I'm really considering Returning the D90 and picking up a G10 or SX10 IS, and save $1000. Call me a hypocrite. I think for my needs, a decent P&S is enough.

Or you could just sell it

Is the D40x a good camera for a beginner?
Do they still sell in stores? (bay area)
thanks

Something I made today on the D90. Couldn't import the movie as HD for some reason so the resolution is pretty crappy.

I considered that I while back too. But the pictures just aren't the same. DSLR's aren't exactly the most portable cameras, so there's nothingwrong with having a P&S for quick snapshots or days that you don't want to carry the DSLR.

I don't think Pentax lenses are compatible with Canon bodies. If you're on a budget and are looking for a good walkaround lens, I recommend the Tamron17-50 or Sigma 18-50. If you want to spend more, the Canon EF-S 17-55 is the ultimate walkaround lens for cropped sensor bodies.

well im looking for a fisheye lens but im not sure if i was looking in the right place.
i was just on futureshop.com and was in the wide-angles lens section

It won't work. Ditto with Nikon, Olympus, Sony. The only way it would work is if you had a mount adapter, and I'd imagine that's pretty expensive.

What type of photography are you planning to do? I hope you're not using a fisheye for everyday use. I hate re-iterating this statement but I feel the needto say it to everyone who wants a fisheye for its "cool" barrel distortion. If you're gonna photograph skate sessions, sure but otherwise, get azoom lens that you can use for everyday shots. Secondly, Futureshop isn't the place to find a specialty lenslike a fisheye. Check Henry or better yet, ononline photography forums.

skate photos is why im after a fisheye lens actually, but with the Canon EF-S 17-55, would i see much of a differance between that and the kit lens i alreadyhave? considering the lens i have is a 17-55
sorry im very new at all this stuff

just be careful when shopping for lenses - wide angle is not the same as a fisheye!

fisheye lenses are typically in the range of 10-12mm, and are NOT the same as a regular ultra-wide lens at the same focal length. fisheyes are speciallydistorted, while wide-angle are designed to have as LITTLE distortion as possible.

you mean 18-55? For one thing, the EF-S 17-55 has a fixed aperture of 2.8 so it's a lot faster. Secondly it's a lot more well built andgives really sharp images wide open. If you don't know the terms aperture, shutter speed, iso and etc., I suggest you do some introductory reading todigital photography. Play around with you 18-55 kit lens, decide what focal lenght you'd like to use and make a decision on what lens to get from there. Donot get a lens just for the sake of adding stuff to your gear. If you're planning to do nothing but skate photography, the EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye is a goodchoice. Don't expect it to be a lens you could use everywhere you go though. You wouldn't want your family asking you to take a family photo and youshow them a heavily distorted image.

lens, film back, film, and new tripod/head (need new tripod/head cause it weighs something ignorant like 13lbs. w/out lens or back) on the way as well.

Also picked up this for a lil' project and kinda wanted one for a min.

^ Dope. Now what the hell does it do? Is it film only? First thing that came to mind was Elmer Fudd trying to trick Bugs into taking a picture, with a shottyhidden behind.

A view camera. Sweet. How long does it usually take you just to set up everything before you actually take the picture?

And those things are the reason we have tilt-shift lenses, right?

Well to be honest I mostly just got it to make huge and incredibly sharp prints. It shoots 4"x5" sheet film so it's step up from my 2 1/4"square negatives of from my hasselblad that you could get a reasonably large print from but still… I think at some point I'll probably get an8"x10" *Dreams of linhof 8"x10"* But you can essentially do what amounts to bending perspective with a view camera. I've never reallyfully explored what that camera (as I don't have a lens yet) or really any large format camera is capable as far as that goes but I'm sure I will atleast a little bit.

I got it to shoot film on it, but I know of large format digital backs that have like 200megapixels+ but I've never actually seen one either in person oreven for sale. I think it's more a sold by the manufacture kinda thing and generally strikes me as kind of questionable handmade digital equipment made bycompanies no one's ever heard of. If I was going to get a digital back for a film camera I'd get one for my hassy way before any large format camera.

I've only really played view camera once and only took like 3 Polariods so my experience with one is reasonably limited. I mean I know how to operate itbut still I would imagine fully setting it up and composing an image i feel really satisfied with would take little bit but I suppose that's why I have 6cameras at the moment.

But yeah, tilt shift lens and monorail view camera are like 2nd cousins in terms of what their capable of but certainly the same idea when you get to barebones just vastly different capabilities with a couple various different types of cameras/lens in between.

cant remember if i shared these or not... i'm a photography newb so c&c is much appreciated. btw the top one has a border that prolly wont show up onhere
