NFL Quarterbacks Discussion thread: 2013 Edition

I just need him to get hot for one post season  :smh: :frown: |I

And that's pretty much the only basis for Eli being in the top 10, in my opinion. It's why he's not in mine.

And I probably have Ben too low in my rankings, but it's up in the air right now with the emergence of others. Ben can easily have a top 10 year.

There's something to be said about denying the Patriots of 2 SB's. And yes I know its the ultimate team sport, but a team's QB touches the ball 50% the entire game and its not Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson. If Brady is Henry Cavill, then Eli is krypton. If he was a total slouch in the regular season I would understand a place somewhere 11-20.

I used to believe Romo was better, but we've all gotta adjust that by now, right?

Eli is a great QB in the same way the Giants have been a great team. No, it makes no sense on paper. Yes, they're wildly inconsistent. But somehow they've achieved what very few have been able to achieve and looked amazing while doing it.

Honestly, how is Eli not Top 10 in some of your minds?

Statistically, he's rarely in the upper echelon. There are a handful of QB's who are much more productive. It has been two exceedingly hot stretches by Eli and the Giants that coincide with their SB runs. There's also the individual success relative to team success and vice versa that needs to be looked at. The only thing someone like Romo hasn't done better than Eli is get hot at the right time.

clayton's got new QB rankings up (i think they're new, at least).

top 10 in order:

rodgers
manning
brady
brees
ben
manning jr
ryan
flacco
romo
schaub

thoughts? he still giving the veterans the nod but makes a point that the young class is catching up.

Having problems with Schaub being top 10. I'd take Kaep/Wilson/RGIII/Luck over Schaub but I can't really put them in the top 10 after one year either. So I'd just switch Brady with Manning and that would be my list.

Rodgers
Brady
Manning
Brees
Ben
Eli
Ryan
Flacco*
Romo*
Schaub*

*Will fall out the top 10 if the young guys can repeat similar seasons to last year.

Pretty much agree with all of that. Brady and Rodgers should probably be set in stone still further notice. Flacco, Romo, and Schaub could all flip flop one way or another, but I think Flacco could ascend skill wise, while Romo and Schaub would slide in skill due to age, but could take it upon themselves to get better at decision-making

I mean, he only lead a team ranked last in rushing and ranked 27th in defense to a division title and win it all, along with 15 fourth quarter TD's and 8 game winning drives (and could've been more).

I am SO far from a Pats fan, but I don't see the comparison between Brady and Manning. Brady has been better in every conceivable way, including winning. He could be the GOAT.

Manning could not be.

I haven't looked but statistically isn't Peyton ahead? Feels like he is but that may not be the case

Doesn't Brady's '07 season still beat out any of Manning's?  I haven't looked either

Don't like them enough to care I guess

Thanks for posting DSA. +1.

Not that it's really a bad thing, but I think Clayton took the ultra-conservative approach. The thing with these lists is the weight people put on one thing or another, but overall, I still don't see Eli or Schaub as top 10, and while you can make the argument for Flacco, I'm with NT'er23...He should be jumped by one or a few of the young guys.
What argument can you make for Flacco over Eli

The "what have you done for me lately?" argument. Flacco is coming off a career year, statistically, and got very hot down the stretch a lot like Eli did, that ended with a SB win.

Dude still hasn't thrown for over 4,000yd or over 25tds. Just can't see how you can rank him over Eli, Romo, and others.

Ah. Well I put TBs 07 and PMs 04 on the same level (along with Marino's 84). All ridiculous

You must not have heard of or seen Joe Montana champ............and if not him then John Elway, and if not him then Dan Marino.

I think TB will be ahead of Elway on my all time list when said and done. Joe Cool definitely best I've ever seen though, #1

I wouldn't put those on the same level as 84.

Everyone was throwin for 4K and 30+ TD's the last few years.

84 saw Dan go 5,084 and 48 TD's. Rating of 108.

Next closest in TD's was Krieg, with 32. No other QB had more than 28. Lomax and Simms the only other 2 to have 4K yards, Simms just barely at 4,000. Joe the only to have a rating over 100, the next QB was at 93.

Peyton was great in 04 at 121 rating, 49 TD and 4500 yards. 3 others had rating over 100. (plus a 98 and a 97) Culpepper had 39 TD's the same year, plus two others with 30+. 5 guys had 4K yards, two of those more than Manning did.

07, same. Brady with 117 rating, 50 TD and 4800. Two others with 100 ratings, another 98 and 97. 3 others with 30+ TD's. 6 others threw for 4K plus a 3966.

84 came in an era where no one was throwing the ball. Peyton and Tom both had theirs while everyone in the league was doin, they were just better of course.

Dan plays in 2004-07 and 6,000 with 55+ TD's would be his norm. No one can hit him, or jam his receivers? Forget it, you'd have no shot.
