We retained Hill through Bird Rights, so in that sense it is similar..

But Bird Rights has to be 3 years on the same team, or they were traded during a 3 year stint without clearing wavers...

But if Young opts in to $1.2 we'd have Early Bird rights which would only allow us to sign him at 175% of his contract $2.1mil.
Sign him at $2.1 starting the season after the player option ends, correct? And could they theoretically offer him more than $2.1 if they were under the cap?

Nick Young's contract has a player option for next year at 1.2 mil? Huh?

That would put us a little over 11 mil for next year already, kinda makes me think it's a sure thing we stretch Nash out and reduce that back down to 5ish mil total for Nash, Sacre, and possibly Young now.

I hadn't read that Young got a player option, anyone else read that?

It's a 2nd year player option... Good chance he declines it.. The market for him this year was around $3mil.. He signed for less with the Lakers where he will have a bigger role (also the sentimental reasons).. He wants to show his value and get himself back up to $5mil a year..

Hard to see him opting in in 2014.. He's too young (no pun) to waste years in his 20s playing for minimum..

I dunno, gotta think if we land Max player X-Y, and Kobe comes back cheap, maybe Nick wants to stay and be a part of that. At 1.2 tho, I'm fine.

I'm just surprised is all that they gave away 1.2 mil, and like I said, kinda leads me to believe Nash is getting stretched.

Given the following bet, which side would you guys take? If Lebron doesn't come to LA next offseason, Person B pays Person A $750, and if Lebron does come to LA, Person A pays Person B $5,000 (approx. 6.67-1 odds). My buddy wants to make this bet with me with him in favor of Lebron coming.

Yeah, Nash is stretched. His deal was basically 2 years, LA knowing they could pay him 3 per for 3 years after or he can retire completely and get nothing but a buyout.

I think Nash is coming off the books next year along with Kobe and Pau. Especially since Dwight is gone, no one for Nash to stay with at 41 for one season.

I think this is his last year, then they mutually agree to a buyout and he retires, sort of like Kidd did in NY. Kidd had two years left, Nash only one, and if the Lakers tell him they're stretching him anyways, he may as well retire rather than run to a new team.

And we may as well get AT LEAST the 6+ mil back, and maybe get all 9 freed up, at which point the only contract we'd truly have under contract next year is Sacre at less than 1 million dollars. :wow:  :pimp:

Only way I could see Nash stay is if LA doesn't get a good line on Bron/Melo and want to save cash to 2015, then maybe they one year Kobe, Pau, get Nash to persuade Dirk to come (not likely) and then whatever draft pick and let them play an old timers tour all year.

Don't **** it up Kobe

Man you better jump on that quick, get it in writing with video evidence too.

Wish I knew someone who'd put money on Bron coming, that's money in the bank . IMO

If they were under the cap, yes.. But you want to sign Nick Young with cap space?

Yeah, the odds are what make me hesitant. Putting $5000 at risk for only a $750 gain :rolleyes. In the case that Kobe gets injured again or realizes he isn't nearly as effective as before and ACTUALLY retires, thereby boosting Bron's chances of coming, I'd be so screwed.

Bingo. Risk vs reward. It's not worth staking $5,000 to make $750 with so little information.

Lol depending on what other options were available and the price, possibly. I'd bring him off the bench though. I'm late to this thread so I don't know if it was discussed, but I would've kept Metta and had Young coming in off the bench.

C'mon man that's a give away bet, ain't no way in hell Bron coming here idc who gets hurt.

Dude is on top of the world right now and in just 1 season it's gonna crash and burn , then he comes running to the Lakers .

It's not happening , but It's amazing what us fans can dream up and hold onto.

Grantland article about the Lakers' cap space.

You can get a sense of the cap holds & scenarios from it.

They did leave out at least one: the stretch provision on Nash's contract.
that last scenario is not as appealing as most make it. does it really mean that we'd only be able to sign guys to vet deals?

i guess it depends on who wants to jump on the gravy train, that is IF a lebron and/or melo sign here

Deep down I know Trevor wishes things would of worked out diff.

I'm sure if he could go back in time he would of taken that MLE contract offer in a heart beat and stayed a Laker instead of listening to his stupid agent and pursuing more money :smh:

I miss the guy in Purple and Gold :frown:

And also Young's contract. But overall, it did show the idea of the cap holds and the scenario's in play.

Also, why the **** would they use the 30th pick?

Basically it becomes Kobe takes a big pay cut, we get a top 10ish pick, stretch Nash down to 3 mil, then try to land 2 Max deal players. (we all know who we'll chase, but less likely to add them both)

I agree that it would be tough to get Melo and Bron to sign for less again. Bron did it once, I could see him asking Miami to pay him his money, much like Kobe did a few years ago. Miami has no choice but to pay Bron what he wants, no matter what it costs in luxury tax or depth.

LA is going to renounce everyone (maybe not Kobe) and try to work from there. This is why I think they try to flip Pau for any assets they can get, renouncing him does no real good to then try and bring him back, so get what picks you can + expirings, and renounce those people) Iono. We'll see.

But them saying we have no cap space is stupid. And if Kobe really does ask for 31 million, then he's stupid too and he'll enjoy playing for the Knicks next year or Bulls, whoever, etc.

Truth. But we wouldn't have Artest.

No Artest, maybe no Finals appearance or Finals victory.

i dont think the lakers would of beat boston in 2010 with ariza. artest was the perfect guy for that match-up.

Just realized past 3 three years texas has been no good to us

2011 mavs sweep us
2013 spurs sweep us
2013 rockets take Howard

I wonder how ariza felt when we won that second ring after we got rid of him?

I'm sure he regretted leaving. He got paid but it has to suck watching your team win back to back after you leave. This was the perfect spot for him, he hasn't done a damn thing since he left.

Since things have been nice and quiet lately (which I enjoy)... i figure we keep the attention off the non-sense and debate which Kobe will be known as the best Kobe.

#8 and #24.

#8 will always be my favorite all though I know he wasn't exactly the best teammate during those years.

Too many highlights and memories to posts.
Too many moments.
Too many game winners.
Too many dunks.
24 is appreciated of course, but 8 gave me a lifetime of memories that I'll never forget. :nthat:
