Just gonna provide a lil bit of background first so I don't get aired out like famb with the similar thread.

18, full time college student, part time job at Finish Line (looking for something full time for the summer).

WAS driving a 2010 Corolla as a grad gift. Pops drove his 2004 Sebring into the ground and was stressing about how he was gonna get around, so I basically just gave him the car since I live in dorms and the shuttle takes me pretty much everywhere I need to go.

Already have the 6k, maintenance, insurance, etc. can all be taken care of with no problems (pops has a very well paying job, just cheap as hell)

Not looking for anything crazy, but not a strict point a to point b whip either. Just looking for something reliable, decent looks, decent interior, etc.

I can wait till I graduate and make my own money before I take beamer and benz suggestions.

Thanks famb

Looking for something in the same price range myself... Was thinking about the early 2000s mustang. Still undecided tho

Not all honda and acuras though. But yeah I heard that about that gen tl ******.
Get a 2003 accord. For around that same price and definitely reliable.

That gen Tl v6 automatic definitely had bad ******s...

I co-sign on the 03 accord I picked up a v6 6spd coupe for $5k 127k on the dash I love it8). The previous gen Civic is also a solid choice, both have aftermarket support as well :smokin

I love my Acura Integra. Wish it was in a garage though for peace of mind. I picked mine up for 2k and put 2k into it to get it running tip top.  You could find a pretty clean one w/ low miles for 6k. I'm a strictly coupe kinda guy though which makes me bias.

Also might be able to swindle your way into a clean Suabaru WRX or Mazda RX8

Man, you should go to your dad and try to get your car back.  You say he has the money, but doesn't want to get his own, seems unfair for

him to take back your gift just because he doesn't want to buy another one...

Instead of spending your whole 6k, you could maybe give him a little towards a new car and get yours back

Nah im cool with letting him keep it. Won't even feel right driving around in a 2010 and him some 00-03. Should be flipped.

Thanks for the other advice fam. Still looking, trying to hopefully catch a gem.

Found a 99 Lexus ES300 with 56K miles for $5995. Previously salvage from hail damage. Id definitely have a good mechanic thoroughly check it before I go but I heard insuring a salvage is hella expensive and a hassle?

So he's taking your car and not giving you anything for it? He should at least spot you with 3-4 Gs and get yourself something nicer.

Nah he put up the 6K but the insurance, maintenance, etc is all on me.

whatever you do, stay away from american cars at that price range. best bet is something japanese, any basic nissan/honda/toyota will suffice. an integra is always a good choice.
