NFL Quarterbacks Discussion thread: 2013 Edition

Y'all all gotta learn it can be significant if you're right or wrong, but people out there can still be knowledgeable and get things wrong. No one, not even the ones that receive a salary for it, are right most of the time when they try to predict the future/how a guy's going to improve/progress/turn into because that's just not possible to know what the hell's going to happen all the time. We can only try to look at what's in front of us and sum it up the best we can.

So many things go into maturation and development that don't get accounted for when we and others out there evaluate a single player.

There is no crime in being wrong. Hell I find dude's analysis interesting either way. I just didn't like dude coming off as if we were crazy for not agreeing with him and making it personal.

Its all good though, we all do it at times.

Never saw this response. Very well thought-out JP...Stand up guy, this man.

Agreed.

It wasnt even all that.

The 9ers fans got all upset because something was said about Kap and Wilson was out ahead

My biggest concern for next year with Kap is how he's gonna play with all these dudes hanging off his ****.
Loud and wrong.  Why don't you disappear like you did last year............but this time, permanently.

Now, just to address/clarify my point to 651akathePaul.  I got NO problem with you ranking Kaep where you did, more power to you.  You can list him at dead last for all I care, knock yourself out.  The issue that I had was the manner in which you presented your case, had you said "I think Kaep will take a step back this year (with the key word being THINK) for x amount of reasons" then that would have been okay with me.  Reason being is because your more so stating your opinion and presenting a case, opposed to you stating in all out fact or something definite which you did when you said "Kaep WILL take a step back this year"  See the difference??

That's why I wanted to get at the heart of your statement by asking my qualifications you had or what credentials you have to make an outright direct claim such as that.  Even professional analysts get things wrong from time to time as nobody is correct all the time, but at least they have some history and a rapport that can help establish their claim to the public.  For what it's worth, you have neither that we know about.  Nothing wrong with that of course but just as a bit of help to you in the future champ, folks are going to look at you with raised eyebrows when you give a statement with such an iron-fist mentality, IMO.  Keep doing your thing here on the boards as I can see your really passionate about what you do.  That's good, we need that kind of passion around here.....just gotta steer it in the right direction.

Over-sensitivity running deep in this thread!

Carry on, 651. I would say most enjoy your analysis and don't see it as being told what to believe.

Matt Flynn :smh:

Russell won the starting job from him last year, but this time he just straight up lost it...Unless Pryor craps himself this week.

Just to update how the kid is doin. There's a scout I follow that's really smart, knows his ****. He's been trackin Tannehill and has him down for about 80% of his throws are out in under 2.5 seconds. (which is good considering our OLine)

16 Pro starts.
17 Collegiate starts.

And he's already learned how to make a quick, decisive throw. :pimp:

The next thing(s) he needs to work on is footwork and accuracy. The footwork being the key component of that. Get that down, the accuracy will improve.

He's also starting to "throw his receiver open" Was a big problem last year, then again his receivers last year didn't exactly get very open all that often.

Losing Keller will hurt him a little tho, really wish that didn't happen. Keller was going to be in for a BIG year with Tanne.

You can't have a pocket passer behind that O-Line.

In Madden terms that's been true for years.  That's why Jamarcus is the man for a job, he can throw an accurate pass 70 yards on a full speed roll out, turbo, while jumping.

Phil Simms on Russell...

"I do expect Russell Wilson to be a better quarterback than last year. I think I've seen signs of that already this year," Simms said. "I said (during Friday's game), 'Hey, I wouldn't be surprised if Russell Wilson's the NFL's Most Valuable Player.' There's probably only 10 guys in the NFL that can win the MVP, and of course most of them are quarterbacks. Well, why wouldn't Russell Wilson be one of those?

"You look at the numbers he put up last year, look at the team he's playing on, and knowing that they're going to make it even better for him this year, I would be shocked if he doesn't put up tremendous numbers. It's all there."

i like simms...but i think he's a little too high on wilson. i can understand him having a better year and taking a step forward, but mvp? stop.

and it's not hating on wilson, but with that defense alone, wilson cannot possibly be mvp unless he's putting up brady/rodgers/manning numbers. which he won't.

I always thought Paul was a level-headed guy. This guy is talking about trucking dudes

I guess JPZ is the only reasonable Minnesota fan on here

clayton's got new QB rankings up (i think they're new, at least).

top 10 in order:

rodgers
manning
brady
brees
ben
manning jr
ryan
flacco
romo
shaub

thoughts? he still giving the veterans the nod but makes a point that the young class is catching up.

Having problems with Shaub being top 10. I'd take Kaep/Wilson/RGIII/Luck over Shaub but I can't really put them in the top 10 after one year either. So I'd just switch Brady with Manning and that would be my list.

Rodgers
Brady
Manning
Brees
Ben
Eli
Ryan
Flacco*
Romo*
Shaub*

*Will fall out the top 10 if the young guys can repeat similar seasons to last year.

Thanks for posting DSA. +1.

Not that it's really a bad thing, but I think Clayton took the ultra-conservative approach. The thing with these lists is the weight people put on one thing or another, but overall, I still don't see Eli or Schaub as top 10, and while you can make the argument for Flacco, I'm with NT'er23...He should be jumped by one or a few of the young guys.

romo and eli belong in the top 10 imo. and i am flipping brady with manning sr although that margin is pretty negligible.

shaub probably isn't a top 10 guy at this point. flacco is borderline. neither of those stay in there after this year with the anticipated progression of some of the younger guys.

what about ben? still a lock at 5? would love to hear what DMX thinks there. i think he's probably dropping a bit now.
