Ouch - I just took this one just to post .....

I'm assuming that's a cropped panorama...

The distortion makes it interesting though. Not every photo has to be a work or of art. I just made the suggestion of posting photos that stand out from yourother shots. I'm sure it would suck if everyone started posting "snap shots."

I think what Rap is saying is that for example these above do not tell anything - the colors don't pop and the picture is not really sharp - so in hencethe photo itself has nothing to offer to the eyes of people ... especially when they are very random .. not to mention the W/B is off as well - if all thesethat I mentioned where corrected and present, i believe even at a stand along you could say nice colors - make my mouth watery or whatever ...

for this one IMO - what was you trying to do? you really don't have enough of the subject for a picture and the fan can't possibly be a subject as itsto blurry so therefore is a distraction - also, if someone that was to see this and know nothing about sneaker - what would they think? probably wth am Ilooking at .. the ceiling fan? you can also apply everything I said in the other (color pop, sharpness, w/b etc)

I'm just stating my personal preference/opinions ... I just started a month ago so don't take what I say as if I know anything about photography - whatI say is what I would be telling myself if I had taken those pictures man .....

don't worry about taking pictures to post - just make sure you take them of interesting subjects and try to correct them as much as possible - especiallywhite balance and if possible sharpness/pop ..

p.s. I love hard criticism - but I'm not sure if you do and I think Rap went hard on you .. but once again I don't know ... BTW, you took down the only1 photo I liked and actually had something good to say about it .... go figure .. lol

Slightly crop at the corners maybe about 30 pix each side - but yeah a pano with the Canon 10-22!

Did it for the distortion as if I would of have step back a few steps I probably could of have fit it all in one shot ..

Also, I know what you mean - I was just saying - a lot of times although I try to find something very interesting or that I personally like - I shoot to post..
tongue.gif
but I do get what you mean and I agree!

P.S. every-time I want to tell you something I get distracted ..

are awesome ..

I specially love the 1st one .. the little birdy looks like its laying down and I never seen one like that unless hurt/dead .. lol .. the bokeh is amazing aswell ..

the squirrel what can I say - "homer" spider squirrel spider squirrel .. lmao - to bad you chopped the tail .. but regardless awesome picture andawesome bokeh

Thanks for the comments. I don't really care about "hard criticism". They are just words that i can use to take better shots.

And do you mean this one?

yeah that one .. why did you crop it .. now its not a good looks but nevertheless it made me hungry!

i know the BG was undesirable but if it wasn't a crop like this just ruined the picture ..

take the one you posted down and just put the original ..

you always want to try and crop for composition in this case you crop super tight and all you really can make out is the cookie making everything else adistraction .. you had some bokeh on that picture therefore still making the cookie the main subject and everything that is a distraction not a distractionbecause it was blur enough where people wouldn't care .. if that make sense ..

once again .. this could be the blind leading the blind as I don't know jack about photography .. so I'm just letting you know my personal preferencewhen it comes to stuff that I have mentioned!

Ya can go Hard on me now - Criticism is more than welcome, actually encourage .. Let me know what you all think and what I can do to improve and if youlike/dislike any ..

I'm going to be picking mine up this week. Can someone please explain the the difference between the F1.4 and F1.8. Will the F1.4 make ahuge difference in clarity/sharpness? Or does it only really make a difference in different lighting conditions?

Thanks,

The rule of thirds is wildly antiquated rule of thumb that contemporarily is considered quite basic/rudimentary.

I was struggling to come up with analogy and maybe this crazy but…

It's like making macaroni and cheese is as a finished meal is good/well composed photograph. You could buy easy mac, or just the regular box, or justliterally make it from scratch. The rule of thirds is like easy mac, it's a simple solution that gets you the macaroni and cheese but that doesn't meanit's the best solution as far as composition.

I center frame subjects all day and I'm about to go to photography graduate school at an Ivy so clearly when viewing my portfolio they didn't seem tomind and that's not some cakewalk portfolio review…

Yeah theres not a HUGE difference between both lenses, but the 1.4 is definitely clearer and sharper at almost every aperture. And it is certainlybetter in low-light situations than the 1.8

Congrats on the Ivy acceptance - Hope everything goes well there ..

I'm not an expert, I said I think most people will say thirds - I can care less the rule as I shoot for myself and family - what anyone mightconsider garbage I might consider priceless and that's the wonderful thing about photography or any creative way of self expression ..

Now if it was for money - they someones opinion will matter ...

didn't get accepted just yet, but it's looking good for a number of reasons, but appreciate that. Yeah my only point was well composed images canfunction in a number of ways. I think of photographs much like any other art form. Symmetry and asymmetry are both valid forms of composition. Much likepaintings, there are innumerable methods compositionally to aesthetic interest.

Trust me, don't bring up the rule of thirds with ebay.

I tried to call him out on that with his first sneaker collector portfolio.

It really is a basic technique. Your framing really just depends on the subject/event/whatever.
