Some nice pictures dude - nice and sharp

Trying out the entire lighting thing ...

I was so happy when I finish trying my 5D - 35L combo until tradegy stroke. As I was going down the stairs I slipped (1st time ever) the camera flew off myhands and hit the wall and about 6 feets down to the floor ... I turned it on and it still shoot but the lens seems to be making a little noise (maybe it wasthere but Im just noticing it) and I havent had time to see if it focus correctly or not ....

Anyways, here are the pictures I came home with

eb - on all shots thats the first thing i saw actually. and yet i also see a touch of oversharpening cuz some parts of the photo are jaggedy. ohand sorry to hear about ur mishap today.

yeah i was also thinkin about the resize but then, iono...it just looks jaggedy to me....

EB - but as far as lighting goes

#1 - not bad lighting but the dark spot underneath her looks like she just pissed there....NO OFFENSE TO HER...btw...
#2 - better light placement .. i suggest a tighter crop maybe?
#3 & 4 - nicely done. (although shadow is distracting - to me)
#5 - iffy on that one cuz you cant see her face.

overall good for ur first try.

btw what lighting did u use?

I really never shot people like this before, so I'll probably did over sharpen the pictures ... if you care to tell me which pictures you think areoverly done and point out what you mean I can corrected .. after all this was a 5 minute if that edit of my pictures ... the skin is also kind of soft, but ifyou blow the picture you will see there's still texture in the skin - with it being so small they tend to be a little softer than on normal size v//

#1 I'm not sure what you mean .. the carpet on the ground or the shadow right between her legs under the dress area?

#2 I do believe the pictures is a tad bit underexpose .. if I bring up the brightness and about 1/3 exposure - it should look better .. Will give it anothertry with different crop to see how it looks ... thanks

#3 and #4 do you mean the shadows behind her? I had a reflector but no one to hold it .. you think this would of have eliminated that?

#5 exactly the look I was going for - however is one of the ones that might be over sharpen? Also, see the skin, do you think is too soft? cause all of themlook like that, just that on this one I did heavy cropping therefore letting you see the skin better ..

Thanks

1 AB strobe not constant lighting ...

^ like on all the pics the edges are like jagged and not smooth. you can also really notice it in the hair and when the dark color meets light. like her shirtto her skin.

Couple of shots of my cousin that I did for her. I really don't get how you guys do portraits sometimes. I had to shoot black and whites for most justcause the color shots I was shooting were so bad........and all of these photos are heavily photoshopped, but hopefully it is subtle enough where itdoesn't look too bad. So far I have been using my kit lens so for but I feel like none of my photos are crisp and sharp and have a "feel" to it,especially with the outdoor ones. Some I shot I swear they look like they came from a point a shoot. I think I might purchase the 35mm and give that a go withthis whole thing.....

sorry eb. it was no offense intended on pic #1. it didnt look like carpet at first glance since it was softened too much. again i apologize.

anyways moving on

theres still some over sharpening on the new pic but its better.

were you trying to compensate for the skin softening by sharpening more?

but yeah the reflector wouldve been great...or it was shot during the day perhaps....

dude unlike some people here - you arent a random NTer and you have been playing with strobes for a good while now .. If I didnt value your knowledge or whatyou had to say, I wouldnt be asking in the 1st place ...

Plus if you think it look like piss then it might be good to fix it because someone else might have the same thought at 1st glance ..

I'm not trying to over compensate .. I'm mearly trying to sharpen to what my eyes see as acceptable .. on that second picture I dont see anything oversharpen at all .. so I'm trying to figure out if its my computer or something ..

I have a 5-1 reflector but like I mentioned before i didn't have no one to hold it and bounce it back and I didn't want to add more light to the otherside bcause it would of have been to much .. Also the sync speed of the 5D is 1/200 so I had to wait until it was darker out becaue I don't have any NDfilters ...

I took to hits that day .. one from my AB tippin over and slamming to the floor then the Camera .. still don't know how to test to see if something iswrong with it
