The "fisheye" lens is not really a lens, and it won't be clear, for instance. It's just 60 bucks worth of nonsense. Spent that extra money on a telephoto lens or a 50mm f/1.8.
thanks for the input, the 50mm f/1.8 doesn't auto focus on the D40 right? is it easy/fast to manual focus? I see that the af-s 50mm 1.4 and the af-s 35mm 1.8 are compatible with the d40 AF. What are the differences between the two and the one you mentioned aside from the auto focus option?
No, it doesn't You'll get used to focusing really quick and almost be able to get down the muscle memory. It's cool that you don't have to press down halfway to meter/focus and then shoot. I got mine for 48 bucks. The D40, D40X, and D60 are the only Nikon cameras as far as I know that won't AF on that lens. That being said, you're not limited to the AF ones on eBay. Mine is an Nikon AiS mount, I believe and no one else is willing to spend more than about 100 bucks on them. The D40 is a 1.5x crop so the 35mm is 52mm and the 50mm is 75mm. The 35mm and the 50mm open up just as wide, so the only difference is the lack of AF/metering and not being as wide as far as the 50mm f/1.8 v. 35mm f/1.8G is concerned. The 50mm f/1.4 is just stupid expensive for the most part. Most sellers want about $350 for them. The 50mm is a lens you're going to have to get at some point in your life-- It might as well be a kit lens because it's definitely a staple.
