Don't get that. You can buy the D40 kit with the 18-55mm Brand new for $400.

Then, just wait a lil bit, shoot with the kit lens, save some money, and get the AF-S 35mm f/1.8 that will AF with the D40.

mjbetch just cause u set ur aperture to f22 doesnt mean squad ... im certain it has more to do with exposure .. i get starts all the time with longer exposures ... then again im using the 17-55 and canon 10-22 for most of them n sometime the sig 30 1.4 .. also be carefull with such a high aperture .. its probably not going to be sharp or should i say as sharp as a bigger aperture ...
what? what are you talking about? lol

all i'm saying is that damn, that's a pretty clear shot for 3 seconds hand-held at night

It wasn't handheld. I had it on a barrier post....and even at that, it wasn't that sharp. i had to use the sharpen tool a bit to make it look a little better.

ohhhh sorry. I WAS ABOUT TO SAY! lol. have you tried the unsharp mask? that is one of the best features ever in life. haha

I'm going to feel stupid for asking this, but what does unsharpen mask do? I'm not to into editing on my computer, although I am trying to learn.

i read it in one of the books. it helps sharpen your overall picture.

the top is original, bottom is unsharp masked to 158.

It adds contrast and sharpens the image depending on your settings. I do it twice for most of my shots. One for sharpening, one for contrast.

Sharpening:

Amount: 70-90 (depending on how it looks)
Radius: 0.8

Contrast:

Amount: 20-30
Radius: 60-80

Nevermind, I was a little tired .. All I was trying to tell you was that sometimes that the smallest and the largest aperture aren't always the sharpest ..but you probably already knew that!

Do you have a RAW editing program?

When you open your Raw you can pretty much adjust everything from WB to Sharpness .. As is a RAW image and tweaking is needed!

I'm not sure if Elements support RAW I don't think so - Neither does PS CS4 unless is to merge or stitch. I think you need ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) toopen and tweak them or Adobe LR and from there I think you can export them as jpg, tiff or straight to PS ..

of course there are other programs and I'm sure that one of the disk your camera came with have some kind of software for it ...
