Rock the Bells Festival Cancels Remaining Shows
By JAMES C. MCKINLEY JR.

Promoters of the Rock the Bells hip-hop festival have canceled two shows in Washington D.C. this weekend and two in New York City next weekend because of lackluster ticket sales.

The announcement late on Thursday afternoon came as a shock to hip-hop fans on the East Coast. The annual festival, which does two-day stops in several major cities and attracts many of the biggest figures in the genre, is one of the biggest events on the hip-hop calendar.

The California-based company that puts on the event, Guerrilla Union, put out a statement apologizing to fans and corporate sponsors. “It’s extremely unfortunate that we can’t complete the last half of the 10th Anniversary Rock the Bells tour,” said Chang Weisberg, the owner of Guerilla Union. “We did everything in our power to save the show. Unfortunately, the financial loss would have been devastating.”

Mr. Chang said full refunds would be given to ticketholders at the locations where the tickets were purchased. The festival was to have taken place at R.F.K. Stadium in Washington, D.C., on Saturday and Sunday, and then moved on to the Meadowlands Racetrack on Oct. 4. and 5. The lineup was to have featured Kid Cudi, Wu-Tang Clan, Wale, Chief Keef, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, among a score of other rappers.

Lineup is looking kinda weak as it stands right now. Headlined by holograms.

Shoutouts to whoever decided to have the shoreline show the same weekend as the floyd fight and niners/seahawks game. I'll be putting my RTB money towards a vegas and seattle trip instead.

Im liking the line up.

Krit
Black Hippy
Common*
Currensy
Danny Brown
Dilated
Dom Kennedy
Earl
Cudi
Rakim
Talib Kweli
Tyler* (If he is at the NJ show)

and of course Wu assuming they all show up. The hologram ODB could be interesting.

So that's 12 for me out of the early line up. They alway add on.

Looking to go to the DC show. This years lineup at first glance I was amazed, but looking at it now, I hope they add some more people.

But seeing Krit, Bone Thugs, Wu, Cudi, Black Hippy, Dom, Rakim, is worth it.

Tech N9ne should have a higher billing than what they gave him. some of these acts is being placed on stage by they labels. Who the F want to see hit-boy? nobody even kno him like that.  i wouldnt mind seein wu tang 40& short immortal technique and bone thugs tho

EAZY E HOLOGRAM BONE THUGS BLACK HIPPY .. IN MY CITY!?!? im there my ******

Liking the lineup this year :pimp: Definitely gonna have to try to hit this up... I went a couple years ago & it was a lot of fun, been trying to go again. A lot of those sets are gonna be :nthat:

Thats not the actually billing tho, its their names in alphabetical order.

Rather have a solo J5 and Kid Cudi show. Hate this festival overload.

And  @ Tyler the Creator, Hopsin, and Lecrae at the same fest

Good thing I ctrl + f and typed in Rock the bells. I was close to making a thread about it.

Definitely looking forward to buying a presale ticket tomorrow for the Mountain View showing. The lineup is

The hologram will be interesting. I'm really looking forward to seeing Krit, wtc, and bone thugs.

Hoping they all show up and not drop out.

they scraped the barrel on this one. You'd think they'd be able to do better with all these rappers having tax troubles.

:smh: they scraped the barrel on this one. You'd think they'd be able to do better with all these rappers having tax troubles. :rolleyes

Who they supposed to get

Common, Kweli, E-40, Too Short, Wu-tang, the whole Black Hippy crew, Kid Cudi Hologram Eazy with Bone Thugs, Tech N9ne

Sounds about right for Rock the Bells

That's the point. If you went to RTB the last 2 years you've seen all that

Chase and Status?
If the full live band is there you can't miss them. Best live dnb set you'll ever see

Here's to hoping 40 and too short are allowed to perform at the shoreline this year. Heard they tore it up at San Bernadino last year.

To any Bay Area fans buying tickets for Jurassic 5 they won't be there.

Rock The Bells proves year after year how incompetent of a business they are. Announce separate lineups for each show. Don't include all the artists and have people buy tickets then say where they won't be. It's a shady practice and they haven't got called out on it enough if you ask me.

Jersey got screwed big time last year because of this :smh:

^ Yeah I thought last year with all the different people was rough. I went the past two years. (NY then NJ last year)

They played Nas and Ghost and Raes set the first time, because Childish Gambino of all people did not get on the stage in his normal time slot.

Last year was just rough with most of the performances being on the main stage only because it pretty much forced you to sit through 2 Chainz and Future sets. PNC was kind of nice tho, espcially since it sold horribly and you could take a seat.

Overall both times I had a few complaints but I saw many great artists for a cheap price of $100-120

This year looks pretty good and not too many only in certain market artists.

I also don't mind seeing some people twice because chances are I like them. The only people from this line up that did either of the past 2 years in the NYC/Jersey show are Currensy, Bone Thugs, Immortal Technique, and Talib Kweli (whos other set was with Blackstar, not solo)
