NFL Quarterbacks Discussion thread: 2013 Edition

How did those players do without Peyton? Stokley, Clark, Pollard, Collie, Tamme went MIA after leaving Indy... Marvin didn't have a 1000 yard season until Peyton came to town and dude retired a cold... Edge had a couple 1000 yard seasons in Arizona @ a 3.5 YPC clip...

Hell, how did all of those WRs/TEs (Branch, Patton, Watson, Caldwell) do without Brady once they left the Pats? :nerd:

See where I'm coming from?

I'm not saying they weren't great players, because they were. However, you gotta remember... there's two parts to throw-and-catch. We've seen what happens to all these 'great receivers' once they go from a Brady/Manning/elite QB to chase that payday. Let's see the numbers Greg "Top Ten"Jennings puts up this year without Aaron Rodgers tossing him the ball.

(By the way, it's stats like these that make me appreciate the Larry Fitz/Reggie Wayne's of the world. John Skelton, Kevin Kolb, Curtis Painter tossing them the rock and still putting up 1k)

those guys were pretty mediocre, man. peyton made them all great.

Yes, he didn't play almost a decade with Harrison, Wayne, Edge, and Clark.

Come on guys.

Harrison had 3 years of trash without Peyton, Clarke? the guy has been on the back of a milk carton without him. couldnt block worth a lick and is the definition of a Manning product. Wayne had a down year without Peyton but showed that hes a beast with Luck. I also gave credit to edge when it was due, even though without manning his career was trash as well. The only pattern is -> with manning they are amazing, and without they aren't.

You guys are unbelievable. First he isnt good and now it is his teammates. :x

no one saying peyton isn't good. we know he's a beast. but the notion that he had to play with scrubs or average players around him is ridiculous.

harrison's first three years in the league weren't even close to bad. 800 yards and 6TDs a year isn't too shabby considering those colt teams and considering it was the mid 90s. reggie wayne is reggie wayne, of course. and dallas clark and marcus pollard aren't big time studs, but they were decent pass catching TEs.

am i'm not taking anything away from what peyton's done. he's as talented a QB as we've had in the last 15 years.

Edge James and Dallas Clark fell off because they got old.

30 year old players typically fall off.

Seriously, I don't get some of these replies.

Almost a full decade with the same core. Suddenly his whole career was Austin Collie and Jeff Tamme. :smh:

You dudes are naming 4 ******g players 4. And the only one to do anything so far without Peyton is Wayne.

You just over look all the stuff that people bring up about how them players fell off without Peyton.

Them WRs from the pats were players that worked hard. And the coaching staff never asked them to do things that they weren't capable of. Them pats teams were the Definition of TEAM. No superstars but everybody was about the TEAM and that's going to beat a team full of hyped up superstars all the time.

You dudes act like Branch was out there dropping every pass Brady threw to him or he wasn't getting open. He did all of that. He worked his *** of them years. So did the rest if the core.

But the thing that really won those championships was that defense. They always seemed to show up when it was needed. And that pats D as stacked!!! It's no way you can deny that.

Name me a player that Peyton made that wasn't old when they left Peyton or a barely in league when Peyton made him.

Literally no player that left Tom Brady cooked the same way.

Deion Branch still in his prime fell off cliff.

I can't think of any player like that with Peyton Manning.

Branch was a scrub when he left the patriots and went to Seattle....Brady made all them receivers look good except moss....moss was Brady first good receiver

Brady is working with straight up rookies this season...this **** is unheard of for a QB of his stature...bet Brady still has a good season....imagine if Brady had the broncos receiving core...1-3

Brady is (barring injury) going to make Amendola, Thompkins etc household names. I have no doubt Brady throws for 4,000 yes and 30 TSS with these mediocre weapons. He's that good. Period. He and Peyton are proof how vital a QB is and those saying "yea well it's a team effort" - shove it - when the team is sans their god-like QB the ship capsizes. End of story.

Amendola is not trash he just gets hurt a lot.

He's EXACTLY like Welker...

Last year I sat there and watched him torch my squad(********) for 10 catches in the 1st half.

So let me get this straight.

First round Marvin Harrison. #4 pick Edge James. First round Reggie Wayne. And first round Dallas Clark, only good cuz Peyton?

You implying they never did anything without him.............Marvin retired a Colt. Dallas was old and done. Edge blew his God damn knee out.

Edge is the second fastest RB to 9,000 yards in a career after Dickerson. Faster than Emmitt, Barry, or Walter. Soon after, he shredded his knee and was never the same.

Those guys would make ANY QB good. Not that Peyton doesn't blend in with them great, but stop trying to downplay his roster that played 8-9 years together. No QB's get that luxury.

Warner, Faulk, Bruce and Holt got like five. 8-9 is unheard of.

Absolutely forgot. Peyton's rookie year he had Marshall Faulk. They traded him to take Edge.  Also took Edge before Ricky. Yeah, he was only gonna be good cuz of Peyton.

Marvin two years pre Peyton, 137 catches, bout 1,700 yards, 14 TD's. And I have no clue who the QB was, and that's with Faulk on the team as the main weapon. So Marvin was not exactly a USC receiver not named Keyshawn out there.

CP I'm not trying to downplay anything.

Ok you threw all your stats out there. So you win this argument. The Colts would have still been the Colts without Peyton. No need to speak on it you made YOUR point.

Hey man, Brady had ten years of Marshall Faulk and Edge James too.
Marino had 10 years of Edge and Faulk.
Favre and Elway had full decades with 2 of the better RB's the NFL ever saw.

Oh, and with Harrison and Wayne too.

Yeah, he's had it rough his whole career.

They wouldn't still be the Colts without Peyton Manning. It's a give-and-take... he was helped by talented receivers and runners, and vice versa. However, it's obvious that Manning helped them more than the other way around.

To counter that I'd say Edge had a heck of a career DESPITE Peyton Manning. Remember, Peyton runs an offense exclusively out of the gun which hinders RB rushing production. I won't say Marshall Faulk though because he was only with Manning for, what, 2 years?

I have a question and please answer it honestly.

If you need to win 1 big playoff game, and you can choose any of the current 32 starting qb's, would Peyton manning be your number 1 choice?

Go look at branch's numbers on the pats and then seahawks....

per game number damn near the exact same with or without Brady. so Marvin Harrison was an accident? Clarke as well? Edge? Collie? Stokley? C'mon son.
