2008 CDP Reflection Thread. What did it really mean? Has JB tarnished its significance?

It's crazy how much of a rip off the whole CDP thing was. I got lucky and was able to cop a lot of singles:

1s- copped and were horrible quality, I still have them but only as beaters
2s- never copped
3s- copped and resold two months before the 2011 version dropped.. Actually made enough to buy a DS 2011 pair.
4s copped and rocked hella times then resold before the 2012 pairs dropped lol
5s- never copped
6s- traded for SB lebrons
7s- copped b-grades and resold for basically what I paid
8s- still have and use as beaters
9s- my current workout shoe but I wish I would've gotten the 2010 pair since I love that colorways
10s- still have only cuz I bought the full pack, have worn less than 10 times n just can't resell.
11s- rocked and resold before the 2012s dropped
12s- still have
13s- resold then passed on the 2013s
14-16 did not cop
17s- copped and resold cuz they hurt like hell to wear

Passed on everything else

Even tho I got a couple pairs left as u can see they are all beaters JB played us with that CDP crap I will never get got like that again

7/16 were probably the best quality out of all of them with the 10/13 not too far behind, ended up keeping only the 7s though

JB most def tarnished it's significance when they dropped all models within a year. The fact that they retroed most of them after they all dropped was a slap in the face. I was so damn mad when they did that. I should have sold all the ones I had right then and there but I hesitated. I agree with some of you saying the 7/16 and 10/13 pack were the best executed. I didn't get the pack but I was able to get the Shadow 10s 2 years after they released, sold them a few months ago though :\ I still want the 13s sooo bad.
I was able to get the 7/16 pack about a year after for retail, but I did experience some fit issues. The 16s were more snug than the 7s, and I ended up giving them away around this time last year. Not to mention they were yellowing badly for no reason when I had them stored properly. The 7s were beautiful but the suede used on the upper were a damn dirt magnet, I had to be careful wearing them cause they were so damn delicate.

The only packs I was able to buy on RD were the 6/17, 8/15, and 11/12. I didn't get all of them though, I skipped the 1/22, 2/21, and the 9/14. Like some have said on here, if you looked hard enough you were able to get the CDPs for way under retail. I was able to get the 3/20 pack for $140 from FNL 5 months after RD. I think the 20 and the 17 were the nicest retro+ colorways. I actually prefer the suede of the CDP 17 to the ugly leather OGs. I used both to play ball overtime and I beat them to the ground, both were comfy imo. The worst one to ball in were the 19s, those were truly terrible!!! They left blisters all over my foot and they felt like bricks on my feet :x I think I threw them on top of a power line or left them outside so a bum could take them

Sadly I don't have most of them anymore. I gave away the 15 and 18 to family in DR, the 16s to one of my homies, and the rest I sold. All I have left is the 5 and a pair of DS Carmines.

i forgot about the whole sizing issue people were having. :smh:

carmines fit great in a 9 but the 17s were too snug

or the cdp 11 fit too small in a 9.5 but the 12s were perfect in a 9.5

pre-yellowed 5s

ashy 17s

i think the best retro+ colorway in the packs was the 18s. that black/red was a nice touch

Traded those 18's for the black/blue 18's

I owned the following packs:
11/12
6/17
10/13

I did own b-grades of the Carmines, Hares, Black/Red 11s, and Shadow 10s

However, I no longer have any of these shoes in these packs..I have reached a point in my collectin career that Jordan Brand holds no weight or value or sentimental value other than the less than 25 pairs of Jordans that I now have in my collection..

I owned 9 of the 11 packs (except 1/22 and 8/15). In my opinion, the 7/16 and the 10/13 is easily the best packs. The 2/21 pack was solid. Here is my breakdown:

1 - Did not get because I hated the 22's.
2 - Solid
3 - Solid
4 - Could have been better, I just did not like the fit.
5 - Yellowed straight from the factory
6 - Yellowed straight from the factory. Other than that, they were very good.
7 - Excellent
8 - One shoe I regret not getting because I already had the 2003's
9 - Very solid
10 - Excellent
11 - Bastura quality
12 - That shoe made the pack for me.
13 - Excellent
14 - Solid
15 - I know the black/red came out the previous year, but I was not feeling this colorway and I love the 15's in general.
16 - Excellent
17 - The pair I had was not "ashy Larry" as some of you proclaimed. But the fit was the worst of all the CDP's (they were extremely snug). With that said, the white/red color way should have been released and it still follows the "Bulls theme."
18 - I may be the minority, but I love this shoe. I always thought that this shoe should have released in 2003. I brought the pack for that shoe.
19 - Solid
20 - Too plain, JB dropped the ball. It looks like they slacked on the execution of that shoe.
21 - Solid
22 - Just horrible. Worst shoe in the pack and of of the 22's period.

I loved the idea of the CDP pack when first announced. I remember vividly the whirlwind that was Air Jordan Fusions and the humble beginnings of the hypebeast. I only owned 1 pack which was the 5/18 pack and my footlocker sold them to me the day before release. I still to this day wear my CDP 5's which are in great condition and IMO look better than this years retro and I balled all in my 18's (want another pair). Reflecting on this idea it was brilliant that JB did this. Minus quality and sizing issues the concept was a great celebration of the history and was the last moments recently where shoes weren't bought just to be resold and midnight releases were still going strong. Even the 11/12 pack wasn't that big of a hassle to come by. Those were the good ol days....then the next year we got the space jams smh. So sad

there were CDP and DMP pack, could anyone point the different? and the background story for each pack, i only knew DMP 11/7

Wow, something worth talking about. Managed to get the vi/xvii, vii/xvi, ix/xiv on release day online. Back then none of the stores my way had these packs in stock so it was online only for me. I even managed to cop the iv/xix pack months later from uptempo air for $250. Now try to get anything from them under retail today! Even managed to get b grade hare vii's at the outlet back in the day. Also acquired the x's and xx's for dirt cheap, which became my work shoes for a year. The quality wasn't the best on a majority of them. Got to check out a lot of them back when finishline actually displayed the shoes before they were available for purchase. Now I can't get an employee to show me a pair before rd anywhere without fear of getting in trouble from their district managers at any store. Ended up selling both vii's I owned, my extra vi/xvii pack, and FINALLY traded that ix/xiv pack which I've been trying to sell or trade for a good year. Can't give away the xix's because they're just crappy. Overall I'm happy with the pairs I still have left in my collection. The vi's were excellent and correct shape, unlike the vi's from last year. The xvi's were on point and who knows when they'll make a xvi retro. The iv's paint job was a joke, but was the CORRECT material I.e. durabuck, not nubuck. The cdp could of been a great release, but overall it was a letdown. I never to this day will buy another pack just to only want one pair.

The first DMP was released in 2006, it consisted of the 11 and the 6. It was done to commemorate Jordan's first championship and his 4th(first one after coming back from retirement).

The other DMPs which released in 2009 was done to commemorate his 60+ point games. The pack came with the shoes he worn, one in the colorway of the opponent he dropped the points against and the other in an "OG" colorway.

Being a big fan of the XVII I was disappointed with what we got. I bought a pair anyway but it doesn't compare to the og's. I wish I would have got my hands on the whole pack though, those carmines are too dope.

They also dropped the ball on the XXs, XVs, XIVs colorways too imo.

Never got the XVIs but they always looked fresh

Sold all my packs when I needed the money a couple yrs ago. The only shoe left from from the packs are the 13s. Still wish I had the Xs

The CDP's or the countdown packs were packs released for the 23rd anniversary of air jordans and the celebration of the air Jordan XX3. It included two pairs of air Jordan who's model numbers equaled the number 23 i.e. 11/12, 3/20, 1/22 etc. DMP packs or defining moments packs are packs that are meant to represent significant moments in Michael Jordan illustrious career. The first DMP pack which was 6/11 pack was meant to signify michael Jordan first shoe for his first 3 peat and his first shoe for his second 3 peat. There have been numerous DMP packs...

dead weight in da CDPs... da XVII's JUST made da cut because although they were ashy larry suede instead of leather, they still

weren't bad enough not to get da whole pack along with da carmine VI's, da aforementioned? pssh i copped da III's, IV's, & V's all single later.

da XXI's & XX's HAD potential to be good money but JB dropped da ball with poor execution of materials...

jordan_countdown_pack_3_ii_xxi_2.jpeg

^^ da sample CDP XXI's were durabuck..i would've copped da XXI/II pack for retail had da material of da XXI's stayed like this

instead of changing into...

ajrcdp19_1blk.JPG

& da XX's should've been these...

air-jordan-20-xx-original-og-stealth-black-stealth-varsity-red-1.jpg

no questions asked, and that III/XX pack would've SMOKED...i remember da jordan III black and cement languishing cuz da crap

XX's they were saddled with was too much to bear..

copy-of-ajxx2blackred.jpg

XXII's could've right da wrongs from their original drop by coming out with durabuck but alas...they didn't.

The 5s creased like paper along with being pre-yellowed like the 6s. My 8s cracked like crazy, 10s began to squeak, XIs were so cheap and uncomfortable, the material on the XVII and XXI was so ashy it wasnt even funny

I don't have any of these problems with my pairs except for the pre-yellowing.

i had the 6s, 7s, 11s, and 12s from the pack. my thoughts on them

6: pretty decent quality but the AIR on the back had a tendency to fall off. also came pre yellowed and got worst fast
7: pretty great overall.
11: worst quality Jordan 11 EVER. total crap inside and out: uncomfortable, 23 peeled off after a few wears, stiff mesh, thin laces, really low patent leather cut, cheap leather on upper. i wouldnt take these even for free
12: pretty good retro overall. only flaw were the eyelets weren't metal but plastic

My point exactly. Even though JB wanted around 180 for XX2, XX1, XIX, & XX most didnt want to pay $155 much for em. On top of that 155 for 1-11  not even 12-15 retroes were going for $155.

Only pack really worth it like others said was 7/16 10/13. I didnt like the snug fit and shape of the XI, but had no problems with the Taxi XII
for this reason I'm sure we're not gonna see xvii and above be retroed 4 a while

Almost forgot

That white stitching on the 14s was the worst

Talk about ruining a classic

Glad they did em right a couple yrs back (2011?)

I felt teh same way of the 14's when I got that pack. They've grown on me now though

The 1's and 22's pack was the worst pack. Definitely not worth 300 :x

They got the colors right but the quality was atrocious, Luckily, I  still had my OGs to compare them to. I had fond memories of them as a great balling shoe so was naturally excited about the retro. I shouldn't have been. It was such a con. They have nothing in common with the OG except the color and shape and even those aren't exactly the same. The red's too dark and the shape's a bit off. But the worst offender is the cheap materials they used. The "metal" lace tips this time round were plastic! Haven't bought any retroes since this experience except the cavs iv. Material is decent on them but they are so uncomfortable I only wore them once.

Going through this thread makes me regret not getting the xvi and xviii but I didn't want the v or vii. Should have got the pack and sold the other two

I only got the 5/18, 6/17, & 7/16 packs. Because I wanted the 5, 6, & 7.
All of mine seemed like good quality... except they seemed to yellow quicker than most. The soles of the 5's and 6's are crazy yellow for being DS!

I ball in mine regularly and they hold up fine. the 14 was good quality imo. it was also retro + so I don't see why you are comparing it to "the OG". Started hooping in them after I heard the last shots were coming back, but then I went MIA and slept hard on a ton of releases for a year or so. still salty as hell lol
