Django went from the fields of white cotton to the White House, but he still standing behind a white

Real issue here is wondering why Foxx would bother taking this role

. Dude is a good actor, he doesn't need to be in this type of cheesy movie.
you're talkin bout a actor that did booty call..let's be serious here..you throw enough money at jamie foxx and

he'll do anything.

I'm black and I think ur putting too much thought into it

I'm black as well and I don't think the question that should be raised as to where Jamie Foxx is standing in a poster for a movie. However we should ask why is it that in action movies the lead protagonist is generally a white male. Black Presidents in TB shows and movies have been "acceptable" for some time now but if you think about there still is a lack of minority lead protagonists in major action movies.

I am aware that some of you will be quick to point out movies that Denzel, Will Smith and Wesley Snipes have done but other than those actors there have not been many cast as the lead protagonist/hero in major action films.
I agree with everything u just said. BUT I think the real problem is the black actors tryna cater to everyone else and not embracing "where they came from" I miss those boys in the hood, takes from the hood, menace II society, Friday, the wood, new jack city, above the rim type of movies. Those were movies made for us by us without us tripping off us getting starring roles. Now we are castes in "their" movies mad at the role we got. Well how about we go back to doing us. We support our own movies its just not that many people are making em. And don't not one damn person mention Tyler perry

Idk. How many hood movies do you need tho? And how are they made for us? I don't think the entire black population can relate to menace 2 society. Well not 100% at least. I will agree we need more movies with black ( or any minority) leads that tell meaningful relevant stories that one can relate to with respect to today's social climate. Even more movies about historical black figures or movements would be much appreciated. Hollywood ain't having that tho word to George Lucas' red tails.

Yall really be wanting Hollywood to cater to 14% of the population

Dudes is trying to make money....and when "they" give you a black lead yall cry about it

Yall dont eem support ya own people....word to Tyler Perry and Red Tails

I don't understand your basis for your generalizations.

I believe his basis is the amount of hate tryler perry movies get on here and the fact that red tails didnt do too well in the box office

Jamie Foxx always plays the fake lead.

The only time where i can say he outright owned the movie was in Ray. Look at Django for example, most people would have assumed he was the lead but it didn't feel like it.

Subconsciously, I didn't even look at the poster and come to that conclusion.

I support movies quite a bit, including "black" movies. Even if I've seen a bootleg version of the movie, if I like it, I buy it. But lately my purchases of "black" films have decreased.

Can we just get more movies like these...

Movies that black people (and actually all races) can relate to. Movies that show more than just gangbaggin, drug-dealing, and killing. Movies that show how black people are different, but also share many characteristics of other races (love of sports, memories from growing up, love, friendship, difficulties of life and careers, importance of family etc).

I'm not saying every movie that I've shown below is an oscar winning (even though the Academy's opinions in themselves don't always produce the best films in my opinion) amazing film, but they're a start in the right direction. We don't ONLY have to have Tyler Perry and his non-sense and hood movies as representation of us.

I didn't mention Red Tails because I actually haven't had a chance to watch it myself yet. I will watch it soon, and if I like it, I'll cop it on Blu-Ray.

im a bit confused. hollywood told lucas to **** when he proposed red tails. their reasoning was we can't market an all black cast to a general audience.
but then how the hell did these movies get made? like love and basketball? or pursuit of happyness?

srs question.

well pursuit of happiness stars Will Smith and he's always profitable. You do bring up a good question about why we dont see movies like those posted above today

^ Those movies have a different content than red tails...and a more historical movie that depicts events that have largely gone untold on the big screen is not perceived to be as entertaining. When studios market a film, I know they consider the demographics and they also look at the previous success of movies with an all black cast and keep churning out the same product.

The movies listed in the post quoted all follow a typical formula. Except for The Pursuit of Happyness, and The City of God, and even with that movie I don't look at it as an American film.

Even more so to my point.

Why not look at making a film different to the "typical formula" that you've just mentioned.

City of God's story, was something that many people could relate to, simply put a coming of age tale of two childhood friends (which funnily enough, can be said about The Wood too)

The underlying story of City of God could have been told brilliantly as well with an all-white cast. But the cast they chose delivered the story to perfection. My point is, why can't we have movies with stories we can all relate to, played by talented actors (seriously, there has to be more to the world than Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Blair Underwood and Steve Harris).

The guy who really pissed me off lately was Steve Harvey, because even though his screenplay fell flat towards the end with a predicable ending (then again, so do most rom-com's) he had the potential to make a "black" movie with great actors and a story that everyone could relate to. But instead he decided to do what feels like throwin out passes to his friends and "popular" people like Wendy Williams, Chris Brown, Morris Chestnut, Kerry Hilson, Kelly Rowland, Megan Goode (she's fine as hell, but she can't act).

We don't do ourselves any favors sometimes...:smh:

Why can't the be side by side?

If he's in the front , he's a shield ..

If he's in the back he's a weakling or a peon ..

If he's side by side , he's an equal ..

LOL

For those of you requesting for black films by black directors. There are films out there (and I listed some a few pages earlier), you just have to actively search for them. If you expect Hollywood to just be your search of black films by black directors then yes you are going just be presented with Tyler Perry and be extremely disappointed.

Indiewire.com is a great place to stay informed regarding these films.

Why would I support Tyler Perry perpetuating the same stereotypes over and over? I don't want to be told that men of my skin tone are evil and that light skinned men are the savior in every flick.

Red Tails was horrible. It was a movie with no direction and no identity. Blatant from how they marketed it. The Tuskegee Airman movie on HBO was infinitely better than that.

I just saw the commercial for this and this is a step back for Jamie Foxx. This is a role he would have taken in the 90s. The Jordans line was cringe worthy

Pretty sure there are TP movies where the savior is dark skinned, like Derek Luke for example

This was the best over the top corny movie I have ever seen, just when I was like no way they can add another twist, in came another one. I cried when Channing tatum saved the day even though everyone watching and characters in the movie knew he was gonna save that boy jamie. From the bred 4s, to Jamie being shot twice and still keeping his glasses in tact. I love this MOVIE
