Because the top 3 have pretty much been studs since they started.

Brees was a good player but he didn't become great until he hooked up Sean Payton.

To me Brees is like the Steve Nash of the NFL
Tom Brady didn't really explode statistically until the 07 season. Its hard to deny that Payton boosted Brees, but I just can't leave him out of that group. Mike McCarthy and the GB coaching staff molded Aaron Rodgers into the QB they wanted, but I wouldn't hold that against them.

QB stats now make me sick. 4k is like what 2,500 used to be :smh:

This couldn't be any more truer.

sports evolve...eventually we'll cycle back to ground and pound (i think - although with the position of QB evolving the way it is, who knows if it'll ever be power-I and run it down your throats again). i don't understand why the aerial game being so prominent makes it tough to enjoy games. sure stats are all up, but it just means the bar has been raised on what's impressive nowadays. as long as people keep that in mind when comparing QBs of old to current QBs...i don't see the problem. still entertaining and still a thing of beauty when QBs slice up a defense.

and i know people think the game is being driven toward a focus on passing because it's sexier than watching a team run the ball 30 times a game, but is it really that much less entertaining? you still watch every sunday...from morning till night.

I honestly don't see it moving back to a run balanced league.

People are starting to notice your shelf life and career in the NFL is going to last alot longer as a WR than a RB.

definitely not going to go back to a type of deal with one back getting the ball 25-30 times game in and game out. but we're seeing tons of RBs by committee now. i think the stats make it look worse than it is, but if i remember correctly, the pats' throw-run ratio last year was not THAT out of whack. especially considering the numbers that brady puts up. i remember we talked about it in one of the WIR threads and we were all surprised when the stat about the pats throw-run ratio was posted.

^ that's a good point. especially a team like us. would be interested in seeing it broken down by Q...but you're probably spot on

Wait, so the Patriots come out of the gates bombing the football, but scale it back and run it in the second half now?  That must be new right?

49>50

Only Stafford, Brees and Romo chucked the ball more than Brady last year.  He average 40 attempts per game.

Sean Payton isn't throwing the football. He was definitely a helping hand as his eye in the sky, but he isn't what makes Brees elite. Any team that would go through turmoil like that and lose their HC for a full season would undoubtedly lose cohesion within their scheme and ultimately, play would look downgraded.

The one quarterback that's actually the exception to that is Peyton. But Brady without Bill and Rodgers without Mike for a full season and having that coach being plucked outta the building before the season would probably all see their numbers suffer.

That's why hes the 2nd best QB of all time.

Seems like Ridley got PLENTY of touches last year :nerd:

Hopefully the Pats can get a huge year from him. Theyre gonna need it  :smh:

Wonder what kind of year Adrian Peterson will have. I expect him to sniff that record again

:nerd:

Edit: Forgot what thread i was in. No derail intended

If AP only rushing for 1500 yards means the Vikings found a passing game, then I'll take that easy. If AP runs for 2k again, then I don't know if they make the playoffs.

Whats unclear MMG?
I dot understand the comment?

Are you saying the patriots are the ony team who does it?

Are you being sarcastic ?

We weren't talking about the Pats exclusively, the whole convo was in general terms.
You made a comment that teams come out bombing and tend to slow down and run the ball in the second half....which makes the ratios a little more even.

DSA agreed and said something to the effect of "especially with a team like the Patriots"

Then I was asking if this whole running the ball in the second half was something new that the Patriots did....because the Pats are notorious for still bombing the ball in the 2nd half, in spite of games being out of reach.

My dislike of today's game doesn't come from lack of running necessarily. It is more a result of all of the rules that punish defenders and protect QBs. I hate that DBs are so handcuffed and not allowed to play their position like I think they should. QBs don't slice up defenses because they are better than years past. It is because the rules today essentially guarantee it. I'd much rather only have the elite QBs be the ones getting 3k yards. The death of the running game is simply an unintended consequence of the rules

Well the 2012 Patriots were 4th in the NFL in pass attempts and were 2nd in the NFL in rushing attempts.

bingo

dland...2007 we ran it up time to time...but it's been overblown after that. most pats fans in fact grew EXTREMELY frustrated with bill obrien running the ball in situations where we needed points. mcdaniels found a pretty good balance last year in his first year back with us.

i would say we're quite balanced and like running up the score with the running game as well as the passing game

and 50 > 49...then, now, and always :pimp:

just like 23 > 22

Agreed. The rules today suck. The fantasy football era.

you have peyton manning and the colts to blame for taking away a DB's ability to play their position like before
