with the thyroid argument, that occurs in all of about 1% of the overweight population) and say "hey, you know what? thats ok. good for you! you dont have to change anything!"

I think back to that Joe Rogan podcast where he mentions that no one wants to compete anymore. everyone just wants to be content wallowing in their mediocrity because changing and evolving can be difficult at times.

Honestly im just flabbergasted by the whole situation. Lets discuss

(dont worry ill get back to the Problem Solving thread within the hour)

Agreed with everything you said.

After travelling the world, and visiting 3rd world countries seeing homeless/starving kids this really irked me to no end.

The excuse i hate more then anything is "How do you know they don't have a hormone problem or its genetic?' chances are they probably developed the problem by eating a surplus of unhealthy food and never getting off the couch.

lol...it shouldnt bother you man...such a silly  middle school like thread to me...

fat

black

gay

poor

woman

being named shanequa

if any of those things make u think of a person differently / treat them differently then its YOU with the problem my man...not them
before this post gets quoted by all the holier-than-thou NTers I just want to point out that its human nature to treat people differently based on who they are

whether you realize it or not, we all do it. So spare me that argument.

Yes, this mentality bothers me and it should bother some of you too. its not the person we are examining, its the state of mind.

so spare me THAT argument as well.

America will never change to not accept fat people when America is the ones helping people become fat and feel okay with it.

Companies make clothes to make people look skinner. Foods are labeled and marketed as "diet" or "low fat" or "sugar free" to trick people into thinking they're doing better when they really aren't.

There would have to be drastic movements to change that whole state of mind. I myself am disgusted by it as well but realize that it's something that will never change so I can't even let it bother me.

Maybe 2 of those things can be fixed by the individual.

Being grossly overweight is a sign of laziness to me. It shows that you appearance doesn't matter to you as well as your health. It's comparable with not washing or allowing your self to wear tattered rags or look unkempt....

OP, uncle Ruslan says "you're a loser."

This has little to do with caring about someone's health and more to do with stroking your ego, by engaging in a "fat bashing" orgy. That's what this thread will turn into. That's what it always turns into. It's frat boy antics; I've seen it many times on here, and elsewhere, and it's disgusting. You're a bully, or a wannabe bully, and I thoroughly dislike people like you...:smh:

Instead of trying to induce and/or effect change via shaming and humiliation, why not try a more tactful approach? Respect and consideration goes a long way. If you can accept people as they are, then they will alternatively be open to accepting you and your message of a, supposedly, healthier lifestyle--if that's in fact what this is really about.

Honestly yes. Not because they are big, but because they continue to do the things that got them there. And I get it's an addiction, but cigarette smokers repulse me too.

What irks me the most is when I see obese parents taking their obese kids to fast food joints. You'd think they wouldn't want their kids to have the same problems and go through the same things they do, yet they fatten them up and kill them slowly. Parents like that should have their kids taken away them by CPS.

Fam you can't compare obesity to gender or race, that is so silly.

Club is just easier and more tasteful to be fat, that's the reality of it, eventually when is too late they realize the physical torment they've put their bodies through and all the **** they've missed out in life....in my opinion ***** em, they want to die a painful slow death, while downing a #1 from McDonald's, let them...I'll continue to use them as motivation as to what I would never want to be and go grab my grilled chicken and veggies...being slim/in shape, working out, eating good is so rewarding, these people have no clue what they are missin out on....tomabout acceptance society...lulz

This is about the mentality that people have that it's OK to be heavily obese. Not about poking fun at fat people or anything of the sorts. Club wants people to discuss why America feels it is ok to be content with obesity and not stand up and do something about it.

The amount of fat people in well-off nations like the United States of America and the United Kingdom is absolutely repulsive and I'd never let some pea-brained cockamamie "Association" keep me from upchucking my lean chicken breast, vegetables or otherwise healthy meals when I see these gluttons waddling around town with more artery-clogging food in their hands or better yet when they've gotten too fat to support their own mass so they have to ride around on a scooter. :x

I find that hard to believe though.

You don't want to poke fun at individual fat people and yet your thread specifically targets fat people for a "mentality" that is honestly quite pervasive--see smokers, alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. All these populations lead unhealthy lifestyles, AND possess the kind of "unhealthy" mentality I believe you're making reference to. Yet, you chose to bypass all of them and aimed specifically for fat people. Why? Because it's cooler and easier to pick on fat people?

Like I said, frat boy "put-down" orgy. I've seen it before and this is no different. The more dull members won't see this for what it is, but a few others will.

I've said my piece, have at it in this "health" oriented thread of yours...:rolleyes

no, because there aren't associations that say "hey its ok to be a smoker! do you! be happy with who you are!" or "hey, you're an alcoholic and slowly killing yourself? FINE BY US! We'll still accept you as a solid member of society. YOU dont need to change anything at all NOPE!"

but there is for the overweight/obese population

and as for your question of taking a more tactful approach: I feel that discussing an obviously poor mentality in America on a discussion board is as tactful as I can get. its not like im singling individual people out

post a pic of yourself dude, so we can all find a flaw that you have and say we are repulsed by it
