Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

Just got my D40, still need to learn how to use it but im a big fan of the crisp, clear focus and blurry background pics, any tips on how to do this better?Really quickly as well, any tips on doing a panoramic shot?

CC welcome!

I thought this shot was cool, woudve been better if the coke label was facing me straight.

I thought this was ok too, both pics were nothing special just point and shoots that I liked alot.

What kind of zoom? Mid-range zoom (i.e 28-75mm) or telephoto (70-200/300mm) or all in one (i.e 18-200mm)

Anyways, some recent stuff. Please critique comment, and please add my flickr!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/15316475@N04/

...unless its a Jazz show. Then she's a damn party animal.

You all have some good talent. I'll just add a few of my own shot with my Canon S3 in DC. I dont own any good post production progams so if anyone knows ofany that arent too expensive, let me know. Any coments and criticism appreciated.

Pic I took at a demo today of Cab. Not the best but I finally got him styled out on a invert.

And check out this photo of someone else on Fatlace. I am really pissed that SF had such crappy weather yesterday cause I really wanted to get some fireworkshots. This one pic in NYC is just awesome!

^^^nice. i was thinking about taking some firework pics yesterday also but I was carrying a crap load of stuff already since we were bbq'ing at Foster Cityand didn't feel like lugging a camera and tripod around.

wow theres some amazing pics in here. my new lens should be coming in soon so i'll contribute before too long!

Gimmemo that 3rd pic is gorgeous

CAn I get your input on the d60 vs XTi. Its gonna be primarily for a hobby and vacation pics.

Let me know. Thanks

trying to invest in a good fish eye lense for the canon rebel xti dslr any recomendations and prices, I've seen some on ebay and other sites for like 60bucks, but i wasnt sure if they go for that cheap so school me nt.

also a wide angle lenses for mostly taking pictures of cars shoes landscapes

^^ Those aren't fish eye lenses, those are ghetto swapmeet attachments.

Anyways, for a wide angle...try the Canon 17-40 f/4L or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 . The Tammy has the advantage of a constant f/2.8 aperture (good shotsindoors/general low light), but the Canon is a Canon L series lens.

reretrome , check my blog all i shoot with is the canon 15mm fisheye

i have the xsi

the distortion is not that great which i kinda like

i know the tokina 10 17 will be alot more of a fisheye look

Anyway, question for the more experienced/knowledgeable peoples: Is there an ideal focal length for shooting portraits? What about aperture?

i'm curious how you photographers carry around your bulky cam's all day, that wasn't retorical. Personally that is the only reason i dont carry itwith me all the time. I have a tiny WESC bag i use and sometimes an actual case i bought but its quite annoying.
