Chris Brown vs. Neighbors vol. visually grinding gears

counter-arguments;

I never understand people that spend $$$ to live in crowded areas and demand peace and quiet.
look how close those homes are to each other, what did they expect? Everyone to live the same lifestyle?

I never understand people that tell people how to spend their $
well said, but doesn't apply this situation since his poor tastes ate affecting the property values of the community. we're not talking thousands of dollars, but hundreds of thousands of dollars. It would be different if he had his own lot that wasnt governed by an HOA.

That doesn't look like an upscale community at all. I pictured something totally different.

He should know better... I think.

When it all boils down, He CAN do whatever he wants with his property, HOA or not. However if he does he will have to face the consequences. He signed the HOA contract, so he agreed to the terms. So keep the mural Breezy. But expect to pay the fines. You got it. And dont expect any of your neighbors to like you.
He CAN'T do whatever he wants. There are these things called building codes that cities put in place that WE have to abide by.

You can't just add a 2nd, 3rd story without a permit.

And again, you never OWN the property..you're at the mercy of the city at all times. If you want a new bathroom/kitchen/driveway, etc, yeah, you can do it but not without the proper permits. I live in a Historical Overlay zone in L.A., I bought the house with vinyl windows, and was doing stucco work when the lady who heads the HPOZ board stopped and saw the work. 30 minutes later and inspector was there with STOP WORK order. I was sent all the way to the City Attorney and was faced with a 100k fine and 1 year in jail if I didnt change all the front facing windows pack to period specific wood windows.

I *****ed and complained but at the end of the day I wasn't bout that taking the city on life.

Forget the HOA. It's a city ordinace. Like I stated above..the ordinance I live in is "historical".
thats fine. art is subjective and means something different to every single person on earth.

but we are talking about the hollywood hills over here. u kno how many ratchet mansion parties go down up there in the weekends?? if a rich person wanted peace, quiet, & conservative, theyd move to palos verdes or malibu. hollywood is fast, loud, and flashy in general. i cant see the problem with cb's artwork on his own mansion when it fits who and where he is. maybe that is why i think its cool. imo its going to take a lot more crap than cb's art to devalue the other houses on that hill. those neighbors are just making it a big deal. i find it hard to believe a wealthy person would demand a price drop or refuse to move into his dream mansion cause he has to drive past cb's house everyday for half a second. life goes on. but hey, there are neighbors that are pissed, and neighbors that are okay with it, so in other words, everyone is entitled to their own opinions whether u think hes right or wrong. ppl have anger issues if that art really bothers them. nobody is really being affected by the art. ppl get mad over the stupidest things. im probbaly one of those neighbors that just doesnt care what CB does 2 his own house. but then again i can understand why some of u would be pissed like the other neighbors. i guess im just a more laid back neighbor who minds his own business and takes like day to day. all that stress over ur harmless neighbor is unhealthy.

yes i wrote an essay. i am bored at work. come at me bros with ur opinions. flamesuit ready
This is why I can't take you seriously. You know nothing about owning property obviously. And ignorant statements about wanting peace and quiet, go somewhere else?  Everyone wants piece and quiet when they go home, no matter where they live. It's called respect. Throw parties all you want, just don't be a prick about having loud music and people past 1-2 a.m. in the morning. Hollywood Hills is also home to many writers and regular wealthy folk (real estate agents, executives, etc.) that buy there for it's exclusivity. They dont buy there to have morons like CB messing up the neighborhood.

His 'art' is in street view, unpermited. There's murals that have been in place in venice beach that have been forced to be removed because new neighbors and old were complaining about the property value. I can appreciate graffiti for what it is but I dont want to live in front of a wall of it. They already have to deal with all the media coverage that comes from him living there and now he's being a prick with this latest antic.

Let's not forget that he has a history of being a prick neighbor. He was forced out of West Hollywood because of his disrespecful, entitled attitude. West Hollywood is gay central and they have no issues with noise and parties so its obviously CB that does these things on purpose for the sake of being an *******.

He always has been. Just because he isn't spewing his garbage in this thread, yet, doesn't excuse him from what other posters on here already know.
No he hasn't .

It's just that most of you Nters are soft.

I'm a long time lurker and i read just about every thread in the general section of this forum. I see how you guys make a big deal out of something as small as a joke. Claiming racism every time something doesn't go your way.

And wtf do you care what a person over the internet thinks?

People are entitled to their own opinion, get over it.

As a homeowner, I would NEVER move next door or even a few houses down to someone who defaces their property.

1. It brings down the value of surrounding properties

2. It's an eyesore

You need to have pride in your neighborhood. It's as simple as that. You may think that people get mad over the stupidest things, but when it affects YOUR money, maybe you'd have a different POV.

im sorry but something being an eyesore is not high on my list of reasons not to move into a neighborhood. Hey the property value going down might be good for me as a new home buyer

dont know if serious or sarcasm.

Nah
that's just it,  HE isn't worried about property value, the other homeowners are worried about their own, what he does to the outside of his home
effects the value of the ones around him

I'm talking about the people around him .. They'll be there longer than he will..

Are any of them planning in selling in the near future?

I doubt it.

So why does property value matter, if you have no immediate plans to sell?

And it's only ONE house ..

I just think they complaining cuz it's chris brown .

LOL at the foolishness in this thread......i'm guessing a lot of you have never owned property before......I'm a fan of chris brown's music but you cannot justify this......

I don't think you fully understand property value. It is not just about the homeowner's property around him, but the developer's neighborhood. Homes come and go, are bought and sold, and the market fluctuates. The same thing happens there. People buy homes, and they sell homes. Someone had to sell Chris Brown his home.

With the property defaced like it is, the property around it suffers the consequences. No future homeowner wants to purchase a house with noisy neighbors or disturbing artwork in their face. It turns away potential buyers like they were never there to start with.

One house it may be, but if you were to want to buy a home you wouldn't want that. People usually settle into houses when they want children and to settle down. Most look for somewhere peaceful. The last thing they want to see is a bunch of monsters spray painted, and loud music bumping all night. That defeats the purpose of moving out of the city.

One bad apple makes the whole bunch look bad.

I'm pretty sure at this point people are just trolling you.

People worried about property values and aren't even selling anytime soon. If they were selling then I'd understand the beef. But that "artwork" looks horrendous.

To everyone saying "let the man live" blah blah blah.......

Not every person has the kind of $$$$$ that Brown has. To them, their homes are probably a major investment and they actually care about what can affect its market value. He is definitely making that high class neighborhood look pretty trashy.... On a side note, that lambo is

If you are buying your house to flip it... THEN FLIP IT
If you are buying it to live in it...LIVE IN IT AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW SOMEONE ELSE IS MAKING IT HARD TO FLIP

More people should be aware of whether owning a home is really for them, because some buy homes who should be renting and then turn around and try to get back everything that they spent on it. Buy a house because it's the American dream to be the lord of your own little (or big) estate. Buy because you want to plant the roots for generations of your family to live in it. Buy because you want some sort of property where you have FULL privacy and FREEDOM.

If you just want somewhere to live temporarily... rent. That way when this mural pops up you won't be stuck there hoping you can sell. I think that's such a dumb argument.

I bet you guys are the same kinda people who would say "Hey man, those are grails!!! You can't hoop in those Lebron MVP's! You own em, and they're made for basketball, but that's against the rules!"

I hope you aren't trolling, man.

It's not about the neighbors. It's about the real estate developer's money.

Those people shouldnt be worried. Not like Chris is gonna stay in the same neighborhood the next 10 years. Im sure he'll sell in less than 5 years.
Rarely any celebrity stays in the same house a long time.
Anyway Im sure he did it to get in the news and the graffiti will be removed soon.

hes gonna do what he wants at the end of the day so they can complain all they want
