Hey guys,

Quick overview before I get into details, because who likes reading long boring paragraphs anyways.

Overview of the competition

- Nasa had a space apps challenge, the challenges can be viewed here: http://spaceappschallenge.org/challenges/
- Over 9,000 people participated in 17 different countries
- You had 2 days to create a concept and build the app from scratch (obv alot of ppl didn't follow this and spent weeks on their apps but we wanted to stay true to the competition and actually did everything from the idea to the finished product in 48 hours)
- They chose 1-2 winners per City, depending on the amount of participants

- My team ended up winning one of the spots in Toronto: http://spaceappschallenge.org/project/the-voyager/

- Our main objective was to take data that may not appeal to the average joe and make it a visual experience that would make learning about complicated topics fun.
- We spent the entire weekend building this thing from the ground up, not getting an ounce of sleep that weekend.
- It's still full of bugs and there are tons fo features we will be including, but this is what we managed in 2 sleepless days.

They are doing the voting for peoples choice, and it's kind of a popularity contest. So if you guys can go here and click the 'Vote for this project on Twitter'

Or simple tweet the following message: I vote #intergalacticspecies for @spaceapps People's Choice Award!

And of course don't just vote for us because I told you to, check out the other entries and if you find something you think deserves to win, vote for them! The other entries can be found here.

What do you guys get in return

There's not much I could offer, but working in web for the last decade I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys may have in relation to graphic design or web development. Or if there is anything else you guys can think of just ask!

And of course the main goal of this challenge was to get more people interested in what Nasa is doing and to collaborate to come up with cool new technology. If anybody is interested in participating make sure to sign up for next years competition!

Thanks for your time,
Mario

VoidEmperor - Thanks man!

Melo0115 - Thanks for the support! The 'sexy asian female' is using Adobe Illustrator CS6

The following was used to develop the app:

- Adobe Illustrator CS6 (content layout)
- Adobe Photoshop CS6 (backgrounds)
- Cinema 4d (Planets)
- Cornerstone (Repository)
- Textmate (HTML/CSS/Javascript)

Jay Patt - All good, thanks for the support. I was actually surprised at how much fun it turned out to be. We literally worked non stop the entire weekend but it didn't feel like work at all.

Guzzy - Thanks! :D

JaysRcrak - Unfortunately there isn't. But this is only for the peoples choice award and I feel like they set it up in a way to promote the event more than anything (still would love to win it though). There are still a few categories we're really strong in that we may end up winning.

Thanks for all the love guys, here's a few screens from the design phase:
