Hmm, i was considering this too. How come?

From the reviews I have read about people that have this lens .. They swear by it for the extreme sharpness, vivid color, minute barrel distortion ad how goodit is wide open ... i don't have it but i have seen some pictures and they have been really good ... i haven't hear any reviews like that for thetokina you mentioned earlier ..

Nikon

I'm waiting till PMA to make my decision though. Who knows, Canon might come out with something half decent. teehee.

The first shot with the more vivid background is probably EXACTLY what I would have done. I like the way the contrast came out between the darker"gloomy" subject, if you will, against the bright blue sky. Makes for an intriguing shot. On the next edit you did, I definitely like the one withoutnoise better. It shows a strong presence of cyan, almost as if it's a cooling filter. I like it better than the original for sure.

Daniel: I shoot with a Nikon D40X and I love it. I think Nikon makes great straightforward beginner level cameras. Not to say that Canon doesn't, but I owna film SLR Canon Rebel G and it's just not as straightforward. You'd have to know a little bit about shooting in Manual before you could really use it.I would say to go to a Mom & Pop store (because they're usually nicer) and ask if you can play with their floor samples a little bit. Most likelythey'll hook you up with an SD card and the kit lens and let you shoot with both for a few minutes inside the store.

But seriously, Nikon. Just kidding.

I know the topic of HDR's was a couple of pages back...but my internetz has been really slow (Being deployed FTL).

here's my first attempt, i did what kdwallace suggested...one raw image, then i used -2, 0, and +2 EV adjustments...then I used photomatrix 3.0 to blendthe images and came out with this. I got a couple more but it takes 20 minutes to upload a damn picture. I will post them when i get to japan.

C&C?

BTW this was taken with a Nikon D40.

elbroicua6, good capture on pic #3. thats the one with the line going into the chamber. just a little noisy on the bottom left

i just got lucky, those are some crazy colors coming out of that picture. if there was a way to some how contrast the bridge more so that it pops out. rightnow, all those colors kind of blend together so much that its hard to distinguish anything.

im heading to the beach for the weekend, so hopefully i'll come back with some good stuff.

See that's what I don't do - making 3 exposures from one raw file.

I just use the raw file straight into photomatix and then go straight to tonemapping - gives nice subtle effects.

No offense but I don't like that picture - just OD and you get artefacts where the contrast changes.

Send me the original raw file if you want me to show you what I would have done.

i just got lucky --I believe this is exactly what KD hates ...

not because you did it with one so much but because it just dont look natural ..

I also think HDRs are better with 3 - 7 exposures .. doing it from 1 RAW file for the most part do not capture the range that diffferent exposures would .. Itmight look nice to some but to others like Kdwallace they dont .. lets see wht he says when he gets here ..

lol .. he already wrote 6 minutes before me .. lmao .. being on the road and trying to type FTL ....

KDWALLACE RIP ME A NEW ONE >> I POSTED A FEW - COME ON!

He uses ONE RAW file. I tried it with the G10 on Photomatix.. the "Pseudo" HDR or whatever its called. Came out "mehh"

^ No it's cool...its my first attempt. I wanted to know if I did it right or not.

kdwallace...so you can drop 1 raw file into photomatrix? what i did was open the raw file with CS3, change the EV settings and made 3 different jpegs. thatsproabably where I went wrong.
frown.gif
I tried loading one raw file into photomatrix, but it wont let me process through. I also sent you a pm.

I also used Neat Image to remove some of the noise, using 3 different jpegs in photomatrix made it too noisy so I used neat image at 80% to take the noise out.

- rizobs, i'll try that and I will post it again to see that I come out with. thanks for the C&C...I will try it again.

oh...and i saw this on craigslist..good deal?

Although I'm a Nikon guy I would choose that Canon - there's no reason to choose the D50 except for the working with some lenses part - inpretty well every other aspect even the D40 is better.

If you want a Nikon that will work with old lenses the new D90 would be awesome - about $300 more expensive but it's a great camera.

Yeah, a lot of people don't know that.

I've had really bad results trying to make 3 (or more) files from one raw - I don't think you can go more than about 0.5ev without screwing up theimage - raw can help something things but I don't agree with the people who say you can fix badly under or over exposed images. I've had much betterresults when actually taking 3 (or more) exposures and then combining those - although you then get the problem of things moving - even leaves on trees orclouds can screw a picture up - and it's always windy around here.

So just open the image in photomatix and use that one image - if you think about it it makes sense. All the information is there in the raw file and it canjust use the extra hidden information to bring out extra details.

got lucky photomatix does give u an option to make hdr from single exposure .. need to look into it .. also it does increase the noise something serioushowever the more files u give it to work with u might also want to drop them in raw phormat or u can merge them in cs3 if it has the option n then tonemapp inphotomatix ..

santi u recommending nikon but shooting with canon .. lol
