I think its a good thing its sorta safe to wear your kicks now, it shouldn't be I guess.  No one should be robbed of there belongings and cats still get ran for there shoes. I grew up in Detroit in the late 80's and 90's, I remember going swimming and another kid taking my new Grant Hills out of my locker.  Worst feeling ever when I got back to it and they were gone, luckily we caught up with him and got em back.  Peeps should be able to rock what they want without fear.

Dudes been getting robbed for kicks since the 80s.

Most of the dudes on this site wouldn't have been able to rock ANYTHING fly back in the golden era - woulda got snatched right up out of it in broad day on a busy ave.

Sure, who likes to deal with that madness as a grown man, but the removal of that whole element was the gentrification of the culture. And, what happens when things get gentrified? The transplants come in and the existing residents get priced out.

If people were still getting checked for their gear, half these dudes wouldn't even be participating in this hobby.

Making it safe is the most important obstacle one has to clear to make it mainstream.

Again, it's cool that you can rock without getting rolled up on, I guess. But, at the same time, the effects of that change are not completely beneficial to the culture either.
This is on-point, despite my grievance with the thinking that the culture has suffered by becoming more mainstream. I personally like the recent inclusion. I find it hilarious that wealthy Chinese tourists go to FCNY and pick up J's for themselves. Culture evolves and that's cool, but I never forget the culture I was exposed to early on...

To this day I won't wear limited stuff immediately after launch, and I am always looking over my shoulder when wearing certain shoes. Maybe its a holdout from a prior era, but its what I know.

Robbery is a danger for everything, not just shoes. If you're scared to buy shoes in fear of getting robbed, then go live on a farm. People will get robbed for everything including phones and wallets.

In other news went to get the obsidians but the curse of the sz 11 struck me down, i was a few minutes late and they sold the last 11... Hopefully the EU sites will come thru with a disco like they did with the volts

Lakeland is a wasteland, University is my spot and HOH was out of my sz wanted to use my gc and bday joint.. I dont do International

theres a higher chance of being robbed for your shoes than other things.. if youre in the hood.. and they see you looking clean in the kicsk..  they are going to check you rather than someone who may be holding  something nice in their pockets or bookbag unless they see them remove it.. so shoes are like peacocks feathers in the hood..lol

is this a foamposite discussion or a socioeconomic status debate?

Sorry to get in the way of enlightening dialogue like, "Demz crack, fam" or whatever passes for sneaker-related discussion nowadays.

Yes, people should be able to rock what they want without fear. However, if people were able to rock these items the first time around without fear, today's generation wouldn't want to rock them today in the first place.

Desirability created risk in that environment, and all that added to the allure of the item. The whole landscape is what combines to make things icons to the degree that people of subsequent generations who never even experienced any of he original context of the item still lust for it.

If you didn't have to stay on point for your gear, it wasn't hot. And, if you held down a pair of Jordan Vs and a Starter in 1990, a Stadium paper jacket in '92, or a Steep Tech in '95, then you have a love and understanding of these items in a way that nobody getting into these things now can have. People say, "you take this too seriously." Mind you, these are the same people sleeping in the street for Skittles color shoes, but they think that because I get upset about the state of the hobby that I take things too seriously. Of course, we take it seriously. Because it WAS serious - so serious that kids 20 years later are trying to recreate our experiences in their suburban bubbles.

If you're the dude getting robbed for his shoes in the hood then don't go to the hood. Simple solutions to simple problems.

if im going in the hood. i rock my 2k4's.. makes me less of a target.. stunt in some hoods.. you gonna get g-checked.. and i go through hoods where i may not know everyone.. where if you got OOS plates people really gonna question you.. im not afraid to go in most hoods (i wont go in Pork and beans or liberty city unless im with someone who is from there as those spots are just insane for visitors) but i use my common sense.

Nike needs to stop playing around and release the Tian Jin foams here in the USA. I had a few relatives camping the site in China and still couldnt get a pair. It was almost instant OOS. IMO, those are the most detailed foams ive seen to date, barring customized ones.

I agree. The flower on the tongue, the dragon scale eyelets, the pull tabs, all in all pretty dope.
im most impressed with fish scale design on the suede part where the laces are. awesome detail imo. i dont know if thats what u meant by dragon scale eyelets. super dope.
