Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

For some reason, I get the feeling that most of the guys on here value camera bodies far more than the lenses. I can understand that most of the guys here arejust starting out but you should know that it's the lens that really makes the difference. If you look around you'll see some amazing photos taken withthe oldest of camera bodies. Shoot, my Rebel XT has pretty much been buried in my camera bag since I got my 40D but I took a couple of shots recently with myEF 50mm f/1.4 and was impressed by the sharpness and quality of the image it produced.

In short lenses > camera bodies. I'm a Canon user so I'm not sure how Nikon bodies are limited to certain lens mounts, but rather than consideringto buy a new body, consider getting a better lens.

Right now, I'm considering to go all prime. I've got the 85L II and am hunting for a 35L and a 50L to complete my prime 'trinity.'

I agree for the most part but if your making the jump from like an XT all the way up to a 40 or 50d then thats a jump worthy enough to upgrade. But upgrading from an XT to an XTi or XSi would not be worth it. The xxd series would be a bigger jump just cause of the higher ISO capabilities, more FPS etc.But yes the lenses are a lot more important then the camera body itself. I'm real happy with my XSi now and have no plans on upgrading. If i do it'llprobably be to full frame but thats years from now.

I can't remember if I posted this... Took it a while ago and just found it in my photobucket.

All the Rebels have been great so i don't doubt that this one's any different as well as the kit lens it comes with so if you get it as a kityou're solid.

I agree. I got myself a 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor lens and a 18mm-200mm f/3.6-5.4 Sigma lens and I can see a huge difference the two when it comes to clarity andsharpness. I noticed that when shooting with my 18-200 on aperture priority it comes out a lot darker so I am forced to shoot with a higher ISO (which I hatebecause I normally shoot at 200 ISO only), I dont know if its just me but shooting with a high ISO creates a whole lot of noise

.

I currently have 3 different lenses the 2 that I already mentioned and the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my D40. I'm still pretty new at this (shootingfor about 2 years now) I didn't really learn about f stops, iso's, exposures, and all that hoopatiebooblas of photography until about 6 months ago. Ican honestly say that once I got some of the basics down...my pictures started coming out better (still not great...but better IMO) I still have a whole tolearn. Well I've been thinking of either upgrading to D90 or a D200 or just buying more lenses...or just buying more lenses.

any suggestions? I want a 35mm f/1.8 or better. (at least a 1.

, a macro lens...i think it was 17-24mm wide angle with macro I have to look it up?

BTW any C&C from my previous post? thanks.

I Just Got Lucky-

I really like your style. It's very simple, yet elegant. You frame your photo's quite well. Your skyline pics are very nice, however, the macro shotsneed some work. There is not much there that captures the imagination and not too much that sticks out. Keep working at it though. Maybe one day i'll seeyour work at the Getty when I go

Thanks for the response, any recommendations for lenses instead of the kit lens?

^^^^You kind of have to find out what kind of shooter you are.....night shots, wide, action, macro, portraits, etc. I say fiddle with the kit lens first andshoot a bunch and go from there. I think someone recommended that on here and granted I am still using a kit lens, it has given me a good idea what kind oflens I want....which is something that is wide that takes good low lit shots. It takes a while to know the exact lens that you want......at least for me it is.

Since we're posting gear...picked this up about a month ago for my K200D.

Vivitar Series 1 70-210 3.5 Version 2 by Tokina. Metal body, push-pull, MF only. It's in excellent shape for a 25 year old lens. Same guy who sold me thisjust let his Tamron 17-50 go for $310

. If I hadn't bought some newbowling balls for tourneys, I'd have snatched that up. Oh, well.

Anyway...some sloppy pics. Set the subject to 5.6 to help make the pic a little sharper

i like to shoot wide angle and is good in low light. what would be a good lens for an xti? i already have a 50mm and happy with it but i want one thats wide

^^^ thanks for the C&C.

As for me I like shooting wide, in macro, making panos, taking pics with a lot of depth of field and I just started messing shadows and lighting (which IMO ishard to do.) I'm having a hard time learning how to compensate with the sun out and makes a lot of my pictures that i take during the day overexposed.

So no answer??

So I went ahead and joined the SLR club - SMH at forgetting to buy a Card!

Here's my new baby - Hopefully this is the last time I have to use my celly .. lol

How is the kit lens for the XSi????

I had this dumb dream of selling my XTi and G9 to get that but realized I would be getting the same damn model camera except with a bigger screen and liveview. Hmmmm.......
