Filters for a wedding???

Unless both the bride and the groom are photographers, you should look for something both of them could use. If you insist on getting them/her photography equipment, get a 17-55 f/2.8 lens. I'm sure they...ehem...I mean her...will love it.

lol no no, its OUR wedding. He is buying me a wedding present and I am buying him a wedding present

^ oh, my bad. That makes a lot more sense then. I forgot you were a girl

. If you wanna get him a filter...get B+W 010 MRC.

This filter speak reminds me of a Camera shop associate telling some dude he could not use cheap filters on his lens.He told him they had to be the $100 Nikon filters.

What lenses did the guy need the filters for? While the sales dude is wrong for saying that he COULD NOT, he's partially correct especially ifyou paid $1000+ for a lens (assuming that's what he has), why would you cheapen out and get a $7 filter? Besides, the guy should have done research beforewalking in straight to the shop. That's pretty dumb on his part.

^ It was nothing special. A Nikkor zoom lens, either a 55-200 VR or the 70-300 VR. He basically paid almost half the cost of the lens in filters alone.

Anyways, your picture is tilted - the sky looks really good, but by cropping it and giving nothing but the sky really to look at - well it's not a good look .. also the original picture I like better, but I find the road to clash with the view and to be distracting -- if I was you I would of have stepped over the rails and aimed a little lower to have less sky and a little more land - it would of have even out a better and if anything focus on the middle of the picture - the mounting ridge that separate both views of the cities ... that would of have been a better composed picture IMO.. but I'm not an expert - that;'s just stuff I would of have done ...

BTW Kick, I might be going to the Aquarium this weekend (in Coney) - I'll let you know if my girl and I makes plans instead ...

I say the same thing...what I've learned since I started taking pictures/getting into photography is that, sometime you have to go some where youre notsuppose to or take pictures of things that you arent suppose to go...hence me sneaking into a geisha photoshoot and getting kicked out.

or sneaking into a hotel so I can get a better shot of the shibuya crossing in japan.

If that's a Minolta Maxxum AF 50mm F1.7 lens on that camera, then you've got yourself an excellent prime lens. I have one and it rarely leaves my SonyA300 when I am indoors.

i swear that there wasnt anymore room over the rail. it looks like there is somewhere to go, but its just a drop off into a canyon.

i did take your advice today and did some shooting off the freeway. thanks to your advice, i had my first encounter with law enforcement. haha. fortunately,CHP was really cool about everything.

I took a few pictures today that I will post over this couple of days .. 1st the single pic then the HDR as I need to tone map them and work them ..

C&C are always welcome and encourage - even if you think they suck, I would not mind hearing why .. thanks and I hope ya enjoy ..

I'm going to put the HDR's tomorrow ..

^ Love the first one, since you've managed to capture the plane's silhouette and the sunlight is a lot more easy on the eye unlike the 2nd shot. Oh,and I'm not sure what post-processing work you did on the 3rd one...but IT contains the exif data!!!

One thing you could have attempted to do (well...this is stretching it quite a bit), is capture the plane right in front of the sun. I can understand that thiswould be difficult especially if you don't have access to higher ground to achieve the angle...but it would make for a really dope shot.

That's crazy because I just imported them from LR to CS4 to make adjustment and saved them all the same way ...

Also, I was trying to get the shot you said and when the sun was higher (I also have those pictures which Iwill post later) but when the plane got in front ofthe sun the meter went all crazy and the focus went wacky and I couldn't get a good photo - luckily I like about 3 minutes way from this place and theRonald Regan Airport is there so whenever I want I cant go and retry this .. I didn't even know the sunset was visible until today and it was my very 1stone ....

BTW, thanks on the comments ... I'll let you know my favorite from them three and 1 it's not it ..

What lenses do you have and how much are you willing to spend on a filter? Remember, you get what you pay for. I recommend B+W UV 010 MRC. I useda cheap Canon UV Haze filter back in my Rebel XT days and they were horrible. Also, stay away from those Sunpak filters found at BestBuy.

Photography message board? POTN if you're a Canon user (you might end up getting pissed if you're a Nikon user). Google it. While there are a lot ofbeginners that go join the board, I suggest reading posts and doing research rather than asking every little tidbit. There's almost always an answer toyour question on an existing thread. I'm more than happy to answer them here because NT isn't a dedicated photography forum. I've learned a lotfrom POTN without having to post every question I have.

As for your photos, watch your white balance. Use a cooler temperature. Oh and consider investing in a cheap 50mm f/1.8 prime. It will help you isolate yoursubject from the background...case in point, the tree bark in your first shot.

I don't know any forums for nikon. I also got a slr very recently and I love it. It seems that in your pics you aren't really focusing on anything. It's difficult when you first start out, i'm kinda in the same situation your in.
