My-T, you should get the 40D instead. A few reviewers have commented that the 50D really isn't that much of an improvement over the 40D, andthey found that the 40D still has better high ISO performance. check out the review at www.dpreview.com. They were pretty disappointed with it.

Picked up a PowerShot for my parents, I'll be using it also though...

Best P&S I could find for $100. Lil thing is a beast. I'll post some pics of my D90 gear with it later.

I beg to differ about the 50D performing under low light. Full frame sensors are far superior in low light photography than those with cropped.Also, I recommend getting the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS rather than 24-70 f/2.8L. For one thing, it has IS and second, 24mm may not be wide enough as a walkaroundlens. The 17-55 was made as the best all-around for cropped sensors, while the 24-70 was made for full-sensors. Lastly, I agree with Santi. Reading multiplereviews, it seems as though the 40D is a slightly better performer than the 50D since the 50D's larger resolution exposes a lot of it's problems. Savethe money and get the well-proven 40D. Being a 40D and 17-55 user myself...I guarantee you'll love the combo. Not to make a sales pitch but I'mplanning to sell mine soon. Need the funds for a 24mm f/1.4L.

Finally some pics. I've been busy at work and really have no time to upload/post pics.

This shot was taken while my ship was living Japan. Not sure what the bridge was called but that thing underneath is suppose to be a restaurant.

Here's a shot of the Dock where my ship was moored. Yokohama North Dock. its suppose to be an US Army Base in Japan.

A pano of the Yokohama/Sakarugucho (SP?) Skyline, I had an older picture but the first one that I took looked a little blurry I had to do it again. Not muchediting done, just sharpened the edges and used neat image to take some of the noise out of the pic. I think the shot at 200 ISO under 2.5 secs of exposure. I wanted clear black skies but I guess the clouds in the back gives it a different feel.

another pano (sorry im addicted). This is a 7 picture pano of the Shimbashi/Hibiya Crossing. Just minutes away from the Imperial Garden and Hibiya park. Itook this pano with out a tripiod and it gave the buildings some kind of weird arching effect. I took the pictures under the no flash setting.

I know some of you dont like flower shots...but here are random ones that I took from a garden in Japan.

There's no way I'm believeing the 50D performs better in low light than the 5D...

It appears that Canon has reached the limit of what is sensible, in terms of megapixels on an APS-C sensor. At a pixel density of 4.5 MP/cm² (40D: 3.1 MP/cm², 1Ds MkIII: 2.4 MP/cm²) the lens becomes the limiting factor. Even the sharpest primes at optimal apertures cannot (at least away from the center of the frame) satisfy the 15.1 megapixel sensors hunger for resolution. Considering the disadvantages that come with higher pixel densities such as diffraction issues, increased sensitivity towards camera shake, reduced dynamic range, reduced high ISO performance and the need to store, move and process larger amounts of data, one could be forgiven for coming to the conclusion that at this point the megapixel race should probably stop. One consequence of this is that the 50% increase in pixel count over the 40D results in only a marginal amount of extra detail.

We're by no means saying the 50Ds image quality is bad but it's simply not significantly better than the ten megapixel 40D. In some areas such as dynamic range and high ISO performance it's actually worse and that simply makes you wonder if the EOS 50D could have been an (even) better camera if its sensor had a slightly more moderate resolution.
The EOS 50D has to stand its ground in a highly competitive bracket of the DSLR market. It is currently almost $500 more expensive than the 40D, almost $500 more expensive than the Nikon D90 and for an extra $100 you can bag yourself a Nikon D300. Looking at the specification differences between the EOS 40D and our test candidate it appears you pay quite a premium for the 50D's extra megapixels and as we've found out during this review you don't get an awful lot of extra image quality for your money. The Canon EOS 50D still earns itself our highest reward but considering its price point and our slight concerns about its pixel-packed sensor, it only does so by a whisker.

First "Chapter" and I already like this book. I cant believe I nver actually used the light meter in the viewfinder to take proper exposures. What Iused to do was just snap, check monitor to see if it "looked" over/under exposed, if it was I would adjust and take another shot, repeated until Igot what I liked. I'm an idiot.

... Back to reading!

Happy New Years all ...

So while most of you where partying - I was in the labor room trying to help push .. My 1st baby and I must say it was a wonderful experience ...

I have to say I went in there prepare with a game plan and when the baby was deliver I was lost child - Didn't know what to do or how to snap - Use thecamera like a P&S ..

I had the Canon 10-22 that I just bought in the hospital

- The Canon 17-55 and The Sigma 30 1.4 .. At the end of the day I didn't know what to use orhow to snap like I said .. So i put on the 30 and said screw it - The baby had some complications so they were trying to rush her for further observation .....

So here are a few of the pics I took ..

By the way this was the reason I even bought a camera and picked up the hobby 3 or so weeks ago - Because of my little princess "Izabella" ....

p. s. she was 6lb 12oz - 21inches - 1:26am and contractions startedat 8am

Yeah, congrats. Those pictures are great too. It's always hard to get a picture of them not looking red and wrinkled - and the lighting is never great forobvious reasons.

I quite like these pano's from 'I just got lucky' - I always like a skyline pano - but there is an obvious problem with this one:

You even said yourself that you took it on auto - just with the flash off. That's why you can quite easily see the joins between the pictures - thesoftware has done a pretty good job of smoothing them out but it would be an excellent picture without the joins.

There's nothing wrong with taking the picture on auto - the first one anyway if you're not confident to meter manually - but I would suggest that youthen duplicate the settings in manual mode for the rest of them - that's pretty easy - just look at the date from the first pic and then plug that intomanual mode. Make sure you do ISO and white balance and all that stuff and it makes stitching the pano's much easier.

I' having way too much fun with the Canon...

I'm really considering Returning the D90 and picking up a G10 or SX10 IS, and save $1000. Call me a hypocrite. I think for my needs, a decent P&S isenough.

What the! Get a P&S over a DSLR? Well, it is on the preference of the shooter and if you don't use it to it's full potential, might as well nothave it......

the canon g10 is far from a point n shoot. fully manual settings + raw image capabilities makes it a good alternative if you don't want to being carryingaround a dslr everywhere. the only draw back i can really see is the lack of interchangeable lenses and the iso performance.
