I was considering getting the Canon EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 III or the Canon Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II. I'm on quite a tight budget and was wondering which would be best for my needs.

For portraits id get the 50mm F/1.8, im not sure about the 28-90mm.

I know 150mm is considered ideal for portraits in medium format so 85mm for dslr or 35mm sounds about right... And by portrait most of the time thats inreference to like a bust portrait so if you don't want to go that tight on your subject a 50mm prime might be better...

Been meaning to get out to this bridge for a while - it's only a few miles from my house and I've always like the shape. It's just over 200 yearsold and was pretty revolutionary at the time.

I should have been a couple of hours earlier as I couldn't quite get rid of the overexposed lights on the far stanchion - without making the rest too dark.If the sky had a little more light in it it would have been better. This was about 8:30 and a 6min exposure at f/22. If you look carefully you can see thelights of a train crossing too - about 5 mins into the exposure so I wasn't starting again as it was really cold.

I don't really contribute this post as much with actually photography as a probably could or should for a number of reasons, but anyhow, here are couple ofb/w photographs of the Queensboro Bridge I took when I was in NYC in early January.

^^Hopefully I'm gettin a rebel for my B-day, which is in a couple of weeks.
NIce stuff ya'll. A 50mm lens is cool for portraits or maybe go a bit longer so you don't have to go too close to your object, although don't ghetone too long, it wont have as much of a plastical feel to it.

Whoa whoa whoa... Lisa Kaye?! Dope shots mikesumoto.

Anyways, How do you achieve bokeh like this?

Are there specific lenses to do such things? I know its possible to achieve the same effect with a long focal length, but you'd have to be standing 30 orso feet away. Are these the kind of pictures that take $1000+ lenses to make?

thanks for the feedback on my pics.
jaw knee , fongstarr, seattle 206, and mikesumoto - dope.

more sneaker pics.

I believe he uses the a Canon 50mm. Save the images to your computer, open up their properties and some pictures will show the details.
