If there's a Costco around your way, go there and check out a Lowepro Slingshot A200. I bought one myself a few months ago for $67.99 + tax. They go forabout $90 online shipped, I think, so you'll be saving around $20. AND right now there's supposed to be a $10 instant rebate and a $20 mail in rebate. So $67.99 - $10instant - $20 MIR. Just a heads up

Damn, you went with Nikon??? I'm disappointed with the other Canon heads on here for failing to do some convincing. Oh well...good luck with the new gear and happy shooting.
thank you

can't wait to get it and start playing around with it

I'm not the one to give advice as I'm still learning, but you should hit youtube and read up on shutter vs aperture and lighting and when to apply eachone ..

that of course if you don't already know .. no matter how much I read and see I still make stupid simple mistake .. like not setting or leaving my customWB and shotting in Landscape priority when I'm trying to do a portrait and stuff like that .. just called attention to details man ..

^ shoot RAW and you don't have to worry about WB.

Since there's been recent discussions regarding camera bags...here are the two that I use:

Fong, if you can't be bothered having to deal with mail-in-rebates...here's the Slingshot 200 for $57.95. I order from these guys all thetime and they ship QUICK and FREE!

Slingshot 200 AW - AvidMaxOutfitters

Less than $2800 shipped and PPed. Blue dot and less than 10k actuations but DAMN...it just got sold

I've got another one lined up with a sub-mirror fix for the same price but I'm gonna wait and see if he lowers it a little more. If not...then 5D MarkII it is.

As for the camera bag discussion...I have a Tamrac Backpack and IMO if you have multiple lenses its better to carry or have a messenger style bag.

elboricua 6 i think the 1D mark III that you seen was the 1Ds and not the regular 1D. The regular 1D retails for 4500-5000 and can be found cheaper on amazon. As for the 1Ds thats 7500-8000 retail so in that case the 5300 isnt so bad at all.

lol .. stop playing yourself .. lol

but you probably right .. getting something I don't need or even know how to use

On another subject - I was wondering if shooting with a pro camera is that much of a difference than shooting with a n00b cam?

I mean I guess when you get down to crop - but how much of a difference ....

While a pro camera body and high quality lens can get you 'nice' photos...at the end of the day, it's all up to the guy behind the viewfinder.Anyone can have these bodies and lenses as long as they have money, but if they don't know squat about composition, exposure or any of the valuable photoqualities...their 'nice' pics can still look like crap.

Technology has actually been very forgiving to us digital photographers. There's more leeway for mistakes and corrections & alterations can be made onprograms such as Photoshop, Lightroom and etc. While I sometimes find it hard to appreciate the work of some film photographers, you still gotta respect themfor being able to capture and certain images.

Rap do you find yourself when on manual mode hitting the dial to make the braket dead center or do you diviate from what the camera is telling you and go - or+ at anytime?

I find myself most of the time making sure is dead center but I have notice that most of the time is a little to dark ... Glad I shoot raw - but I waswondering what you or anyone else up in here for that matter set their exposures when shutting on manual? or even on Av or Tv?

I've found that cropped bodies like my XT and 40D give darker and slightly under exposed images compared to my 5D. When I first got my 5D I was amazed byhow beautifully exposed my images were when shooting at 0. I don't use aperture or shutter priority because the images produced can sometimes beunpredictable in terms of exposure. I like to have full control of all settings, which is ok because I don't really shoot sports.

so with that said .. if the camera is telling you 0 you most of the time go to the left or the right to get the exposure that you want? Or do you use therecommended exposure setting?

Has Rap Sizzle taken the place of ebayologist as being the photography thread guru?

^^^ I think Rap is just trying to help - since I never seen himself been proclaimed the so called guru - Most of the time he points everyone to his personalopinion or taste and if not he points people to where they can find information ...

For the most part I have seen that from several NTers that post here .. eBay - Santi - Rap - Etc ..

I agree but their swap in dominance is pretty apparent.

However ebay is more critique oriented and has them deep, oldschool(film), artsy, philosophical knowledge, while you can easily find online most of what RapSizzle drops- which i think is more relevant/helpful for NT cuz we have a bunch of nubs here.
