Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

So... after finding out that Canon lenses zoom in counter-clockwise instead of clockwise like Nikons lenses, I kept wondering why the hell it was like that.

Tonight, I have come to the conclusion that instead of taking you closer to the image, like a Nikon lens, Canon lenses bring the image closer to you.

Amazing.

Good night.

What the?.....

Hmmmmm.....I could write a whole essay on my thoughts on how I feel about this thread, but I'll just but out of it let the fire just burn out. I kind ofwish we were all in a classroom atmosphere though.....I think things would be said and done a lot different.

This was shot with my 50mm as well. Good lens for it's price so I think it is a no brainer to just use and practice on.

I would love to read that essay.
I would also like a classroom like setting. I remember before summer started a lot of people were thinking about having some type of organized themes thatpeople had to shoot each week.
I also remember ebay saying he had something in the works, but had to wait to finish his finals.
But it never happened.
Maybe we can try to start some type of themed projects or something.

im looking for advice on a " inside the club " combo lens and flash for my xsi

trying to take good pics in the club what do you guys think ?

thanks !!

+1 on the themed project, i supported the idea last time but never got started

i think would be a great way for us (alot of beginners) to participate and learn from, share secrets and photography tips, get this thread popping again

I think I was the one that brought up the idea, but then eBay said he was working on something similar but better so I never really followed through with it.Shouldn't be too hard.

While I have no interest in posting in this thread anymore sharing either my work or knowledge for a number of reasons. Since you brought it upI'll share it with you and feel free to do with it what you will.

Title: I AM A CAMERA

Text:
As photographers we all have one thing in common, a relationship with our cameras. Some of us shoot film on multi thousand dollar cameras and some shootdigital with hundred dollar point and shoots. That even as some are novices and some are quite in advanced in our photography practice and that shows thephotographs we produce, we are all photographers the same. And so while the photographs we produce, whether digital or print, differ greatly the idea of ourtie to our tool of our practice is the same.

Photography is absolutely the most modern and contemporary of the fine arts and it's been said that it's the democratic art, something almost anyonecan participate in with incredibly little money or time and within the practice photography exists a number of relationships, i think the most important ofthose relationships is the role of the photographer and his/her camera. It's the tool of our practice. Photography isn't the act of recreating truth orfact but perception, the perception of photographer via camera.

So in essence I'm proposing we each depict through single image our own relationship with our camera something we all as photographers have.

___________

Basically I wanted to do an internet based "group show" juried by some of the older more experienced photographers here who's work I enjoy.Perhaps create a thread with the finished collective of work so that more NT'ers than just people who take a look at this thread would see a sort of"best of" NT'er photography that would have some semblance and not be so utterly random.

And I wanted the process to be very transparent (but blind so as no biases) so you could all understand how someone or group goes about editing photographs inthe sense of good/bad playing them together all with your own photographs but as group and by some reasonably experienced in the practice of building seriesand self-editing a number of photographs into finished bodies of work.

But I got busy with other work and I didn't really like the direction of this post and felt like I changing it or trying to change it wasn't going tohappen, people are going to have this post be what they want it to be and it's unfair for me to want to be something else helpful as I might think it wouldbe.

I have my own image for this "concept or theme" of 1000% sculpture of my own camera (Hasselblad 503cxi) made of cardboard and plaster and paint thatI got a friend to model (all you can see is their legs as the figurative "tripod") walking around downtown Chicago where I live, but as it'sphotograph of series of work I've yet to show anywhere I'm not interested in showing it to NT or anyone and/or further explaining the photograph at themoment.

hmm gotta get used to taking a few steps back, if u got the kit lens try shooting at 50mm range all day haha

other than that, the lens is cheap, alot of ppl say its must-have, great @ low lights, fast, good DOF.

should invest in lens hood if u get it, Devan reminded me of this cuz of flares

anyone else?

a 50mm lens would also be good for some portrait shots too right?

because all i got is the kit lens, and the 50mm-- and one of my buddies wants me to snap his senior photos.
