Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

i understand what you all are saying. but a lot of my images only see photoshop to resize them i dont really touch images up.

i'm not trying to shoot "photography" shots.. like "art" i'm mostly taking pics to record an event. i'm not necessarily tryingto make them look pretty.

the only other lens i'm thinking about getting is the nikkor 20mm wide angle

and i dont know how to tune the vividness down. i tried

Word man. expired film has been my new it thing lately. i bought tons of it and i'm started to get addicted. i was on that black and whitefilm tip for a while, so this is a good way to transition back into color film.

at the incident. I remember when I first got my Nikon FE, i loadedin the film wrong while thinking i was doing it throughout the day taking dope shots

Quick question: Is there any way to eliminate reflections while photographing cars? Like any filters or anything because lately I've been into that, butreflections seem to be interfering with the results.

I am getting so much crap for this camera. My boss here at work that is into SLRs even told me I was dumb. I know I should have gotten a lens or even the 40Dbut I just held the camera at the store and I just bought it. Wasn't a impulse buy cause I did tons of research but still, I still feel kind of uneasyhaving this. Oh well....everything is said and done so I'll see if I still hate or will love Nikons.

All you Nikon lovers better show me what you got so I can feel loved having this thing! Haha!

i haven't ever done car shots before, but i am guessing it's not going to be possible to eliminate reflections, since the mirror-likefinish of the paint is inherent. it's not like water, where you can use a polarizer to reduce glare/reflections, since for water the reflections are notinherent. you can try though, i guess. i may work or may not, i have no clue actually, haha. just buy a used circular polarizer, it'll come in handyeventually anyway!

yea i would have recommended starting out on one of the smaller/easier to use ones, but if you've done your research and know all yourfunctions and are serious, then it should be no problem. it's basically like starting out on a geometro versus a g35, and you decided to choose the moreexpensive ones with more functions. it'll have a higher learning curve, but at the end it will have more "payoff" in terms of what you can dowith it, if that makes sense.

i'm guessyou're asking this though - as mentioned briefly previously i started out on holga and now own the yashica, same as the other guy you mentioned earlier.

Well, I came from an XTi so the jump to a D90 shouldn't be that grand but I am game for learning. I think that is kind of the whole fun of it but if Iremember right with my XTi, it started out not fun at all but it slowly turned into something fun. I got nothing but time so I just have to form sometechniques in some sorts. I am going to try and explore forms of shooting that I am not too familiar with like portraits and some set up shots with unnaturallighting (sort of what Quick is doing). My progression level with shooting has been stunted for some reason....but things should be cool and it is something tojust do in 2009 and so on.....

Here are a few pics from my trip to Europe earlier this year. These were taken with a Canon SD750 (alot of them using the ISO-color feature) and then slightlytouched up in PS. I just got graduated to an XSI so can't wait to start learning more. Any C & C is appreciated.

how did u get the effect on the lights? a setting on the camera? or some kind of filter?

Lights do that if you shoot with a small aperture - which you would be doing anyway for a landscape shot. It's a nice effect sometimes.

The problem with those settings is that they don't just change the saturation - they change the contrast and things too so it's easy to lose details.

Changing the settings is like all other Nikons (AFAIK) - you go to the menu>shooting menu (the green camera icon)>optimize image and then you can choosedifferent ones there.

If you want to adjust it rather than just using the standard vivid then you need to select the custom option and then finetune it.

I've seen this suggested as a good way to set it up but a lot of it is personal preference. This is from the link that someone else posted earlier andwould seem a sensible starting point:

Image Sharpening: Auto (default).
Tone Compensation (contrast): Auto (default). The D80 automatically adjusts its contrast and dynamic range to each and every shot. It works great.

Color Mode: IIIa (three-a). This is critical: this gives brighter colors than the default of I. No, color mode II is pronounced "two" and not to be confused with 11 (eleven). You don't want Mode II even if you could use it. Details are here.

Saturation: +, of course. This gives brighter colors in addition to the boost from Color Mode III.

Hue: 0 (Default). Don't touch this! it will subtly mess around with your colors. Leave it at 0.

After setting this it's critical to save it by selecting " Done" and clicking to the right actively to select OK. If you forget to hit OK it won't remember all these settings!

^ Canon always get a better name than either of those 2 for their P&Ss.

Something like the A650 - and there are slightly cheaper and slightly more expensive models in the same range.

I have an older A620 (few years old now) that we use jus for snapping pics and it works great.

, the canon powershotSD880is or SD990is look interesting ...any NT review on that camera?

Watch out for size vs quality. I have had some pocket cams (The Nikon that is small and slides to reveal the lens) and they are the biggest waste of moneyever. Everything was red eye and all night shots look like crap. It all comes down to the lens and even with little point and shoots, a good small lens goes along way. The Canon SD series are pretty small and good for everyday use. They are super cheap now too. I think I saw a SD1000 go for $150 and they used tosell for $240-$300.

I'd go with the Canon Powershot SDxxx series. Can't go wrong with the powershot line. I have an SD750 and it's an awesome little camera. Don'tuse it much now since i have my XSi but i'll use it here and there when i don't want to lug around my SLR and all the other gear i have.
