Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

Well the color to b/w in photoshop is an issue of the contrast management in photoshop being superior to that of the camera's computer.

Shooting in jpeg vs raw is an issue that jpeg are degrading files. i.e. every time you edit a jpeg orginal information from the orginal photograph is compromised, whereas raw remains the same, so you can effectively edit it i.e. change it from color to b/w, resize, whatever...

The common term for files that don't degrade is lossless. A tiff is probably the most common..

Hmm looking into buying a yashica tlr. Going to have full access to hasselblads next year.

It's by far the best entry level medium format. I know people with Holgas and they're pretty much junk... Either that or Mamiya 7 rangefinder is another solid entry level medium format film camera...

The TLR parallax will drive you insane though it you're really big on really controlled compositions... But you can't go wrong with a Yashica or Rollei or if you want to spend alittle more a Mamiya c330. but the parallax made me crazy hence why I got the hasselblad.

I would stay away from Seagull TLR's its a step above a Holga...

That's by far other the smallest camera i would consider buying... way good. This girl I know has one that thing is awesome.

Yeah i have a holga. Its okay but i want somthing a step higher. Yeah i think ill go with the yashica. How are kiev?

Here is a panoramic i did with the 10.5mm

And here is a single picture taken with 10.5mm

There is a link for it for $630 with a memory stick...
The thing thats great about it's from just playing around with it is its essentially an slr(w/out changable lens) but in P&S construction.. i.e. it has real lense thats with an actual shutter and not a full range of f-stops but quite a few and the lense actually closes down and opens up vs. most point and shoots a that simple have computer simulate it.. And it's a leica so the thing is super nice quality...

But the great thing about medium format for me atleast is the leaf shutters.. I do mostly documentary portraiture so I use as many as 3 flashes and i have used strobes (my school's strobes) but ability to sync at any speed is a god send...

^ ebayologist said it all. This camera is strait quality. Take Great pics. Ill try to get some pictures taken with that camera tomorrow.

Have you tried Kiev cameras ebayologist?

Thanks for the info but that price is a bit high.

^ I just was curious so I looked on ebay. Keiv bootlegs everything they bootleg contax that looks like a leica M7... very similar to that mamiya range finder 35mm you have.

I don't know. I wouldn't spend money something I know is a bootleg of something else... and based on the prices not a good one.

If you want a cheap medium format I'd go with either tlr or a rangefinder and unless you want to use one of your other camera's to meter your going to need a light meter for most medium format cameras... The only medium format I can think of that has built in light meter is Yashica 124-G. It might be the best Yashica TLR also probably the most expensive.

Probably the cheapest serious medium format I can think of is Mamiya 645. I know 2-3 people I goto school with that have Mamiya 645's... I had prof with one too but she hated the thing. and she also has like 20+ cameras so...

DjBooduh2o9 - Do you like that hand grip? I'm thinking about getting one for my D80 dunno if it's worth it.

^Yeah, No prob...

Also if you think you're going to be able to deal with the parallax of a TLR and roll with a camera for a good min. Then you might consider a Mamiya c330 or c220, there are lenses that attach to the bay mount on the current lense that seem significantly more available than like yashica one's like telephotos, wide angle, etc... Also c330 has a bellows you don't run into the issue of the reasonably distant focal range that's minimum about 3 feet with any medium format without a bellows or lense tube.

booduh, i was looking to buy a leica but my friend told me theres a panasonic with the exact same lens for way cheaper. Whats the difference between the Leica and Panasonic?

Ebay, how do you guys clean your lenses?

I use glasses cleaner and glasses cleaning clothing. Its alcohol based so its virtually the same thing you'll get at camera store and since I wear glasses I have both items readily available. But all my cameras are 100% mechanical (no electronics in them) so there is no issue of shorting something anything like that but you can use the same stuff for digital just be sparing with the liquid.

Yo ebay quick question about b/w...

When you were talking about shooting in color, then converting to black and white, would it have a big difference if i just kept shooting in jpg rather than raw?
