What up?!
I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am to visit your city.
I'll be here with my girlfriend and DESPERATELY need help.
Be there around 7/15-20. BARE with me with the reading NT , thanks!

Questions about...

SAN DIEGO ZOO:
- Where's the cheapest place I can get tickets?
- Is the Safari Park they have worth buying for?
- Will a day be enough to explore the entire park?
- In addition, which day should we go (does it really matter)?
- Considering Sea World, worth it? My girl is an animal lover.

FOOD:
- Phil's BBQ is on my list! Where else would you recommend?
- I'm open to all types of food, if it's good we'll try it!

SIGHT SEEING:
- GAS LAMP DISTRICT?
- PACIFIC BEACH?
- These are some I've gotten so far, but need more!

HOTEL:
- Where Should I stay? As mentioned, I'll be heading to SD Zoo and spots above.
- Should I rent a car and drive to places myself or take taxis?

APPRECIATE all the input, whether it's big or small, thanks NT!

Not from San Diego, but living in La I've been there about 10 times.

San Diego zoo.. I really don't think there's cheap ticket places other than employers. Sometimes places like Ralph's will run promotions on the tickets but they don't really go on sale. (At least in my experience)
I think sea world is a lot better all around experience than the zoo. Zoo's are cool and all but you just walk around looking at animals, while sea world has shows and rides. I've generally loved sea world more but it's all preference .

When I visited San Diego, I stayed in the hotel circle (went through Priceline got a dirt cheap 3 star hotel with a mini kitchen for 50/night) it was great to be right by the freeways and in the middle of everything. There's no noise from the freeway and its close to attractions. Only thing lacking was that it was a bit far form restaurants and bars.

Sight seeing I would definitely hit the beach , gas lamp is over rated IMO. Some places are super dirty. Make sur you go to FedEx field it's so surreal !

You definitely need a car, everything is spread out.

** just a noteI highly recommend Priceline or Hotwire if you really do not care about name brand hotels. When. Travel I don't care where I'm going to sleep as long as its a safe area. How long will you really spend in the hotel?

Also the attractions better to visit during the week.

bed and breakfast all day

I'd def try to stay in North Park because it's pretty close to a lot of things

Food:

Lolita's --> Get the California Burrito and Carne Asada Fries. Don't ask, just do it!
Urban Solace - Good spot in North Park. Comfort foods
Bar Basic - Good pizza

Places to go:
Belmont Park is cool
Sea Port Village was one of my favorite date spots while living there. You can walk to the Hyatt hotel and take an elevator to the top and get a good view of SD
Gaslamp is pretty overrated and filled with douchebags at night. I'd def do East Village instead.

If you go to Pacific Beach, skip PB Bar and Grill

Thanks Mecks and Christian.

I think I might stay at a place off airbnb recommended by Tide.

So far I got 200/person for plane tickets, San Diego go card (286 for two), and 90 x 4 nights = 360 for "Hotel".

This leaves rental car...Any recommendations?

-Rental car I would just use Hotwire for SAN (San Diego Airport) That way you can visit everything on your own time and not stress about rides back and forth to the airport.
*One thing I always do when booking a rental car online, always take the cheapest one no matter what the car. Outside of the holidays their fleet is always up and you can upgrade to a larger/nicer vehicle if you want at what will be a cheaper rate*

HOTEL:
I didnt see a price range you were trying to stay in so Ill just put where I love to stay...Hard Rock San Diego...Rooms are extremely nice and geared towards couples, rooftop pools, spa, night clubs, restaurant, and in Gaslamp ( Downtown area)

Food:
-Trulucks
-Phils (as mentioned)
-Slaters 50/50
-Eureka Gormet Burgers and Craft Beers
-Extraodinary Desserts (A Must!)
-Hodads
-Hash House
-Tractor room
-Cafe 21
-Candelas on the Bay
-Katsuya

Places to visit:
-Old Town (Waling House)
-Cabrillo National Monument Park
-Gaslamp Walking Tour
-Seaport Village
-Midway

Hope this helps some...

^ Much appreciated, repped!

Lots of the nice places are looking like 150-200/night :x...I'm gonna do the airbnb route.
The apartment/house we're trying to stay at is near pacific beach; which I've been told is 15-20 minutes away from everything.

I'm 24 turning 25, I'm hoping car rental can be cheaper. I'll look into hotwire, but all of this is new to me!

Yeah rates maybe slightly higher because of age but def go the hotwire route, some companies wont hit you in the end with the age fee thing.

PB shouldnt be to far from every thing myself and others have listed.

FUUU, the place I was looking at is booked. Place was nice and 90/night.

I've been told majority of SD hotels don't offer free parking, true?

It depends on where you're staying but in downtown I think they charge for parking.

This is what you should do, go on price line pick the area you are trying to stay at and bid at 60% what you would do. So if your budget is $90 then go $55/night for a 5 star hotel. Then bid $60 for 4 and 5 star in the area you want that should jelp you get a good hotel.

just a heads up hotels in the downtown area might be booked already since the week you visiting is during comic con

Hotel downtown looks ridiculously expensive , I appreciate the heads up - Thanks fam!

So disappointed the 90/night house was taken.

CHANGE OF PLANS:

- Likely to drive down, this saves plane tickets ($200/person), possible parking fees at hotels, and car rental ($160?).
- AirBNB...Please give me a nice place :frown:...2 more months to find!

This is stressful, damn these expensive hotels.

My main question now is...Does it matter if I go to main attractions on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday compared to Friday?

Reason is because I'll be booking hotels for M-TH (cheaper) and checking out at Friday.

Phil's BBQ better be on your list.

but Oscar's Mexican Seafood should be higher up!

Oceanside is about 20min north from Pacific Beach/ and most spots you would going to.

Dude. Don't drive man. That's a what... 10 hour drive ? Gas will be about 150 each way (when I drove to Phoenix from La in a 4 cylinder car that got 24 miles/ gallon used a tank and a half or about $100) + lost time . Fly sotuhwest you can get tickets for about 150/each way , then bid on the hotel and car on Priceline. I'm telli u bro that would be the best way

I think you made a big boo boo going during comic con bro. Even the crappy hotels will be booked

Tell me about it , my girlfriend's bday is on the 8th but couldn't get it off.

She asked for the following week off...It's all good Mecks. Appreciate the help!

WHAT I'LL BE DOING:

I'll be booking off expedia for hotel/flights and getting a rental off hotwire.

Hotel/Flight is 899 total for two people.

It's a holiday in tho....

Also Mecks, you gotta change those dates to 7/16-7/20 !

Believe me when I tell you I appreciate the look out. Two weeks left of school and I'm planning this

I was thinking about this hotel...I tried using mapquest and said it's about 20-30 minutes away from the zoo:

http://www.yelp.com/biz/best-western-plus-chula-vista

Is Chula Vista a bad neighborhood?
I live and grew up by that Best Western. That area isn't too bad, there just isn't much around there for attractions but aquatica (closed), San Ysidro outlets and the border. If you plan on crossing the border, Adelitas and Hong Kong club are a must.  All tourist spots are a good 20-30 from that spot. Gotta hit up crab hut if you're into seafood

Screw 7/16-7/20...

Trying to go (if my girl can get the dates off) 7/23 - 7/27 instead...Sheraton suites for the same price as crap...

:pimp:
