Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

anyone know if these lenses are any good?

- Tamron 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical Autofocus Lens
- Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens

I have the D40 BTW....and I have a 50mm 1.8d and the 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6g right now.
I love how the 50mm

^ if you are getting lenses in those ranges, get the versions with constant f/2.8. The lenses that you mentioned are pretty slow, and having a faster lenswould open up many more possibilites for you.

Here are some pics I took last night of my friends' IM Basketball game at Haas Pavillion (playoffs). They aren't the greatest, as I didn't havethe best lenses for indoor sports (Canon 70-200 f/4L and Canon 35mm f/2), but they turned out pretty decent. If it were up to me, I would have used a Canon70-200 f/2.8L IS and a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, but the Tammy will come in time...

A scanagram (probably not the technical term but like photogram with a scanner so..) as I scanned the $50 (didn't have a $100 on hand) but technicallyphotography nonetheless. One of many vinyl sleeves I'm making for my graphic design final. probably will post some of the others that are photography basedlater as they get finished.

Think I might buy a scanner for doing stuff like this, came out real nice. Sorry about [emoji]169[/emoji] tag, usually don't like doing that, but this just struck me assomething some moron would try to steal for some absurd reason.

just took a couple of pics with the new lens..i definitely need a tripod. My hands are too shaky.

This is picture is pretty blurry...any suggestions on how to take better pics with out a tripod?

Yo Ebay.....dope sleeve but the only crit that I might have (and I know you mentioned you didn't have it) but you have to use a $100 bill...and not justone, but at least a couple of different ones if you have it. It gives it a little bit more authenticity since all the $50 bills have the same crease in themand serial number, etc. Nice use of white space on the back....but I am wondering how the front would look in a different color. Not sure if it would lookbetter or not but it's an idea. It just seems like the words don't contrast as well. But pretty straight forward concept for the song......it worksthough.

The only way is to either increase the aperture (smaller f number) or increase the ISO and then you can reduce the shutter speed. You don't want to beshooting any faster than the inverse of your focal length - so if you're shooting at 50mm you should use 1/50 (probably 1/60 though on your camera) orfaster. The problem with both of those is that you either introduce more digital noise or you lose the depth of field from using a small aperture.

The only problem with doing that is that you then lose the cool effects of water being really smooth and stuff - you need a couple of seconds for that andobviously then a tripod.

Some of the new lenses - e.g. the VR from Nikon or the IS from Canon - have features that minimise the effect of camera shake on the exposure - so you canshoot a couple of stops slower and get away with it.

Nothing beats a tripod though.

I thought about using more than one bill but I was thinking little %!+# like that is not really the point, authenticity is cool but good design is key.And more to the point $100 vs $50 if you look at the album art inside Reasonable Doubt there are stacks of money and they're in $20s and $10s so I guessJay or whoever did his album art wasn't doing it like that then, and neither am I. I mean I probably could have gone to a bank and gotten a couple $100sbut I had that $50 on hand. But as for the contrast I see what you're saying but I got a test print done this morning and viewing files on a computer forcontrast is completely different, I'll probably photograph the physical sleeve later and you can see for yourself.

bayareakickz,
Some of them are kinda crooked. Like that last one is very crooked. the vitamin water one doesn't really do a whole lot for me as you can probably guessyourself. and the one before that, I like the idea of having blurred objects injected in the frame but that might be bit much. The first one is far and awaythe best, I wish you'd taken a step or two back and leveled it right to left. It works in basically I think the methodology I explained about leveling theframe front to back so you're shooting straight across with the subject, it's just maybe a little tight and crooked, but seems more on the right trackthen the others...

i'm likin the idea of that shot, That guy Max.. i like your last two shots as well, Dunks206.. also, can anybody give me some c&c on my previous post, and any hints on achieving the type of lightingretroshoes98 had on his xbox 360 set up shot? huge thanks in advance!

Soo, when are we going to start having themes that we have to shoot, and then post here?
I remember ebay saying he had something in store, but he was just waiting for the perfect time.
When will the day come?

^After my finals are done (may 9th) and I shoot something for it myself (shortly after my finals). I've talked to a couple NT'ers about it (probablywill run it by a few others as well). It's definitely going to happen, you'll just have to wait and see...

Hey guys great pics! btw I just got a D60 and it came with the stock 18-55mm Lens but it's a VR! I already have a 18-200mm VR lens so would you guys say Ishould sell it and get maybe a 70-300? or keep it?

The pics were taken with my iphone, so no real skill involved but it is a unique thing here where I am at. It is called a Haboob and I thought you guys would enjoy.

There's probably not a lot of point in having both - although I did read somewhere that the 18-200 does suffer a little at the wide end - below 55mm. The18-55 could be useful if you are shooting wide stuff.

I wouldn't get a 70-300 - too much overlap with what you already have. Better going either for a prime lens or something really long. IMO.

Saying that, I've also read that if you have to have one lens the 18-200 is the one to get. It's a pretty decent compromise if you don't want tocarry tons of stuff around.
