Basically, I went to the local thrift store yesterday looking for a unique, small, interesting, toy or figure of some sort with the intentions of photographing it and passing it on to the next NT'er (that frequents the photograph thread often) for he/she to photograph and continue to pass on (have this little witch go on tour)...

Is anyone interested? Unfortunately I didn't find nothing really "cool" at the thrift store BUT I did find the following on my desk...

I understand it's small (and I placed the paper clip for comparison) so I realize most pictures might end up being "close-ups" BUT you will just have to get creative. If it helps the bottom is a magnet too.

The other concern some might have is shipping cost, hence why I thought this small item wouldn't be bad because it can probably be mailed in a small padded envelope (probably can be reused) with 2-4 stamps, I'll confirm. Last concern, I can see some of yall having is... letting the next person know your address but honestly only the next person will know it and it isn't like anyone can't look up anyone's address (if that makes sense).

Let me know, if anyone is down, wack idea or "should be fun" idea, or maybe a better toy? Let me know.

That's a tight IDEA especially if we can get this joint overseas and back .... HOT!!!!

I see kick was kidding and I'm glad because the only way we know where that little guy has been at is by showing him with some sort of landmark of the specific city/state/country ...

So make sure you take one before sending him out ... lol

That would be awesome.
Anyways let us know who you send it to first, and then lets make a group for it on flickr, so we can add pictures to that group. this should be fun

Cool Cool Kick will get it first, he provided his info and I exchange PM w/ him. I told him I plan to take my pic Fri/Sat. and mail the following day. Iwill share my picture here, tell everyone I sent it off (and how much it cost), and we keep it moving.

I appreciate folks being excited about it... let's see if we can get it moving around the country and then we will see what happen. In the meantime we canshare the pics here and if it picks up maybe we can consider a Flickr group but its just an additional place to check and admin. We know how the assignmentthread went, no harm, I enjoyed but things dont seem to work well outside of this thread.

Last, is the (witch) toy cool? If not I can find something more interesting this weekend at the thrift shop or flea market... let me know.

hey NT, i wanna buy my first DSLR, so what would you guys recommend for a begginner? canon rebel xs? does it record video?

I know I'm late to this thread but I would appreciate any advice any NT'er can offer.

Lately, I've been wanting to purchase a Digital SLR. I've narrowed down to Nikon, the D60 or D90 based on reviews I've read online.

I'm basically a amateur/beginner. I've only owned point and shoots before. I did however take photography my senior year of high school.

I have $1000 to play with, its my college graduation gift from my parents. Anything more than $1000, I would need to save it myself.

What would you guys recommend? My main usage of the camera would be for hobby/fun.

If your going to get a d60 for fun, then just go with a d40, which is basically the same thing with few exceptions and you will save yourself somemoney. then with the d90 is a more advanced camera then the two and has more features such as video.

I don't think that model records video.. I'd recommend the d40 for a starter (i shoot nikon)

If you want video go with the d90 but its more advanced and bigger and a lot more money

the 35mm f/1.8 is in stock <--- CLICK

And if we do make a flickr group for the figure i'll be glad to make it and monitor it. I hope we can keep this going for the rest of the 09.. even if ithits certain people more than once.. after we get landmarks and what not we can come up with a more random theme to shoot it

BTW.. this assignment reminds me of the Gnome Prank andthe Flat Stanley project

looking into purchasing my first prime lens. i have a d200. which would be the better lens to start off with. im looking at the 50mm or 35mm F/1.8?

alot of my friends use gimp and say its just like PS so try it? If not download the free ps trial from adobe.com and then do it

I would that thought that third one was PS'd. Thats that "vintage-like tint" I keep seeing on certain photos and I haven't been able to quitepull it off. You remember the exposure settings on that one?
