Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

thanks for the replies.

couple other questions . .

do you guys recommend purchasing the warranty from fotoconnection (cheapest place i've found a d40x for)?

and i got two choices: d40x body only or d40x body 18 - 55 mm.

i was thinking i would just get the d40x and purchase a better lens . .

and do you guys go with different brands on lenses? or stick with your camera's brand?

Yeah do not get a cheap plastic $9.99 one. Trust me bad things has happened that I do not wanna
discuss. haha.

As long as it is sturdy and and can hold your camera go for it. Tripod is a must especially if you are going
to be shooting skate shots like that.

Peace.

What's the price difference? - it's often not worth it. The kit lens is pretty good anyway and if you're not saving much it would be worth having.

The D40x is now discontinued so you should be able to get some good deals on one.

i've been using this dynex tripod and it has worked fine. only $49.99 at bestbuy.

me anymore. I would say lay off or chill from using HDR now, but thats me bro. Good stuff nonetheless.

Peace.

word i appreciate it..
i only did hdr on the rolling shots.... so all my shots look hDR?

ive been practicing off camera flash stuff....and since i only have 1 flash...i compose 2 shots with diff flash placements then combine em....

thats probly why my shots look all hdr....

Curious, how much does a set up like that cost? lights, backdrop + camera.
also, can someone point me in the right direction for more info on basic stuff like that online?
I'd like to do something like that for my garage, if anything just to take pictures of my niece and nephew.

how do you get good pictures off a really bad camera?
haha right now i am in digital photography class, but im not as enthusiastic about my pictures now adays, because they come out really bad. Even if it is agood shot and it looks really good when i take a shot, i want to blame the camera.
its a canon powershot A520. they gave it too us when we applied for the class. gotta return it tho, no tears shed for that.
any help is appreciated i have been keeping up with the pictures in the thread, nice job

Exposure, exposure, exposure... I mean clearly you're never going to get like gallery worthy print from a point and shoot camera but exposure isfundamental as far as technical things go. Otherwise I would say composition or more to the point an ability to compose well is clearly going to effect whetherphotographs from "really bad camera" become good and good in the real sense not the trite gimmicky sense. That camera probably at very minimum has anability to adjust on the exposure so I would just bracket every shot (i.e. where you shoot the normal exposure then + and - exposures and then look at themlater and figure out which is the best). Also just in reference to a camera like that only has 4mp (so says google) I would resample the image in photoshop todownsize it to increase the pixel rate (so essential put the same information, in smaller space) (if you don't know how to properly do that let me know). Also try not using zoom either digital or optical zoom, that will help with sharpness as I'm sure the camera is sharpest when it's not zoomed in (if itneeds macro function to focus, it's not sharp). As far as just an easy method of composition (!$$% the rule 1/3s) just level your horizon and shoot. lethorizontal proportion build itself with inherent just natural level compositions...

^^^Man....you know me and panys.

I like it....even thought it is what it is....(a cityscape)...but I think that is the best pay to capture a cirty anyways. The sun gives it a nice focal pointand there is something nice about the purple/blue color way with the orange/red add a nice contrast and gives it a more surreal look.

Berlskee.......the first pic you took looks likes Mars or something....sick!

dunk r nice: thanks. your pictures always come out nice and sharp.

fongstarr: thanks. that's what i thought too

^Just a though, peice of advice if you will. With food photography (which is alot bigger and often times more complex than you'd think) I think you veryharsh lighting detracts or doesn't really give a whole lot of appeal to otherwise what looks like and I'm sure is good food. I would either soften thelight, like a lot or try shooting under natural light. I mean you're never going to get the warmth of film with a dslr but the cold intense light you havegoing there isn't appetizing persay...

). I've only shown it to a couple sneakerheads (one of my friends called it"WDYWT elevated to an art form"

but generally sneakerheads and non-sneakerheads who have seen it have reacted quite well so I figured i'dshare it. The vast majority of my photography functions with text and as graphic designer I like formating that text and it's really long horizontally so Idon't really want to mess up the look of this thread making a scroll bar across the bottom thats miles long or anything so I'll just put up a link toit.
