Django went from the fields of white cotton to the White House, but he still standing behind a white

Another good black directed film I saw recently nawghtywhere is "I Will Follow" directed by Ava DuVernay. She also has a movie that came out late last year that I plan to watch soon called "Middle of Nowhere".

You should also look forward to checking out "Fruitvale Station" directed Ryan Coogler

Tatum can obviously sell more movies.. He has to be lead..

Nobody's about to go see a movie starring Jamie Foxx.. lol

I agree with everything u just said. BUT I think the real problem is the black actors tryna cater to everyone else and not embracing "where they came from" I miss those boys in the hood, takes from the hood, menace II society, Friday, the wood, new jack city, above the rim type of movies. Those were movies made for us by us without us tripping off us getting starring roles. Now we are castes in "their" movies mad at the role we got. Well how about we go back to doing us. We support our own movies its just not that many people are making em. And don't not one damn person mention Tyler perry
Wow. Just how ignorant are you? You want them to make movies that further reinforces the stereotype that all blacks are either drugdealers, gangbangers, or only good at playing basketball. You've got to be kidding me. That's not US, you maybe, but not US.
Word

Y'all think everything is racially motivated . . . studios are not trying to cater to 14% of the population and they are DEFINITELY not going to do so when Tyler Perry has that lane locked sadly

Also, alot of the movies nawghty hare is talking about do still come out . . . they just go straight to DVD . . . cause nobody is paying 10-20 dollars to see that ****

Besides, if they made more New Jacks and Boys in the hood, there would be threads saying "Why are they portraying us like the stereotypes" . . . a la the music section . . .

I think in OP's post he is reaching though . . . security is usually in front . . . I guess they could have had them side by side but honestly I do not think some hipster graphic designer cares as much as you think about subliminal racial messages . . . Y'all be looking for things

Two different movies, two different producers, two different directors, different crew, etc...... you're reaching.

I wish they made more movies like those urban films from the 90s, but that /@ ain't happening. Its about money. The culture ain't the same no more from the music to movies to life. Its all changed for better and worst. All we can do is reminisce and hope that what they say about life holds true.

This big time

i just want to see Static Shock in Theaters
Starring Jaden Smith
smokin.gif
Honestly it was a shame that show ended . . . was good as any other DC cartoon and being honest, there isn't any other black superhero that marketable . . . don't see how that didn't pop off . . . they didn't even get toys in any kids meals or anything lol . . .

But there is money to be made in a Static movie . . . I used to be obsessed with it as a kid and looked up some of the comics, it dealt with some serious issues . . . plus, movies could basically market it as a black Spider Man if they're worried about selling tickets . . . matter of fact, I'd honestly rather see it made into a live action TV show . . . really surprised Warner/DC hasn't taken advantage of that . . . potential cash cow . . .

What? Boys in the hood didn't reinforce a stereotype. The wood didn't enforce one. They showed how u can over come. Above the rim as well. Man U know what I mean stop making it seem like I want a dramatization of hood 2 hood

how did you feel about pursuit of happiness? that was a good film with an excellent lead actor.

OP go make a thread about the movie Collateral and complain about that too :rolleyes

You asked whats the basis when the very thread you posted in is evidence of that basis

Well then clearly you don't understand my points and I suggest you read a bit more carefully.

For one if you looked at my posts in my replies to naughtywhere in this thread you will see that I do support many black directors and listed about 8-9 movies recently produced by black directors so no I don't fit into the "y'all don't even support your own directors" category.

Two the expectations that you stated that y'all have are inaccurate when it comes to my posts. Nobody is saying that they expect Hollywood to cater to 14% of the population so I don't even know where you got that idea from to post yet another inaccurate generalization.

Whats sad is that you think because I don't support Tyler Perry equates to me not supporting black directors when clearly I actually do. :smh:

You made a bunch of generalizations that had nothing to do with anything I stated at all.

Not mention that I may not agree with the OP but me posting another way we should be looking at something regarding race in film is not evidence of your generalizations.

Ok so the problem is you thought I was talking to you in my original statement. I wasn't.

I liked it. But man I hated how everyone was kicking him when he was down.

I support movies quite a bit, including "black" movies. Even if I've seen a bootleg version of the movie, if I like it, I buy it. But lately my purchases of "black" films have decreased.

Can we just get more movies like these...

Movies that black people (and actually all races) can relate to. Movies that show more than just gangbaggin, drug-dealing, and killing. Movies that show how black people are different, but also share many characteristics of other races (love of sports, memories from growing up, love, friendship, difficulties of life and careers, importance of family etc).

I'm not saying every movie that I've shown below is an oscar winning (even though the Academy's opinions in themselves don't always produce the best films in my opinion) amazing film, but they're a start in the right direction. We don't ONLY have to have Tyler Perry and his non-sense and hood movies as representation of us.

I didn't mention Red Tails because I actually haven't had a chance to watch it myself yet. I will watch it soon, and if I like it, I'll cop it on Blu-Ray.
