How can you tell which Jordans will be collectors and highly sought after?

First off, I would like to apologize if this is the wrong place for this. I am very new (just signed up yesterday) to this board, and this is my first thread. I been looking all over and have realized there are so many shoes I want to buy and add to the collection. From what i see, the prices are pretty high. I don't mind paying for a shoe, but if I could get it when it first comes out, well, that would be even better. I could actually afford to buy a second pair to wear. So how can you tell or how do you know which are going to be collectors?

Start by reading every post in this entire forum.

That'll give you a few clues.

Then you have to filter everything you read and figure out what is useful.

If you're not willing to start there, then Jordan collecting shouldn't be an active hobby.

So in short, BUY WHAT YOU LIKE!

either what you like to collect and admire, or buy and rock until the soles wear through.

What Rusty said.

But I'd stick with the classics.  Those almost always will be re-retroed after 5 years.

Also most bulls colorway items will have more demand than supply.

Why do you like Air Jordans?

The reason I ask is that if you don't have a good idea of which models and colors hold specific significance, you likely don't know much at all about Michael Jordan's career or the history of the Jordan brand. That's okay - everybody was new once. But, usually the love for something emerges after one develops the requisite understanding and appreciation, not the other way around. The legends of the Jordan signature shoes evolved along with the legend of Michael Jordan the player and the accompanying social/music/pop culture of the time. So, most "true" aficionados experienced at least some of this first hand and the shoes represent something of a time capsule of a sacred era in sports, music, and their life.

If none of that applies to you, maybe you should reconsider whether Jordans are the hobby for you.

And, if you're new, don't worry about any of this and buy what you like. All kinds of shoes that are sought after today were passed aside years ago. In 1994, the 1s, 2s, and 3s that retroed rotted on shelves and could have been bought for $30 - $50 easily. Infrared VIs from 2001 went on clearance. Even modern stuff that the newer generation considers "grails." The "Toro Bravo" pack was all over the place at $199. Almost every CDP could have been had for that price too. Infrared Packs were attainable for $199.

son of mars brah very nice for collection and will be going for resale up to 1k :smokin

:rolleyes

My advice is to just buy what you really like, especially if you're buying to wear.   However, if you want an opinion, mine is to buy retros that release in the original colorways(typically Bulls colors) that Jordan played in.   That's a broad range so to narrow it down at little,  you can't go wrong with Jordan's 3 - 6 and of course 11s in the original colorways.

Hard to say, but through history, every Jordan that was slammed and sat on shelves 10-20 years ago are now the go to shoes. Grapes, carmines, olives, all ones and even the concords sat on shelves when they first came out. Just grab what you like, but you can never go wrong with of colors. And I'm going to go against the others. The og non Chicago colors (think blue 3's, military 4's, grape 5's, maroon and sprt blue 6's, olive 9's, cool grey 11's, blue/flint and altitude 13's for example) are worth even more than most black/red color ways.

Wear what you like and collect what you like, but the consensus is usually OG colorways on the 3-13 as most popular Air Jordan's.

^
actually the most popular (or top 10 on NT anyway) are the following: 1, 3-8, 11-13

how do i know this...i did a survey with a large enough sample size

but op, you won't be successful because you don't have the intrinsic motivation or the heart

I agree, I fall into that range except I love the 2's as well lol, I was just talking about in general 3-13 get the most buzz. Lately 1's have been surging though. I think he can develop an appreciation to really like Jordan's. My gf knew nothing about Jordan's until she saw me wear my concords about a year ago. Since then she's scooped quite a few j's and knows more than the average Joe (she's done her homework).

In all honesty dude, just collect what you like.  cause the game is too expensive to have every single Jordan cw that you think will be collectible cause in the end, it's your collection not anyone elses.  But if you're looking for a definite answer then IMO get his retros.  start there then find out what's being hyped.  People talk mad about the retros...nobody talking about any other random Jordan brand shoe.

this thread is ridiculous as well as this post, toro bravo pack was nt all over the place for 200 neither where cdp and DEFINITELY not the infra red pack, toro bravo was just like any release back then pretty obtainable but they weren't all over for 200 the only cdp's that where 200 where the 1-22, the 2-21 pack and i saw some 5-18 packs cheap as well, and the infra red pack i would love to know where u found this for under retail or even 400 after release date they sold out online instantly on every website believe me i struck out on EVERY WEBSITE the night of release and just b/c u see one pair sitting in a low volume store on clearance but yet go for 500+ online doesn't mean they sat

to be honest, I've been collecting since 1989 any air jordan shoe with the same color that Michael Jordan wear is a collectible.. make sure they have Roman numerals... and any air Jordan that comes out the week of Christmas is always a collectible...

Lots of great info guys. Yeah, I remember all these shoes in high school, unfortunately, I was one of those kids whose parents couldn't afford them. Here we are 15 years later and now I can finally buy what I want, when I want. I can truly appreciate the significance of the shoe, I know how to delicately handle your shoes, when to wear them and when not to wear them. It's not about the money for me, if I can make a buck or two along the way great, but that's not what I want out of it. Along with wearing what I like, I also like "the thrill of the hunt". I enjoy having those rare finds and trophies.

I don't get why it has to be a "collectors". collect the shoes you like. pretty much all retros will have some type of resale value if you take care of them decent
