Official Photography Thread: Vol. ICan'tFindTheLastOne

^^ true

make sure you get a 10 because once you start getting on the 15 and above on a crop camera the distortion will not be as much ..

I'm currently looking for a 10 or even 4.5 sig fisheye ..

The Tokina, if I'm thinking of the right one, is the 11-16mm f/2.8 which will run you about $550-$700 depending on seller, location, and condition. From my understanding, the Tokina doesn't provide the "fisheye" look that you're probably looking for. It seems that most tend to use it as a wide angle lens. The Nikon one is the 10.5mm f/2.8 which will run you anywhere from $500-$700. Price depends on same conditions as above. With the D70 I don't believe you need a DX lens, but the Nikon Nikkor one is a DX lens.
you dont need a DX lens with the D70, but they work perfectly fine. It's on my D50 and i love it. trust me bro you won't be upset with the 10.5 and you can find it used a lot of places for $450
In response to the fisheye, it is a dope lens but after using it for a few, it does have its advantages and disadvantages. First if you are usedto shooting relatively far away from your subject matter, prepare to get used to invading people's space or at least finding yourself running closer toshoot thins. Probably the only thing I am not used to since I always had a zoom lens or with my 50mm prime, had to somewhat stand farther away then closer. Ifind it cool to shoot in small shootings spaces but there is rarely the case for me as I am always in the open. I think that is where the Tokina lens might bemore usful since it has a zoom but I am not even sure if that zoom is worth calling it a zoom lens. As far as just distrotion, the 10.5mm is dope and don'teven consider the 16mm. It is a dope lens and totally recommend it but you should only use it as a secondary lens though.

I just shot this last night (still don't like half of the things I shoot on the D90. The pic looks blurry) and luckily when trying to capture somethinglike a city skyline, I didn't have to walk that far away.

hooray for circular polarizer

i got it for my 52mm thread lenses. my 50mm and my 18-55 kit. woot.

Wow... that difference with the filter is pretty intense.

On another note...

I went to my local Circuit City yesterday and they were in fact selling the G10 for $350.

They had about 30 of them left, so I'm assuming the price is going to drop again.

Hopefully the drop will come soon.

I don't know how to explain it, but yes - I believe you loose a stop with it so at night you have to take it off in poor conditions or crank the ISO -nothing more to it ...\

mjbetch have you shoot anything with the lens on? Is it the slim version? I hear that the regular one tend to give you a lot of vignette on UWAand FE ..

i always thought you had to twist the filter or something on polarizers to get the effect you want on the subject? or is this something COMPLETELY different??

The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is not a fish eye lens...its a UWA. Their fisheye lens is the 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5. I haven't seen anyone or seenactual pictures of taken with this lens so I cant tell you if its any good or not. you're best bet would be checking flickr and just searching by the typeof lens.

Sigma also has a couple of fisheye lenses 8mm f/3.5, the 15mm f/2.8 and the 4.5mm f/2.8 all of these should work with a Nikons with a DX sensor. DX lensmeans it works well with camera's with a DX sensor...and when used with a full frame camera...you would get a black border around your pictures.

yes...the cicrular polarizers are the ones that you can twist and adjust.

Where'd you cop and how much? Brand?
same question... where and how much? thanks in advance

my girl got it for me for valentines day. i wanted the $60 one but i got the $20 instead haha. it's a hoya. it's the regular one and not the HMC. shegot it from adorama via amazom.com

yeah this is the one that you twist to get a certain effect.

i got it for my 50mm and 18-55. you dont have to have one for each if you're trying to save money. although it's a good idea to have multiple, i'mpoor.

i just screw it off just like any other filter and reattatch when needed.

you twist it to how much "filtering" you want. like how sever the effect is

show's some of the different degrees of polarization. also you have to be a certain angle from the sun.

PP isn't working very well right now, but you can check out the other lenses on there too.

via pixel-peeper.com (awesome website for people looking for lenses, by the way)

ok well I have never had any photography experience in the past but I want to get into it because I've always loved it. with that being said what do youguys think of this pic..sorry for the bad quality..came from my iphone and I did some editing on photobucket.

^^^^I mean cool with all the editing but the end result it is a camera phone pic. Not clowning but it is hard to sell those kind of pics as photography pics. But we have all been there whether with some old 3.2 point and shoots but best thing to do is to invest in a quality camera. I think people were saying it inother posts but Circuit City has a lot of deals right now.

That's a cool way to show the effect.

Yes, you do - light becomes polarized when it hits a surface (it's just physics) - that's why a polarizer makes a huge difference to reflections fromwater.

A polarizer is basically a series of very thin lines (thinner than the wavelength of visible light) in the lens - it's not tinted to give it the greycolor. So if you think of light as a series of waves (that are all oscillating in random directions) only those waves that are parallel (or nearly parallel) tothe lines can get through - so rotating the lens lets different parts of the wave through so the image looks different. As I said before when light hits asurface the waves all reflect lined up the same way - hence the extreme effect on the reflections.

So wait...the filter just brings the color out more? Or is there more to it?

Sort of - it enhances certain things like sky and water by reducing haze and reflections.

Not quite - as I tried to explain (easier to show you) any polarizer needs to be oriented the right way for best results - if you have polarized sunglasses try tilting them on the side and looking at reflective surfaces and you'll see the difference.

A circular polarizer is a special type that lets modern camera meters still work - if you used a linear polarizer then your metering would be all off.

I'll post a pic of the camera tonight, looks good shape, with the stock lens 18-55 without IS, I wantedthe cheapest dslr to learn the basics from scratch. So far blows my mind from my SD1000

. I plan on murdering these 2 lenses for at least a year before I purchaseanother. I might sign up for some classes at B&H photo.

Today I visited the Stockholm Museum of Modern art (Moderna Museet) and the Andreas Gursky exhibition. It was insane!

Anyone familiar with his art? I know ebay mentioned him before.
