Well, I couldn't find the last one, maybe it fell back to far or maybe I'm not good at using the search function. I've been finishing up thisseries I started for a class that I'm now going try shopping around to various galleries in Chicago (i'll keep you all posted on how that goes.). Rightnow I'm building a website to help that effort so I drum scanned my negatives and just finished color correcting and dusting them (maybe few need minortuning).

Also still writing the artist statement so I'll hold off on posting that, but anyhow it's a documentary on the "lifestyle" of a few myfriends who live next door to wrigley feild in Chicago. 10 photos, all 20x20" C-Prints shot with my Yashica Mat 635. Some of the titles are workingtitles, but series is called the Bacci's Crew (they have a brick outside wrigley feild that says Bacci's Crew and their names on it (its under the markgrace section if you're wondering.).

Some of them make allusions (in title, technical setups, or actions of the photos) to various other works/artists both in history and comtemporary that youmight not get but if you're wondering or curious i'd be more than willing to answer any questions...

Anyhow, anyone is welcome to post anything photography related (your own work (digital or film), questions (camera, photoshop, etc.) ,work of famous photographers you like, really whatever photography related things you want.)

<edited> to add the 'photography' tag to make searching easier.

How do you guys get your pics to come out so clearly? Theres no way youre shooting with a digital. I've got a 5.1 MP Canon S500 and my action shots never come out that well. Any help appreciated

Just a suggestion...perhaps all those posting pics should include the camera model they used so that people don't have to keep asking.

Well if you're using a dslr or slr you just need to shoot with a fast shutter speed and you can get action shots to come out crisp and clear. anything over 1/500 should get virtually anything other than maybe a plane or something that moves with that kinda speed.

If you have a point and shoot, if you can adjust the shutter speed than do that, but I believe there is the inherent problem of shutter delay because of how point and shoots work.

Also shooting b/w with digital is crazy, because 99.9% of digital cameras are simulating it by shooting in color and then digitally assigning values to various colors, so not only is it not accurate, but b/w film has something like 7 more distinct shades of grey. If you really still feel the need to shot b/w digital shoot in color and b/w it in photoshop, ps does alot better job than any camera can do right on the spot.

What's the story on the tent?

My friend lived in a tent ala anthony gonzales (minus the whole low-oxygen enviroment thing) for basically a semester. Used it mostly just sleeping, hanging out and he did stuff outside the tent, just spent alot of time in there. The tent came in way handy on 4/20... But my professor thought it was just some prop but it was there for like 4+ months. Stylistically I took a page from philip-lorca dicorcia with the way the flash is setup. He's probably my fav comtempory photographer (or jeff wall) and I really like his portraiture from technical stand point.

need some input..good or bad

The first picture strikes me as kinda ehh... maybe open up the lense and have like a narrow depth of feild. dont give us the whole picture 100% in focus.
The second picture is probably my fav as is, its a nice composition, maybe give us more of the picture, if thats possible.
I don't really like the 3rd, for a number of reasons..
4th, its great, but get the dog full frame, show us some of weird @#%$ in the background would be even better.
5th and 6th if I had to pick one it would be 6th way before the 5th, you cut off the guy in 5th and its an odd angle, as someone who used to skate and now is studying photography, I really like looking at old skate magazines from more of a photography perspective, look at what they do and take something from it, but dont just try and replicate it.
7th feels boring, maybe if you lose the sky and mountains, if you're going go for like a repetition shot shoot the repetition not everything else too.
8th is like this girl my last photo class (side note she was hot korean girl) but anyhow, you have to tell a story or get an idea across thats really hard with one pic, make it a series, or have the single pic be stronger with emotional value.

xanadu one whats up long time.

2 questions what were your setting for those pics
and i thought you were getting a diffrent camera

Just got a D40 this week.

Was playing around with this panorama yesterday at the place I was staying. The light changed a couple of times - sun moved out from the clouds as I was panning and you can see some ripples but it's not bad.

It's really long and thin though - I guess I tried to use far too big an area.

For action shots you have to increase your ISO, unfortunately, if you don't have a DSLR and have a point and shoot like me, increasing your ISO also increases your noise in your photos.

But an absolute must is to keep your camera as steady as possible, use a tripod is the #1 option, but if not try using the 2 second timer, it helps you avoid moving the camera down when pressing the shutter button.

This is one of my favorite sites for learning the basics of digital photography.

Also pick up Scott Kelby's The Digital Photography Book, highly recommended, I read it in a day.

More pics to come from my crappy camera.
